    Subject Head (contract appointment: 5 five years) - (1047)

    Duties and responsibilities:
    Provide academic leadership.
    Strengthen and maintain ties with the Bloemfontein branch of the department.
    Contribute to overall leadership in the faculty.
    Active participation and Involvement in applicable Faculty and UFS management Structures.

    • Contribute to initiate, formulate and implement a visionary academic strategy for the department.
    • Create and maintain a visionary research strategy for the department.
    • Build an effective team of scholars.
    • Encourage and actively support academic staff members to apply for external research and other grants.

    Inherent Job requirements:

    • A PHD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics on NQF level 10.

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor: Public Health/Community Health - (1043)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Develop and sustain a structured Public Health teaching and learning programme for postgraduate students in the faculty.
    • Develop and drive a strong research programme in Public Health with a focus on postgraduate students.
    • Responsible for coordination and management of Public Health teaching and learning and research activities in the Faculty.
    • Recruit and supervise postgraduate students in the field of Public Health.
    • Responsible for capacity development of faculty members involved in the Public Health teaching and learning, and research programmes.
    • Promote research excellence in the field of Public Health.
    • Promote inter-professional collaboration locally, nationally, regionally and internationally.
    • Execute and coordinate the Public Health teaching and learning and research activities within the Faculty of Health Sciences by taking the lead.
    • Liaise and support Public Health activities with other faculties.
    • Build and maintain strong partnerships and collaborations with other Public Health academic and government institutions nationally and internationally.

    Inherent  Job requirements:
    Senior Lecturer:

    • Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Public Health/Community Health or related field.
    • Experience with curriculum development and module coordination.
    • Experience of working in tertiary academic teaching and learning or relevant research environment.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Proven experience of successful postgraduate supervision.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
    • An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.

    Associate Professor:

    • Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Public Health/Community Health or related field. 
    • Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Act as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals. 
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters' or doctoral students. 
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.
    • An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.

    Recommendations:

    • Evidence of successful sourcing and management of grant/research funding. 
    • Higher education qualification or strong teaching and learning background.
    • Evidence of serving as a leader or chair of national or international academic body.
    • Experience of management and leadership in an academic/research institution.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide Psychotherapy and counselling with regard to personal, social, emotional and career development.
    • Identify, diagnose, and treat serious psychological problems and refer to other professionals when the need arises.

    Assistant Officer: Learning Technology Support Officer (post level 13) (Contract appointment: 3 years): Blended Learning Innovation Support and Services: Student Technology Training and Support - (1042)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Attend and respond to telephonic/email queries by users (staff/students) in the use of various learning technologies, including, but not limited to, the official Learning Management System (Blackboard).
    • Attend and respond to all user walk-in queries at the computer lab.
    • Provide support towards online/blended learning modules on the official Learning Management System (Blackboard).
    • Provide first-line technical support and troubleshooting and support towards technology in teaching and learning (and more specifically the Learning Management System) for users at the Blackboard Helpdesk.

    • Provide administrative support in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of student and staff training workshops within the BLISS focus area.
