    Social & Human Rights Principal

    The Opportunity 
    This role will assist in the development of the Glencore Copper Social Performance and Human Rights policies, strategies, annual plans, targets and performance indicators for the Copper Department. Support the monitoring and evaluating of reports on the implementation of Social Performance & Human Rights Policy, Standards, Strategies, Performance and Governance.  
     
    In this role you will: 

    • Contribute to the development of guidelines and protocols based on specific Social Performance and Human Rights related topics that are Glencore Copper strategic focus areas, risks and opportunities. 
    • Support the development of Copper programmes in the delivery of key Social Performance and Human Rights focus areas, including stakeholder engagement, social investment monitoring and reporting, indigenous peoples, cultural heritage and human rights management.
    • Provide advice on Social Performance and Human Rights issues including social risk and impact assessment, land acquisition and resettlement, social closure planning.  
    • Support the sites to establish and maintain Social Performance and Human Rights systems to manage data, information and measure performance on key metrics and programme delivery. 
    • Assist in the data collection, analysis, compilation and coordination of Social Performance and Human Rights data for Glencore Copper and Corporate reports.  
    • Review copper assets’ Social Performance and Human Rights risk registers and determine what needs to be changed based on risk type, frequency, and controls related to the risk for the region. 
    • Advise the site management on how to deal with risks, understanding the assessment of potential maximum consequence, current level of risk, and control effectiveness. 
    • Support Copper contribution and input into Glencore Social Performance and Human Rights working groups and provide a positive contribution to assist the Company meet its Social Performance and Human Rights goals. 
    • Assist the Senior Social Performance and Human Rights Principal with the coordination of the HSEC Assurance Programme. Participation/assistance on Social Performance and Human Rights Departmental Audits. Active involvement in Standard compliance verification. 
    • Support in the review of the Capital Management Framework social performance requirements.  

    Your training, skills & expertise checklist: 

    • Tertiary degree in Social Science, environmental, mining, or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred. 
    • 10+ years’ experience working in social performance and human rights in a mining, oil and gas operation at a regional or corporate level. Consultancy experience also considered. 
    • Assurance, auditing and reporting experience preferred. 
    • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing social performance policies, standards and processes in a multinational working environment. 
    • Ability to apply system thinking, and time and project management principles. 
    • Proven ability to develop written and presentation reports for senior and executive management. 
    • Ability to travel globally and to sites.   
    • Fluency in English both written and spoken. Spanish and/or French language would be beneficial.

    General Accountability:
    Financial Perspective

    • Adherence to rigorous and robust governance and oversight processes for Copper Africa by applying best practices in line with fiscal and monetary regime/s within which the function resides; and by supporting accounting and reporting functions to ensure financial governance and discipline across finance functions and related service delivery. 
    • Assist in the adherence to financial reporting cycles in Copper Africa by ensuring timeous reporting of site financial and operating results; ensuring information is accurate, meaningful and prepared per standards in line with group reporting, industry, regulatory, IFRS, and other requirements.  
    • Prepare/Assist with review all GCF financial reporting deliverables (monthly, quarter-end and year-end) for the dormant companies (corporate entities other than GCA) and GA by applying technical accounting knowledge and skills, by drawing on appropriate templates, and by interrogating as appropriate where apparent anomalies are identified. 
    • Apply routines efficiently relating to accounting, financial and reporting systems and processes within sphere of influence and control of Copper Africa by following set procedures and working within set systems (e.g. SAP) for effectively delivery of outputs 

     Operational Perspective

    • Support financial governance and oversight activities by assisting with the guidance of the Finance & Admin Manager and the Financial Controller in the implementation of financial, accounting and reporting (Copper Africa) routines and procedures, focusing on statutory accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting with due regard to the control/compliance environment. 
    • Adhere to financial reporting cycles by ensuring timeous reporting by Group entities, ensuring data is accurate, meaningful and properly prepared on standardized template/s per regulatory requirements (e.g. OHADA, IFRS) and group reporting requirements and chart of accounts. 
    • Prepare financial reporting deliverables of Group and the dormant companies (corporate entities other than GCA)by interrogating SSD and SAP, reviewing comments submitted, ensuring accuracy and reviewing calculations, comparing cumulative data and information, discerning ‘spikes, and interpreting exceptions. 
    • Monitor structure & procurement processes (coordination of Sourcing & Transaction Services).  
    • Monitor overheads (recurring transactions, incl. leases, etc.) and business support (consultants, ad hoc suppliers, projects) 
    • Monitor accruals, prepayments, transactions (WFlow, PR, PO & SES, GRNI, Budget control) and ensure recurring expenses, accruals and provisions are correctly accounted for. Co-ordinate project cost of Fixed Assets (Incl. PR & SES). 
    • Prepare intercompany recovery schedules, validate incoming charges and prepare data analysis for the different Operations. 
    • Assist in the performance of stewardship reviews on balance sheet, sub-ledgers, financial arrangements- and policies for Group and dormant entities (corporate entities other than GCA) annually by reviewing balance sheet reconciliations; ensuring policy compliance; and checking calculations using financial accounting conventions, knowledge and skills. 
    • Track and monitor of open actions and close out of open actions relating to internal, external, insurance audits and Stewardship reviews by using information systems and through vigilant review and follow-up with Group entities and Operations.  

     Cost & management reporting, forecasting and budgeting 

    • Prepare inputs to the annual Budget and subsequent estimate/forecast updates and non-financial submissions. 
    • Prepare and load budget and forecast templates. 
    • Prepare monthly cost center reports for distribution to Copper Africa CFO, FM and individual department managers with detailed explanations for exceptions and variances compared to budget. 
    • Required to work closely with various departmental managers in order to understand their costs and cost estimates to be included in the budget. 
    • Update cost center owners and changes in DOA

     Customer Perspective 

    • Advise and support site finance teams and Group entities to execute on their accountabilities within guidelines set by Regional Financial Controller 
    • Maintain professional contact with finance teams on an ongoing basis to understand underlying operating environment issues and events on site 
    • Build and maintain open and constructive relationships with Group entities to ensure practices within the financial/accounting and reporting (Copper Africa) are consistently implemented

    Principal Risk Systems & Governance

    We are looking for an experienced Principal Risks Systems & Governance to support our ERM Team based at our office in Johannesburg, South Africa. As part of the global Copper Division within the Enterprise Risk and Copper Management System team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation and governance of an Enterprise Risk, Audit and HSEC management system. Your expertise and leadership will be pivotal in driving operational excellence and building a foundation of business resilience within our organization.     The main tasks and responsibilities:

    • Lead the planning, design and implementation of the ERM system, ensuring it enables the risk management, HSEC and audit standards. 
    • Engage with a range of vendors and potential implementation partners to support the embedment of the enterprise system. 
    • Own and govern the ERM system once implemented. 
    • Collaborate with internal Risk, Audit, HSEC and Technology teams to conduct business process design, and systemisation of the processes within the Enterprise System. 
    • Establish data governance processes and policies to ensure the quality, accuracy and consistency of data within the system.  
    • Develop and maintain system governance standards, procedures and controls to safeguard the ERM systems functionality and security.  
    • Establish Risk KPIs, reporting and routines to monitor the health of the Risk Management framework. 
    • Develop training and guidance for the ERM system across the Copper Department.  
    • Act as a SME for the user support team, and associated issue resolution related to the ERM system. 
    • Utilise data analytics and various techniques to uncover efficiencies and extract insights, to support risk-based decision making.  
    • Support ERM audits providing assurance to senior Copper management. 

     Our ideal person: 

    • Experience selecting and implementing Enterprise systems. 
    • Experience with Risk, Audit and HSEC processes. 
    • Ability to think critically, identify options/risks and recommend creative solutions. 
    • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams. 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.  
    • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies used in ERM systems. 

    Minimum requirements: 

    • Suitable tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Information Technology, or Project Management or relevant field. 
    • Advanced degree or professional certifications in business, risk management or data governance would be beneficial. 
    • Minimum 8 years' experience in consulting, operations, engineering, or project management in the resources sector or related heavy industries. 
    • Proven experience in implementing and managing Enterprise systems in a global organization. 
    • Experience in business process mapping. 
    • Strong knowledge of data governance principals and practices.  
    • Frequent travel required during system design (1-2 years) and implementation (quarterly) to the assets for engagements, workshop facilitation and training.  
    • Fluent in English; proficiency in French and Spanish is considered an advantage.
