    We’re hiring for a Research Associate Phenotyping – Hoogekraal

In this role, you will use your research/agricultural experience to serve as a team member in the Phenotyping team to conduct planning, planting, data collection and harvesting of Research phenotyping activities for Maize in the West of South Africa

    You Will Be Part of Growing Team

    • Research and Development

    Your Challenge:

    • Lead experiment setup and execution of research maize drought and yield trials, including prioritizing tasks, driving efficiency, and maintaining data quality.
    • Research trial operations would include experiment management, seed setup, planting, plot maintenance, data collection, harvest, and data analysis.
    • Ability to operate equipment for trial execution. This includes tractors, combines, planters, drones, sprayers, forklifts, tillage implements, seed processing and irrigation equipment.
    • Good agronomy practices and the ability to distinguish different abiotic and biotic stresses in the field.
    • Pesticide application and technical knowledge on pest identification and appropriate corrective action.
    • Phenotyping and data collection, data and image analyses, and data quality assurance and integrity.
    • Manage and execute selected safety programs, active contributions to site safety, and ensure others are working safely.
    • Follow specific protocols to collect, analyze and distribute large volumes of data.
    • Collaborate with experiment managers to summarize the results of experiments, communicate data quality concerns, and recommend actions.
    • Effectively communicate with farmers, coworkers, key customers and management.
    • The success of the research program may require weekend work and overtime during critical planting, harvest, spraying and irrigation periods.
    • Manage and direct the work of temporary and seasonal employees.
    • Contribute to maintaining a respectful work environment.
    • Provide support for other research projects as assigned.
    • Potential future opportunity to work with UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) data collection activities.

    Key Stakeholders and Interactions:

    • Serve as a team member in the Western Phenotyping team

    Location:

    • Potchefstroom – Hoogekraal Research Farm (Reporting station)

    Note: The location where the work will be performed is in Northern Cape province, Marydale.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or Diploma in scientific related field or 5 years industry related experience required
    • Strong background in agronomy
    • Proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and build consensus
    • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills are required for fostering teamwork, enhancing a good working environment, and effectively developing strong working relationships with a diverse group of people
    • Ability to supervise and prioritize multiple tasks is critical
    • Extensive knowledge of drought stress management site
    • Extensive knowledge of irrigation systems, probe management and weather station systems
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
    • Results Driven: Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem-solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

    Quality Assurance Specialist

    We’re hiring for Quality Assurance Specialist, Kroonstad SPSC, AME

    You will be responsible for :

    Managing Quality Assurance activities to ensure that customer requirements are fulfilled through the implementation and sustainability of the Quality Assurance programs. Continuous improvement of the programs to improve customer satisfaction and overall customer experience.

    You Will Be Part of Growing Team
    Kroonstad SPSC plants supplies Sunflower, Wheat, forage crops and soybean hybrids seed to customers in the AME region. As the Quality Assurance Specialist at the Kroonstad plant, you will play an important role to meet the quality requirements of Corteva’s customers.

    Your Challenge:

    • Acts as the “lead” internal site-specific auditor for Quality Schedules and participates in quality audits to verify proper cleaning procedures, effective use of checklists and records which are designed to improve and sustain a high level of quality assurance. This includes calibration logs, cleanout checklists, sampling procedures, product run records, bagging weight checks, sample submission etc. assists to ensure that action items are documented in the approved system and follows up to ensure that action items are effectively closed on time. Analyzes trends from site audits and monitors findings from internal audits.
    • Leads planning and execution of the document management system to ensure that documents are maintained and efficiently organized. Ensures that reviews and approvals are conducted on time and that documents are published and effectively communicated using the approved system.
    • Manages the quality critical equipment register to ensure adherence to global calibration and verification specifications applicable to critical equipment identified in the process.
    • Responsible for reporting quality metrics including incidents with analysis and improvements identified and implemented. Complies data to publish the monthly Quality dashboard.
    • Manages the plant self-assessment program for Quality and Common Management policies.
    • Manages the customer complaints that are raised for the plant through investigations, identification and closure of corrective actions and communication.
    • Manages the Action Request system following up on investigations and closure of actions.
    • Leads the plant management reviews and evaluates effectiveness of the quality management system.
    • Provides support and direction to the warehouse for the implementation and sustainability of the Quality Assurance programs.
    • In partnership with operations develops the plant Quality training program. Provides identified training at the locations for quality related procedures.
    • Provides directions and support for the Kroonstad warehouse in the implementation and sustainability of the Quality Assurance programs.

    Key Stakeholders and Interactions:

    • As Quality Assurance Specialist at Kroonstad SPSC, the incumbent will report to the AME Regional Quality Leader.
    • Key Stakeholders: Operations and Supply Chain.
    • Close Interaction with Regional Quality team members, Kroonstad operations and Warehouse teams and commercial teams.

    Qualifications

    • Degree or diploma in Operations or Quality management.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in seed industry in production related operations will be an advantage.
    • Proficiency in Office Software with a strong aptitude in PowerPoint and Excel
    • Ability to interpret and analyze data sets using Statistical tools.
    • Proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and build consensus.
    • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills are required to develop strong working relationships across various functions to enhance teamwork and a good working environment.
