    Manager Personal Lines Rating & Analysis Reporting

    What will you do?

     

    This position, based at Santam’s Head Office (Bellville), calls for a commercially minded individual to develop analytical insights and implement appropriate rating and underwriting interventions across all distribution channels to ensure delivery of the Personal Lines profit and growth targets.

     

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Contribute, as member of Personal Lines underwriting management team, to the development, implementation, and execution of the Personal Lines underwriting strategies and priorities.
    • Shared responsibility for delivery of current and future strategic underwriting projects.
    • Shared responsibility for the setting and achievement of PL growth and profit targets with all distribution channels through pro-active trend analysis.
    • Prioritise appropriate corrective actions to address growth and profit deviations.
    • Liaise with Actuarial & Product Management on Santam’s Personal Lines pricing- and product strategy and maintenance of product range to remain competitive.
    • Provide data insights to team and executives and develop commercially viable solutions and drive various process automations and efficiencies.
    • Contribute to new business model development and enable delivery thereof from a pricing and underwriting perspective.
    • Manage relationship with internal and external business partners – provide pricing and underwriting insights and expertise where required.
    • Lead a team of underwriting data analysts.
    • Analyse and build statistical models for various sets of data on a regular basis to assist in determining business trends. This includes forecasting models.
    • Predictive Underwriting model design and implementation.
    • Data quality control and data management.

    Qualification And Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree - applicable major preferred (Statistics/Applied Maths).
    • Minimum of 10 years strong Data Analysis & Management experience is required.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in insurance products, systems and data management.
    • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience operating at a management level.
    • Insurance-related qualifications, such as AIISA/FIISA, recommended but not required.

    Underwriting Consultant

    What will you do?

    Reviews and evaluates moderately complex policy applications, renewals, repricing, restrictions and cancellations to determine risk acceptability and coverage. If necessary, contacts applicants to obtain additional required information. Sets appropriate premium rates and issues coverage. Answers questions from applicants regarding underwriting processes and decisions. Selects and accepts standard risks on behalf of the company. Decisions are taken within defined policy parameters. These responsibilities may be applicable across all industries and disciplines.

    Senior Commercial Underwriter: Namibia

    What will you do?

    Commercial Underwriting within the Underwriting Services team has a permanent position available for a Senior Commercial Underwriter: Namibia based in Gauteng, reporting to the Underwriting Manager: Property

    To manage Santam’s Namibia’s Commercial portfolio with regards to risk appetite and underwriting mandate adherence to support and ensure achievement of C&P’s profitable growth targets.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Work with the team in Namibia to ensure all commercial risks on this portfolio adhere to Santam’s risk appetite and are written in accordance with our underwriting rules. This specifically includes all reinsurance arrangements entered into by the Namibian business unit, with regards to Commercial insurance
    • Ensure that all Underwriting governance required for these portfolios is in place with appropriate reporting and resultant action steps
    • Assist in maintaining and creating policy wordings for this portfolio, as needed.
    • Assist in determining business specifications for the design and development of this portfolio’s offerings in Policy Centre, as needed
    • Maintain and provide input and guidance on these portfolios to ensure market competitiveness & retain relevance
    • Support underwriting managers in coming up with new solutions and innovations (including the use of Artificial Intelligence to automate underwriting decisions) that allow Santam to remain the market leader in Commercial insurance
    • Work with Actuaries to determine appropriate rating structures for these portfolios
    • Develop rating tools/solutions for these portfolios for use by external business partners as needed
    • Meet with brokers to discuss reasons for decisions taken and negotiate differentiated terms, as needed
    • Handle all Namibian referrals of a complex nature and make underwriting decisions which requires logical balancing of profit and growth considerations within your mandate and in accordance with the underwriting rules determined by the underwriting managers for Property, Motor and Liability
    • Assist in mandate setting, including associated curriculum for Namibian Commercial Underwriting.
    • Responsible for policy wordings, policy guidelines and implementation of any regulatory underwriting requirements, e.g. PPR for this portfolio.
    • Assist Commercial Underwriting in reaching its objectives. This may include getting involved in initiatives not listed here.
    • Develop talent and help grow the new generation of Santam Underwriters.

    Experience And Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma: AIISA or FIISA or similar
    • Recommendation: Management or Leadership qualification
    • Must qualify for Santam’s Commercial Underwriting Level 1 mandate, as per our assessment methodology and criteria (this will form part of the interview process)
    • Proven track record of at least 10 years’ experience within an Underwriting environment, preferably with substantial commercial experience
    • Advance Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

    Knowledge

    • Specialist Property, Motor and Casualty Technical Underwriting expertise
    • Thorough knowledge of Santam’s Commercial products is peferable
    • Knowledge of (and understanding of the impact of) the relevant legislation on the business e.g. Building regulations etc.

    Insurance Consultant

    This role is focused on, but not limited to; servicing broker requests, including enquiries.

    • Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    • Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries;
    • Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / agri aspects of policies;
    • Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements;
    • Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy onto books;
    • Undertaking to adjust premiums in line with new asset values;
    • Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests;
    • Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements;
    • Assist with profiling the client with the best suitable product and underwriting criteria;
    • Advising brokers to ensure that we meet with clients’ needs in terms of the correct cover and product;
    • Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement; and
    • Standing in for Consultants should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Matric/ Grade 12
    • 60 commercial lines FAIS credits
    • A relevant insurance related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 4) would be advantageous
    • Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in short term insurance commercial lines and/or Agri assets
