    Resident Engineer

    Key Performance Areas

    • Overall direction of and administration of the construction contract and site staff in accordance with thenrequirements of the respective contracts.
    • Management of the construction package in accordance with the contract
    • Receive and check for compliance with contract requirements, all performance bonds, insurance certificates and policies and guarantees.
    • Assist with obtaining required permits and related documentation necessary for the construction works.
    • Coordinate compliance of Contracts with the team of Contract Participation Goal facilitators etc.
    • Monitors the Contractor’s progress of projects on site and keeps in contact with the Senior Resident Engineer(SRE)
    • Refers significant queries on design or engineering matters to the Design Engineer together with approval of materials and alternative design proposals as required
    • Ensures that design specifications or other problems that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the Design Engineer
    • Verifies that the Contractor and his/her staff understand the obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Assists with Environmental Management of the Contractor’s work
    • Liaises with the relevant service providers to co-ordinate the alteration or relocation of their services
    • Liaise with Health and Safety Agent, Social and Gender Specialist and Social and Environmental Specialists with regard to social, gender, environmental, health and safety plans, monitoring and reporting requirements
    • Review and approve monthly payment Certificates.
    • Agrees measurement of quantities with the Contractor
    • Identify implementation/completion risks, program budget risks and developing risk management tools to avoid, mitigate and manage such risks.
    • Review and evaluate claims and variations received from the contractor in conjunction with the SRE
    • Maintain a daily site diary
    • Ensure consistent management of social and technical concerns
    • Regularly reviews outputs from Assistant Resident Engineer to ensure accurate capturing / recording of relevant contractual information
    • Monitors progress as per approved construction programme and negotiates rectification of delays and work not scheduled
    • Maintains a costing system to monitor costs to date and the project final contract value
    • Prepares Variation Orders for approval by the Employers Agent and Employer
    • Assist the SRE with the preparation of a list of outstanding works for the progression to Completion Certificate and issue to all concerned
    • Arranges the completion of “as built” drawings and Construction Reports
    • Examine and measure excavations, consent to work being covered up and instruct the Contractor to uncover work and search for defects
    • Require the Contractor to repair and make good any damage or physical loss
    • Approval of practical and final Completion Certificates
    • Collate the submission of all reports, including the inception report and all subsequent progress reports, practical completion reports and final handovers and close out reports
    • Requests Accident Reports
    • Requests quotations for material
    • Instructs the Contractor to have a qualified Site Agent to assist in or make measurements, and to furnish particulars
    • Request and record facts and circumstances relevant to a claim
    • Witnesses all factual circumstances which have bearing on claims for extension of time
    • Manage all on site quality and administration requirements

    • Tertiary qualification (BScEng or equivalent)
    • Professionally registered with ECSA as a PrEng
    • Professionally registered with SACPCMP as a PrCPM an advantage

    Experience:

    • 25+ years’ experience on major civil construction
      projects
    • Experience managing large multi-disciplinary projects

    Assistant Resident Engineer

    Key Performance Areas

    • Monitor the Contractors’ progress of projects on site
    • Refer significant queries on design/engineering matters to the Resident Engineer (RE)
    • Ensure that the design specs/other problems that may have relevance to future designs are bought to the attention of the RE
    • Apply relevant and applicable clauses of Conditions of Contract to the project
    • Liaise with the Contractor’s Site Agent with regard to all aspects of the work
    • Assist the RE in communicating with the public via the Community Liaison Officer and report to the Engineer when necessary
    • Assist the RE in attending and/or chairing formal site meetings with the Contractor and Client
    • Maintain complete records of all construction supervision and progress reports, technical records (including geotechnical test results) and Site Instructions and collect and maintain records of all other appropriate site information such as weather, labour etc.
    • Coordinate updating of the construction drawings, preparation of new drawings by the Lead Design Engineer if necessary and ensure timely distribution of the drawings to the Contractors and the Consultant’s supervision staff.
    • Assist the Survey and Quantity Surveyor or Cost Engineer to ensure that all survey work required for measurement checking is timeously carried out
    • Oversee the production of “as-built” drawings by the CAD Technician
    • Coordinate the production of progress reports, financial reviews, cash flow forecasts, special reports (including the commission tests and geotechnical reports) and contractual certifications, as required by the RE
    • Assist the RE with Environmental Management of the Contractor’s work
    • Coordinate and review weekly and monthly reports generated by the Employer’s Environmental Representative and the
    • Health and Safety Officer and assist with correspondence to the Contractor to address non-compliance issues
    • Line function manager for the Employer’s Environmental Representative, Surveyor, Engineering Geologist
    • Coordinate with the Chief Design Engineers to ensure timely distribution of construction drawings to Contractors and supervision staff
    • Assist the construction AREs in the interpretation of the Contract and the handling of variations, claims etc.

    Draughts Person: Civil

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Creating detailed technical drawings, such as plans, elevations, and sections, using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
    • Interpreting engineering and architectural drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to create accurate drawings.
    • Reviewing and revising drawings and plans based on feedback from project teams, engineers, or architects.
    • Collaborating with project teams, engineers, or architects to ensure that technical drawings meet project requirements and specifications.
    • Creating and maintaining drawing libraries and databases, ensuring that all drawings are properly filed and organized.
    • Conducting quality control checks on drawings and plans to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Preparing bill of quantities and material lists for construction or manufacturing projects.
    • Participating in design review meetings and providing technical support and guidance to project teams.
    • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
    • Complete geotechnical drawings such as Boreholes, Test pits, Importing/ Exporting data from (Google Earth Pro) and creating geophysical profiles.

    Requirements

    Job Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant degree or certificate in drafting.

    Experience:

    • At least 5 years’ experience as a draughts person.
    • Experienced in drafting standards, as well as familiarity with engineering and architectural drawings and specifications.
    • Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools including ACAD, Civil 3d and Revit is required.
