    Chief Hv Network Control Officer

    Job Purpose    
    Applies operations co-ordination and technical understanding of electrical network control by planning the personnel resourcing requirements and monitoring processes for the operations; recommending changes to provisions, operating procedures and instructions and evaluating the status of electricity supply and making determinations referring to load flow management principles during outages or peak demand/supply periods.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Applies operations control knowledge to contribute to the review or development of a range of aspects related to the shift management resourcing and work programming plans.
    • Mentors, coaches and evaluates personnel in relation to the diagnostic and interpretative applications involved with Electricity Network Control applications and controls performance and conduct of shift personnel.
    • Applies interpretative and evaluative principles and techniques to monitor the electricity supply and status and/or outgoing circuits at substations in the high voltage range.
    • Maintains safety levels and continuity of supply during technical and operational works on the electrical system or commissioning of new plant.
    • Applies understanding of electricity distribution principles and standards to address major network disruptions with high impact on essential services and major customers on the grid.
    • Conducts investigations and communicates information on the technical applications, procedures and performance relating to the electrical network.
    • Participates in the performance analysis process in relation to modifications or introduction of new equipment into the network.
    • Disseminates technical information in relation to the continuity of supply and planned outages.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Must be a qualified Electrician who has served an apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labour or be a qualified Electrician with a Trade Test Certificate recognized by the Department of Employment and Labour.
    • Must be in possession of a NTC4 or NCV4 certificate in Electrical Engineering registered with the Department of Education.
    • Be an authorised or have been in the past 24 months an authorised High Voltage (HV) Network Controller.
    • Accredited First Aid Certificate holder or obtain one within six months of appointment.
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 5 years relevant experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution environment and a minimum of 3 years as an Authorised High Voltage Network Controller.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
    • 6 years relevant experience in a Control Room environment in the electricity transmission and distribution industry.

    Chief Technologist (Test)

    Special Conditions    

    • 40 hours, 5-day week.
    • Incumbents must be prepared to work overtime when required.
    • Protective clothing: As per the PPE schedule.

    Job Purpose    

    • To undertake effective testing of substation installations, protection systems and equipment, fault location, mal-operations investigations and acceptance testing of various equipment/materials.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Responsible to the Manager (Protection and Test) for the effective control and functioning of the Test Division.
    • Undertake technical investigations in the heavy current field relating to protection systems and electrical apparatus.
    • Conduct the pre-commission testing of high voltage, medium voltage and substation installations, protection schemes and equipment.
    • Locate faults in high, medium and low voltage cables and equipment.
    • Undertake research and investigations into any incidents of protection mal-operations and compiles reports thereon.
    • Install and wire protection relays and protection schemes.
    • Undertake routine and special technical investigations and quality tests of a heavy current nature as requisitioned by other Branches or Departments.
    • Conduct acceptance testing of electrical equipment and apparatus and the certification of compliance with Departmental Standards and relevant specifications (ie SABS, IEC and BS).
    • Maintains technical records and drawings of various types of protective devices and schemes.
    • Implements Departmental policies and supervises the performance, training and conduct of staff.
    • Institutes financial controls, monitoring expenditure and ensuring adherence to financial budgets.
    • Compile reports, maintain statistics and handles correspondence associated with the Division.
    • Assumes appointment in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) and associated Regulations.

    Superintendent (Water Network)

    Special Conditions    

    • Posts of Superintendent are interchangeable within the Department at the discretion of the Deputy Head.
