    Claims Technical Advice Manager

    OPPORTUNITY

    Santam has a position available as the Claims Technical Advice Manager within the Claims Technical Advice department. Claims Technical Advice operates within the Quality and Knowledge Management which is part and parcel of Claims Services. We are looking for a highly professional and driven individual to assume the role of leading the claims technical advice activities of the Santam Group, based in Centurion Pretoria. The position reports to the Head: Quality and Knowledge Management. Contribute towards Santam profitability and growth by influencing the quality and standard of claims handling.

    What Will Make You Successful In This Role

    • Driving the claims strategy by exploring and implementing effective operational processes and ensuring an alignment between the claims business needs and the rest of the stakeholders. Research and empower claims teams with knowledge to be able to handle claims indemnification effectively.
    • Contribute to the overall claims’ strategy through building sustainable relationships with the stakeholders and providing customer focused solutions through knowledge sharing methodologies and claims technical advice.
    • Transferring knowledge through workshops and publication of claims bulletins within the Commercial and Personal lines.
    • Ensure sufficient controls to ensure that a request for advice on a claim is being handled timeously and in adherence to turn
    • around time.
    • Increase collaboration with different stakeholders (product development, broker distribution, intermediary administration, risk services, training, quality assessment)
    • Accountable for claims technical advice within the claims business and ability to apply insurance law principles in claims handing. Must have the ability to interpretation of policy wording relating to claims handling on request to ensure accuracy of claims decisions.
    • Ensure there is minimum interruption to finalisation of claims and present legally sound recommendations to more senior staff.
    • Promote uniformity of policy interpretation and claims handling within claims services to ensure adherence to the regulations with claims teams (Insurance Act, Short-term Insurance Act, FAIS Act, POPIA, FICA Bill). Interpretation and analysis of Claims data to manage knowledge gaps for effective claims decisions.
    • Ability for effective team management and contribute to the creation of a learning and knowledge sharing culture using latest knowledge management platforms.
    • Ensuring skills sharing amongst the team Coaching and supporting of the team. Ensure team effectiveness and value to the organization.
    • Build and maintain a resilient and agile team.
    • Encourage continuous learning and development of the team

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Legal qualification (LLB).
    • Insurance related qualification (COP; ICIBS; HCII). – an advantage
    • Experience in leading a team.
    • Knowledge management principals an advantage
    • 5-8 years’ experience in operational claims & underwriting environment
    • Excellent knowledge of claims policies and governance
    • Experience in a legal environment (Law of Contract, Law of Evidence & Delict).

    Manager: Business Development- Crop Insurance

    What will you do?

    This career opportunity is available at Santam Specialist Business, Agri Business Unit, for the Manager Business Development – Agriculture Crop Insurance (Africa) who will be based in Gauteng.

    This role assumes overall responsibility for Growth and Profitability in territories outside of South Africa.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Development and implementation of strategy for crop insurance in territories beyond the borders of South Africa.
    • Marketing – High level co-ordination to support sales and identify new business opportunities.
    • Build and maintain high quality relationships with Sanlam Pan Africa Partners.
    • Identify opportunities for profitable growth in territories outside of South Africa.
    • Motivate, retain and guide personnel.
    • Reinsurance: Principal Accountabilities
    • Assist Santam Re and reinsurance broker in the placement of the Santam reinsurance program for Crop insurance.
    • Compile and distribute monthly reinsurance reports.
    • Compile information pack for reinsurance renewal.
    • Market expansion: Principal Accountabilities
    • Responsible to develop crop insurance solutions for small scale farmers.
    • As member of the SAIA Agricultural Forum work toward creating a Public Private Partnership for agricultural insurance in South Africa.
    • Research and develop Index based products where indemnity-based products are not suited. Represent Santam Agriculture on the SAIA Agricultural Forum.

    Qualification And Experience

    • Relevant qualification in Agriculture/ Business Management Degree or equivalent.
    • Minimum 7 years’ experience in short term insurance business development were experience in Agriculture Crop insurance will be an advantage.
    • Understanding of Reinsurance
    • Experience African markets outside of South Africa.
    • Experience in operating at a senior management level in the short-term insurance industry.
    • Experience in conducting high-level negotiations with clients.
    • Strong sales and business skills.
