    Intern

    Position Purpose

    • The purpose of the Graduate Internship Programme is to work under supervision of a professionally qualified individual, in order to gain experience through a structured 24-month training programme. The programme seeks to place the graduate intern in specific areas within TNPA according to their academic background, career aspirations and business requirements.

    Position Outputs

    • Follow a structured training programme
    • Undergo performance reviews and assessments
    • Perform all duties as contained in his/her development programme, as well as which he/she may reasonably be required to perform by Transnet National Ports Authority

    Fire Fighter

    Position Purpose

    • Provide protection of life, property and the environment by responding to fire and emergency situations, conduct fire prevention duties, up keeping and servicing of fire equipment.

    Position Outputs

    • Maintain Operational Readiness
    • Proactively and reactively attend to fire and hazmat emergencies with a view to save life, assets, and environment.
    • Maintenance of fire equipment
    • Perform all specialized procedures in dealing with emergency other incidents
    • Adhere to Governance and Risk Management in terms of legislations, policies and procedures
    • Adhere to Transnet, policies, procedures and Guidelines
    • Caring for other person’s live and/or assets without favour and/prejudice
    • Continuous assessment of own performance, professional interaction and ethical dealings with stakeholder/clients and co-workers.
    • Perform fire patrols after hours.
    • Inspection of Dangerous Goods Freight Staged in Marshalling yards
    • Fire and equipment inspections of cargo sheds, warehouse and other structures.
    • Fire protection duties on cargo and chemical tankers and explosives.
    • Commands incident site until arrival of higher authority.
    • Handling of all Hazmat and fire equipment.
    • Man the fire control room.
    • Man fire equipment on board tugs during vessel incidents.
    • Standby and inspection of hot work sites.
    • Inspection and testing of fire detection, fire suppression and sprinkler systems.
    • Grain elevator inspections (threat of dust explosions).
    • Hot work inspection on vessels, Rail Network, and depot construction sites
    • Perform any other function as directed by a person having authority.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 or Equivalent (NQF 4) 
    • Fire Fighter 1 (SAQA/IFSAC) Accredited.
    • Fire Fighter 2 (SAQA/IFSAC) Accredited.
    • Hazmat Awareness (SAQA/IFSAC) Accredited.
    •  Hazmat Operational (SAQA/IFSAC)
    • Valid First Aid (level 3) or valid Basic Ambulance Assistants Certificate.
    •  Be in possession of a valid driver licence minimum C1 with a valid PrDP and in a position to drive such a vehicle. (OD Specific) Work Experience

    Manager: Stakeholder Heritage Management

    Position Purpose

    • To market and enhance heritage assets offerings to stakeholders. Identify opportunities, facilitate, and enable partnerships with external parties to promote Transnet’s heritage assets, and create
    • New sustainable revenue streams. This, while concurrently, implementing the heritage policy and strategy, and ensuring alignment with legislative and business requirements, corporate governance guidelines and principles.

    Position Outputs

    • Fostering institutional partnerships, liaison, managing, and promoting relationships with steam clubs, foundations, museums, and other stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement an integrated Heritage framework across the business (ODs) to ensure heritage assets are managed uniformly and commercialised appropriately, ensuring that there are SLA’ s are in place.
    • Identify and develop commercialisation opportunities to yield a return on Transnet’s investments and Heritage Assets, including but not limited to identifying sponsorship or fundraising opportunities.
    • Continuously review heritages asset for commercial usage, review of heritage assets for alienation and revenue generation. While simultaneously balancing the preservation of Transnet’s heritage assets with revenue generation.
    • Implement commercialisation initiatives for Transnet’s Heritage assets and exploitation thereof through tourism and increased patronage for revenue generation purposes, reputational gain and ensuring sustained and growing interest in all stakeholders.
    • Support engagements with the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) as statutory body to ensure that expectations are met and aligned.
    • Align any heritage asset disposal requirements with SAHRA and other legislative bodies.
    • Develop and maintaining a comprehensive heritage asset register from a national Transnet-wide perspective.
    • Integrate the management of heritage assets into the existing and planned asset management policies, procedures, and strategies.
    • Implement governance and fair practices in the treatment of heritage assets; and create standardised operational procedures and processes to manage the expectations of the various stakeholders in line with the Heritage Asset Preservation policy.
    • Manage the co - ordination of Heritage Advisory Committee; and streamline stakeholder management processes and engagement.
    • Partner with relevant tourism operators and steam clubs in the Heritage Rail market to promote rail history and create sustainable revenue streams.
    • Seek and expand into new markets relating to Transnet Heritage that are aligned to national heritage, arts, culture & and heritage strategies.
    • Identify heritage assets to be restored, maintained and secured in line with regulatory and legislative requirements and advise on restoration processes.
    • Develop partnerships with external partners for the preservation and restoration of Transnet’s heritage assets in line with Transnet’s policy frameworks.
    • Facilitate, present, and implement public, educational, and outreach programmes.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Postgraduate Degree in Heritage, Museum Studies, History, Curatorial Studies, History of Arts, Anthropology or Social Sciences.
    • Postgraduate level qualification such as Master of Social Science, Master of Arts and/or Master of Business Administration will be an advantage.
    • At least 8 years relevant experience in a similar position, of which 3 to 5 years must have been at middle management.

    • Uses communication strategies to effectively engage, advocate, and inform stakeholders and the public about the Heritage portfolio’s strategic direction.
