    Commercial Underwriting Analyst

    Santam’s Commercial Underwriting Business Unit has a vacancy for a Commercial Underwriting Analyst. The successul incumbent can be based anywhere within South Africa.
    The Primary Purpose Of This Role Is

    • To design and provide regular management information reports and conduct detailed underwriting analysis for Underwriting Services and the C&P business units
    • To monitor performance, determine trends, do book reviews for both new book acquisitions as well as unprofitable portfolios, determine high risks and exposure, raise alarm bells where required etc. and assist in deciding on corrective actions to ensure that we achieve the Commercial growth and profit targets.
    • Perform underwriting analyses as requested by Commercial Underwriting Manco members

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Drive achievement of Growth and Profit targets of C&P Commercial
    • Monthly analysis and reports to Commercial Underwriting, Broker Services and Namibia
    • Ad hoc analysis and reports to Commercial Underwriting, Broker Services and Namibia
    • Engagement visits to each region to drive growth & profitability by sharing data insights, frameworks, providing benchmarks and developing action plans
    • Prepare presentations, written reports etc. with statistical data which will be used to enable business decisions
    • Provide meaningful advice and recommendations for corrective actions
    • Engagement with IT Information Management to provide guidance on the design of monthly underwriting reporting requirements and communication of changes in Business Information to relevant stakeholders
    • Analyse and build complex and unique statistical models for various sets of data on a regular basis to determine business trends
    • Automation of standard monthly reporting, as well as new analytical reports produced from time to time
    • Initiate efficiency solutions
    • Responsible for quality delivery of data solutions
    • Testing and sign-off of information solutions delivered
    • Manage and track change requests to fulfilment
    • Act as Proxy Product owner on various products

    Qualification And Experience

    • Degree in data science or programming, i.e. formal education in data analysis
    • FAIS requirement: 60 credits in terms of Commercial lines
    • Higher Certificate in the Short Term Insurance Program
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in data analyses
    • Ideally 5 years of experience in Short term Insurance with experience in underwriting and analysis

    Manager: Business Intelligence

    The purpose of this role is to track, measure and report on performance data for the business. Data is our most important asset and a crucial element to management of the business as a whole. Accurate reporting is of the utmost importance and this individual has the responsibility to provide reports on standard key performance indicators as well as ad-hoc reports to the Commercial & Personal community at large.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Reports on portfolio profitability in accordance with company budgets
    • Provide data and analysis to Head: Commercial underwriting and Underwriting Managers as required
    • Drive various process automations and efficiencies within Management Information
    • Responsible for generating, quality and distribution of reports on a monthly and ad-hoc basis
    • Responsible for implementation of information solutions
    • Provide pricing and underwriting knowledge and expertise where required.
    • Engagement at primarily SBU Heads and Regional Managers - Persuading and Influencing
    • Engagement with IT - Management Information (MI) in order to ensure continuous improvement of both the processes and systems as required
    • Providing advice, solutions and resolving complex information queries
    • To monitor and provide advice, solutions and resolve problems relating to systems / underwriting information
    • Responsible for accurate implementation of CL information solutions
    • Building historical analysis views
    • Product owner of CL data solutions
    • Represent CLUW on Santam information governing authority (SIGA)
    • Provide insight to Actuarial in terms of understanding data patterns and business trends
    • Performance analysis of data and identification of corrective actions
    • Analyse and build statistical models for various sets of data on a regular basis to assist in determining business trends
    • Monitor results of all action plans implemented
    • Data quality control and data management
    • Develop automated reporting within in current constraints, given date programming knowledge
    • Drive IT logs and engagement
    • Primary analytical support to internal divisions (Risk Services and Broker Services)
    • Analysis of Regional profitability and growth

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Relevant IT/ Data Science Qualification
    • Insurance related studies recommended
    • Ability to work with various systems and integrate data across platforms in an automated manner
    • 5 years experience in data extraction, collation and automation, including data analytics
    • 5 to 10 years insurance experience, ideally in commercial insurance
    • Experience in leading a team
    • Knowledge of Guidewire, Business Objects, Qlikview, Qliksense, Newsstand, Microsoft Cognos, DHIC (DataHub InfoCenter)

    CALL CENTRE AGENT II

    The Insurance Consultant will focus on general policy administration of commercial business which includes the issue of new policies as well as amendments.

    • Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorized representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    • Execute policy maintenance specific amendments request
    • Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries
    • Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests
    • Apply and Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • Relevant insurance qualification will be an advantage
    • Minimum of 3 years commercial lines underwriting experience within a short term insurance environment. Knowledge regarding agricultural products will be an advantage
    • 60 commercial FAIS credits - Commercial Lines recommended
    • Experience in Agricultural commercial policy administration
