    Programme Director: Postgraduate Studies and Research (Contract Appointment: Five Years) Job ID: 5872

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Manage the curriculum of the BComHons (Management Accounting) and BComHons (Taxation) to align with the competency requirements of professional accountancy bodies and the expectations of employers.
    • Coordinate the appointment of contract staff, in consultation with the Director: School of Accountancy, to deliver modules on the Honours programmes.
    • Provide general leadership to ensure the effective offering of the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation), and the Masters and Doctoral programmes offered by the School of Accountancy, including the monitoring of throughput rates and coordinating the implementation of remedial actions.
    • Manage the research supervision process for the Honours, Masters and Doctoral students in the School of Accountancy.
    • Ensure that the Honours, Masters and Doctoral programmes of the School of Accountancy are offered in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
    • Coordinate with the other programme directors in the School of Accountancy to ensure the effective offering of the School's postgraduate programmes.
    • Serve as a management committee member of the School of Accountancy and deputise for the Director: School of Accountancy when required.
    • Serve as a representative of the School of Accountancy on the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences’ Research Committee.
    • Attend and contribute to meetings called by the Vice-Dean: Learning & Teaching; Vice-Dean : Research; Faculty Manager; or Director: School of Accountancy relating to effective programme management or the research endeavours of the School of Accountancy. 
    • Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation), and the Masters and Doctoral programmes offered by the school. 
    • Collate and provide information as required for the continued accreditation / ongoing monitoring of the BCom Hons (Management Accounting) and BCom Hons (Taxation) programmes by professional accountancy bodies (specifically CIMA and SAIT) and coordinate the monitoring visits undertaken by these bodies. 
    • Implement applicable quality management policies and regulations of the University. 
    • Build/manage relationships with the professional bodies that accredit the BCom Hons (Management Accounting) and BCom Hons (Taxation) programmes (specifically CIMA and SAIT). 
    • Build/manage relationships with the employers of graduates of the BCom Hons (Management Accounting) and BCom Hons (Taxation) programmes. 
    • Contribute to the marketing of the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation), and the Masters and Doctoral programmes to prospective students, including providing content input to the programme brochures and EMS / UFS social media, and participating in relevant UFS-related marketing initiatives. 
    • Promote career and professional registration opportunities to current students.
    • Provide academic advice to students registered for, and prospective students considering the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation) and the Masters and Doctoral programmes of the school. 
    • Assume responsibility for admissions to the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation) and the Masters and Doctoral programmes of the school. 
    • Manage the process of admissions and registrations to the BCom Hons (Management Accounting), BCom Hons (Taxation), and the Masters and Doctoral programmes of the school. 
    • Take responsibility for the amendments of rule books, timetables, etc. 
    • Serve as the School of Accountancy’s representative on the Faculty of EMS’s Exam Board. 
    • Implement applicable policy and regulatory requirements of the University as it pertains to academic advice and registrations. 
    • Chair the School’s Research Committee, compile the agendas for committee meetings, and manage research proposal presentations by Masters and Doctoral students. 
    • Promote a culture of research by, disseminating details of workshops of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies, research conferences, and funding opportunities, and identifying and appointing research fellows and post-doctoral fellows. 
    • Ensure appropriate recordkeeping of the research activities of staff and students, including overseeing the recording of research outputs onto RIMS. 
    • Implement applicable research policies and procedures of the University. 

    Inherent requirements:

    • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the School of Accountancy at the University of the Free State (UFS) 
    • A master’s degree in accountancy.

    Programme Director: Chartered Accountancy (Contract Appointment: Five Years) Job ID: 5868

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Manage the curriculum of the BAcc, PG Dip in Chartered Accountancy and BAccHons [i.e. the ‘CA programme’] to align with the competency requirements of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and the expectations of employers.
    • Provide general leadership in the effective offering of the CA programme, including the monitoring of throughput rates and coordinating the implementation of remedial actions.
    • Ensure academic coherence and coordination of the various modules comprising the CA programme (horizontal and vertical coordination).
    • Coordinate with the Programme Director: General Accountancy, where the BAcc programme overlaps with the BCom(Acc) programme, to ensure the effective delivery of the CA undergraduate program.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments that provide service modules on the CA programme.
    • Ensure that the CA programme is offered in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
    • Serve as a management committee member of the School of Accountancy and deputise for the Director: School of Accountancy when required.
    • Attend and contribute to meetings called by the Vice-Dean: Learning & Teaching / responsible HOD / Faculty Manager relating to effective programme management / marketing.
    • Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the CA programme.

    • Take responsibility for amendments to rule books, timetables, etc. 
    • Serve as the School of Accountancy’s representative on the Faculty of EMS’s Readmission Appeals Committee. 
    • Implement applicable policy and regulatory requirements of the University as it pertains to academic advice and registrations. 
    • Provide academic leadership to ensure the effective functioning of the Thuthuka bursary and wrap-around support programme. 
    • Assume responsibility for the financial management (annual budgeting, financial planning, allocation of funds, and financial control), and deployment of the resources needed for maximum benefit to the delivery of the Thuthuka bursary programme. 
    • Attend meetings with SAICA / the Thuthuka Education Upliftment Fund as a representative of the University of the Free State. 

    Inherent requirements:

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA)

    Lecturer: Childhood Education (IsiXhosa/Setswana) (Job ID: 5877) - Department of Childhood Education

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development (ECD).
    • Participate in the Work Integrated Learning programme of the faculty (Teaching Practice).
    • Ensure active involvement in research activities of faculty.
    • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development specifically and Education generally.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A relevant Doctoral degree in Education on NQF Level 10  with a focus on Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development (ECD) (for a permanent appointment) 

    or

    • A relevant master’s degree in education on NQF Level 9  with a focus on Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development (ECD) (contract appointment: five years during which a relevant doctoral degree in Education on NQF Level 10 with a focus on Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). 
    • Candidates must submit proof of registration for a doctoral degree in Education with Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development as the focus of specialisation.
    • Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis (or dissertation) to indicate relevance to Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Development specifically.
    • A formal teaching qualification in IsiXhosa or Setswana Foundation Phase or ECD Teaching (e.g. Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent).
    • A minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience in a school environment or at least two (2) years in a higher education or research and development environment.
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at academic conferences or equivalent.
    • Provide evidence of manuscript (s) produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

    Recommendations:

    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national or international accredited journals,
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision.
