    Miner - South32, Mamatwan Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of this role is to mine and extract ore according to Mining legislation and regulations.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics with 3 years’ experience in a hard rock mining environment;
    • Open cast blasting certificate for Metalliferous Mines is essential;
    •  Knowledge of SAP and MS Office will be an added advantage.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Taking charge of the opencast blasting operations within the designated area;
    • Ensure the delivery of quality product to the plant;
    • Achieve the daily production targets;
    • Be familiar with the production process activities, trends and brief operators accordingly at the start of each shift;
    •  Handle explosives in the mining environment; lock up extra or unused explosives and accessories;

    Supervisor Maintenance - South32, Wessels Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    The purpose of this role is supervising teams in the execution of work, inspections, and observations to ensure it is done in a safe and sustainable manner.

    Artisan Assistant - South32, Mamatwan Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • Ensuring compliance with the South32 commitment to Zero Harm, you will play a key role in safely assisting artisans with mobile machine maintenance and breakdowns. Compliance to all applicable procedures is essential.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 10 (internal employees) or Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science together with a minimum of 1 years’ experience in maintenance.
    • Valid Driver’s license is essential;
    • In depth knowledge of Surface Mining Principles is essential;
    • Experience in mobile machine maintenance or fitting, boiler making or electrical is advantageous.

    Auto Electrician - South32, Mamatwan Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to be responsible for timely installation, repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure that mining activities are executed in a safe manner as well as operate equipment and tests all working parts in functional area to ensure proper utilization.  

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science together with a N2 Technical Certificate for internal candidates or N3 Technical Certificate for external employees and an Auto Electrician Trade Test with a minimum of 2 years’ technical experience on surface mobile mining equipment;
    • In depth knowledge and understanding of VIMS systems, CAT electronic Technician (ET) and the starting & charging systems components and operations is essential;
    • In depth knowledge of earthmoving equipment is essential;
    • Workshop exposure which includes rebuilding of machines, wiring systems, fault finding and repairs to electrical circuits is essential;
    • Valid Code 08 Driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Interprets and coordinates pre-work with regards to repairs, planned and predictive maintenance;

    Operator Grader- South32, Mamatwan

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to grade the primary roads and active benches within the mine area.  Grading as part of  road and ramp construction will also be applicable from time to time. Clearing spillages from hauler bowls on haul roads is part of their daily task as well.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Serious contenders will have Grade 10 for internal candidates only and Grade 12 with Mathematics for external candidates, with a minimum of 1 years’ experience in operating mobile equipment in a mining or plant environment;
    • Mining production experience in surface mining operations is essential;
    • Excavator experience is essential;
    • Equipment license on CAT16M is essential;
    • Valid Code B Drivers License is essential;  
    • Competency B Certificate is advantageous.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Conduct the applicable Safe Work Instruction for normal routine tasks or Risk Assessment if non-routine tasks are required;
    • Work with physical assets, plant and equipment as defined by the Operation’s standards and operating procedures;
    • Execute production or related activities according to the daily mining schedule;
    • Follow the daily mining schedule for the machine and meet the daily targets;
    • Ensure continuous judgement to grade roads at the correct profile and maintain the correct width;
    • Ensure continuous judgement during road grading and ramp construction not to cut excessively deep or too much material which could damage the machine;
    • Create level surfaces for construction sites;
    • Clear spillages from hauler bowls on haul roads;
    • Clear fly rock after blasts.

    Specialist Health & Hygiene - South32, Mamatwan Mine

     POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • This role leads the Health and Hygiene work at the Mamatwan Mine  to effectively manage the execution of activities that the Health and Hygiene function is accountable for, across the operation. 

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a bachelor’s degree or National Diploma (Hygiene/ Science/ Similar) with a minimum of 4 years’ experience within Hygiene function at Specialist level and which 3 years’ experience is in mining or heavy industry; register with SAIOH together with a advanced certificate;
    • In depth knowledge of Health & Hygiene management processes and technologies, relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements across is essential;
    • Experienced in executing technical enviornment related work is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Implement and maintain Health & Hygiene systems and processes to enable the operations to meet regulatory and other requirements;
    • Facilitate the implementation of the Global Health Standard and HSEC Reporting Standard at the operation;
    • Provide specialist support and technical advice/coaching for management on site health/ hygiene matters (including event investigations);
    • Provide input into the short and long-term planning at the operation, ensuring that key health/hygiene risks are considered appropriately to support ongoing compliance and leading best practice;
    • Design and execute health/hygiene monitoring programs ensuring that they are fit for purpose, aligned with regulatory requirements and the operational risk profile;
    • Develop and maintain operations specific health/hygiene management system documentation (management plans, procedures, etc) in line with regulatory requirements, Global Health Standard and the operational risk profile;
    • Facilitate occupational exposure assessments and medical surveillance in line with “recognised” practice and with consideration of legal and Global Health Standard requirements;
    • Maintain process for the collection and verification of health/hygiene data relevant to the operation and undertake data analysis to enable emerging compliance health/ hygiene issues to be identified and actively managed;
    • Preparation and submission of regulatory corporate reporting processes specific to the operation.

    Superintendent Security - South32, Hotazel Manganese Mines

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    The role will be responsible for the execution of security operations, aligned with the security strategy at the Hotazel Manganese Mines (HMM). The purpose of the role is to maintain effective Security Operations across HMM, including a Control Center, which functions as a Security Hub. The role also deputises for the Security Manager as the focal point for security events, operational planning, and execution. The position is accountable for the continuous monitoring and protection of company assets, the evaluation of security breaches, recommendations, and implementation of corrective actions. The conduct of security audits and Security Threat and Vulnerability Assessments.

     REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12, a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., National Diploma or Degree) related to Security together with 5+ years substantiated experience in the security field as well as the application of security strategy in a corporate environment;
    • An in-depth knowledge of the application of technology, Investigations, and Intelligence in the field of security operations is essential;
    • Proven experience in management and leadership roles is essential;
    • Experience in security related project management activities as well as a broad practical exposure to various security related disciplines on a national and/or international level will be advantageous;
    • A valid Code E/EB driving license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Maintain and continuously improve the Security Function across HMM;
    • Improve security performance by implementing corrective actions, new initiatives, and suggestions from stakeholders;

    Principal Resource Geology - South32, Johannesburg

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    Reporting to the Lead Resource Geology, this position will play a pivotal role here at South32, with a focus on our world class manganese deposit in the Kalahari (Hotazel Manganese Mines), with the opportunity to expand your knowledge into multiple commodities throughout the business.  You will use your technical strengths in resource modelling and geostatistics, and your knowledge of tabular deposits to produce and report robust Mineral Resource estimates.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    You will have a passion and commitment to be part of a high-performance team. You will have the ability to thrive in a team environment and build stakeholder relationships as well as be a natural problem solver and quickly be able to analyse problems and provide solutions.

    Serious contenders will have:

    • B.Sc. Degree (or higher) in Geology (or equivalent), post graduate qualifications in Geostatistics will be highly regarded;
    • 10 years industry experience of which at least 5 years in resource modelling;
    • Acted as a Mineral Resource Competent Person (or equivalent) in tabular style mineral deposits;
    • Solid technical experience in exploratory data analysis, advanced geostatistical analysis, geological and resource modelling techniques;
    • Strong understanding of sampling theory, sampling and drilling techniques;
    • Strong understanding of the JORC code and its application across multiple commodities.

    Working closely with the Planning Function and HMM production geology teams, you will ensure that:

    • Resource definition programs are planned and executed in line with our exploration strategy;
    • HMM’s sampling and analytical processes are of a high quality, with a focus on QAQC to deliver reliable data for resource and grade control models;
    • Annual updates of the HMM Mineral Resource models comply with the JORC code and other industry best practice;
    • Leading practices are implemented to sustain and improve orebody knowledge;
    • Geoscientific expertise is provided to the Operations and other functions as required by the business;
    • Timely reporting and declaration of Mineral Resources as the Competent Person for HMM.
