    Unit Manager Engineering

    Job description

    Job Description:

    Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants who will be responsible for the co-ordination of the trackless fleet and maintenance of all underground trackless equipment according to sound engineering practices and equipment specifications including adherence to the Trackless Mobile Machinery COP.

    Tasks and Key Responsibilities:

    • Over-inspect subordinates in their daily activities to ensure maintenance according to organizational standards
    • Co-ordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to Production parameters
    • Communicate equipment information and changes to relevant stakeholders to minimize Production delays
    • Analyse equipment efficiencies to recommend or implement improvements and changes to maximize equipment utilization
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of the process to ensure operational optimization
    • Ensure the execution of scheduled and non-scheduled mechanical and electrical repairs and installation work as required
    • Plan activities in accordance with production, breakdowns, maintenance schedules and allocate/ source resources as required
    • Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, budget compliance and spares availability
    • Communicate with clients and supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performance and availability of equipment
    • Work according to the Mine’s Code of Practice and report any non-conformances
    • Active participation to ensure adherence to Mine Health and Safety regulations and Environmental procedures, Company policies and procedures and personal and co-workers adherence to the Company’s safety, health and environmental objectives

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Be in possession of a relevant Engineering Degree or Diploma (Mechanical or Electrical with a Government Certificate of competency - GCC)
    • Have 3 years’ essential experience post GCC as a Production Engineer in Trackless Engineering (i.e. Drill Rigs, LHDs, Dump Trucks, etc.)
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test
    • Be computer literate and competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Have relevant knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996)
    • Have relevant and essential knowledge of Planned Maintenance, HR and stores systems
    • Be in possession of a Valid Drivers’ License (EB/08)
    • Maintenance, planning and control methodologies and implementation thereof
    • Demonstrate the ability to assess work team requirements
    • Establish training needs and implement program for development
    • Pass Assessment - Test will be done on Mine
    • Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English
    • Strong leadership capability and ability to manage teams

    Unit Manager Mining

    Job description

    The appointee should:

    • Be in possession of a Matric / Grade 12 Qualification or Equivalent
    • Be in possession of a Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency
    • Have at least 5 years’ appropriate managerial experience in a trackless mining environment
    • Have 3 years experience in Backfill
    • Have knowledge of relevant legislation in respect of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test

    Advantageous:

    • Be in possession of a Diploma / Degree in Mining
    • Be in possession of a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency
    • Have excellent achievements in safety, production, cost control and cost saving initiatives

    Tasks and Key Responsibilities:

    Achieve Business / Operational results which include:

    • Provide technical support to Operation Managers at South Deep
    • Ensure targets for Business Unit Performances are met
    • Ensure Financial Performance KPI’s are met
    • Provide support to operations to ensure Production and Efficiency Targets are met
    • Ensure Risk / Health, Safety & Environmental Targets are met
    • Manage various contractors on a daily basis as may be mandated from time to time

    Unit Manager Business Optimisation

    Job description

    Primary Job Purpose:

    Identification and scoping of Mining and Engineering programmes and projects for pilot investigations and/or full commissioning

    The appointee must:

    • Be in possession of a Bachelors Mining Engineering Degree
    • Be in possession of a Mine Manager Certificate of Competency
    • Have at least 10 years’ experience in mining
    • Have at least 3 years’ experience in mechanised mining in a managerial position
    • Have experience in several mining methods ie: long hole mining cut and fill and massive mining. Development and ultra-deep support systems
    • Have a proven track record of continues improvements and process followed
    • Have a demonstrated track record of delivery in a line management role;
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.

    Advantageous:

    • ECSA registration as a professional engineer
    • Project Management or business management knowledge and experience
    • Extraction metallurgy qualification
    • Explosive Engineering knowledge
    • Surface Rock breaking certification
    • Fleet management experience and optimisation

    • Operational – Programme objective and financial
    • Identify key projects that will improve process and save cost
    • Complete projects within agreed programme requirements
    • Manage scope changes and variations
    • Change management of business processes
    • Monitor programme to identify opportunities to improve or reduce cycle time
    • Evaluate and verify operational systems capital proposals relevant to South Deep
    • Recommend budget requirements and provide forecasts
    • Assist with new ideas to reduce operational cost

    • Ensure that systems meets required and agreed design specifications
    • Ensure that all contractors and service providers meet the relevant safety requirements, standards and codes of practice as set by South Deep
    • Ensure that infrastructure, design, installation and commissioning is according to the required design code
    • Ensure that all designs are signed off by the stakeholders

    • Assist lead in project feasibility and scoping studies
    • Ensure alignment of project strategies with South Deep long-term vision
