    Artisan: Building- Western Cape

    Purpose  

    • To carry out the maintenance and repairs of the SABC Western Cape buildings and structures in line with maintenance schedule, ad-hoc repairs of building facilities. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

    • Provide Line Manager with the descriptions and specifications for equipment and materials required for maintenance or repair on various items
    • Carrying out minor changes such as modifications to various systems as instructed
    • Assist with maintaining the performance and appearance of building offices to specification for optimal use.
    • Instruct technical assistant as to assistance required.
    • Transport tools, equipment and materials to worksite.
    •  Assemble and dismantle scaffolding as needed.
    • Prepare tools, equipment and materials for use,
    • Oversee minor and major projects 
    • Report unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor.
    • Discuss problems encountered with supervisor and resolve them as instructed.
    • Report back to supervisor once job is completed.
    • In the absence of the supervisor, take leadership responsibility and supervise work on building to ensure that the work is carried out safely.
    • Co-ordination role in contracts 
    • Organise, plan and control operational activities 
    • Carry out quality checks
    •  Set up and control Maintenance schedules and formulate daily routines 
    • Execute maintenance according to plan & Budget
    • Fault finding repair work in line with developed repair methodology 
    • Conduct daily inspections and assessment of building structures (walls, doors, roofs floors etc)
    • Compile lists of required material and control material
    • Ensure cleanness of storerooms, workshops, parking facilities and general 
    • Produce daily, weekly and monthly maintenance activity reports

    GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE 

    •  Carry out inspections of building
    •  Ensure adherence to Building Maintenance standards.
    • Adhere to safety regulations and standard safe practices.

    STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

    • Assist management in sourcing equipment and materials required

    INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Qualified Artisan (Minimum of NTC3 or N3 & Trade Test
    •  Certificate/equivalent qualification)

    EXPERIENCE

    •  5 Years’ experience in a maintenance and building environment

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Knowledge of fire protection reticulation equipment
    •  Experience on plumbing systems for high rise buildings.
    • Works effectively with others, co-operates with colleagues and is sensitive to people’s needs.
    • Identifies problems and finds solutions to them. 
    •  Isolates problem areas and uses appropriate techniques to solve them.
    • Uses machinery and equipment safely. 
    • Doesn’t put self or others at risk of injury. 
    • Understanding of potential dangers in the workplace.
    • Knowledge of hand and motor skills needed to perform essential work activities.

    Supervisor Security (Western Cape)

    Main purpose of the position:

    • To plan, manage and co-ordinate physical security and ensuring optimal safety and protection of the SABC assets and people. To ensure NKP compliance.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Effective planning and control of the physical security.
    • Effective planning to minimize security risks and efficient safeguarding of assets.
    • Manage and monitor the physical security.
    • Ensure NKP Compliance by outsourced security service provider.
    • Ensure that the standard of the contractor compiles with the standard and policies set by the SABC.
    • Manage the fixed asset system of Protection services to ensure that the asset register is timeously updated.
    • Monitoring of the access control system and providing information thereof, when necessary and monitoring equipment upkeep.
    • Ensure that JPC meetings are convened as scheduled.
    • Effective interaction with all the relevant NKP role-players.
    • Ensure that the access control system is functional and providing reports when necessary.
    • Ensuring maintenance and checks of fire equipment.
    • Provide accurate monthly security reports reflecting the status of physical security.
    • Proper representation of the Provincial 2x NKP installations in Security Officer’s Leadership Forums (SOLF).
    • Keep all emergency related plans up to date as per NKP requirements.
    • Ensure accurate office administration in accordance with instructions and relevant SOP’s/ procedures.
    • Identify risks aligned to security and provide input for risk mitigating factors.
    • Adherence to SABC security related processes.
    • Adherence to NKP Act and requirements.
    • Ensure that no deviation occur which can be to the detriment of the SABC.
    • Effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Liaise with all relevant NKP external stakeholders and role-players providing guidance, mentorship and coaching to the outsourced security where necessary.
    • Skills transfer for security monitoring systems.

    INHERENT/ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS   

    • Matric
    • 5 years’ experience in security environment
    • Psira registration at Grade A and NKP certificate
    • Understanding of the different role players within the Security Sector
    • Understanding of applicable legislative and regulations
    • Advanced knowledge and understanding of what is expected in the Security field
    • Good knowledge of the relevant systems
    • NKP Compliance aligned to OHS standards
    • Position is based in Cape Town
