PURPOSE
This position exists to lead a team responsible for the selection, repair, maintenance and implementation of engineering systems, processes and equipment. The incumbent takes charge of operational excellence and ensures continuous improvement in engineering processes, costs, quality and plant/equipment performance in line with the Division strategy.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Management
- Understand the complete company’s strategic goals
- Support company SHEQ strategy with particular focus on engineering aspects
- Assist operations management in rolling-out Divisional maintenance strategy on mobile plant
- Collaborate with operations management in identifying improvements and growth opportunities
- Strategic alignment of maintenance, engineering standards and practices with industry norms, best practices and legislative framework
Operational Performance
- Ensure that maintenance on equipment is carried out economically
- Technical input to the maintenance budget for the Division, including capital items
- Ensure continuous improvement of reliability and availability of process equipment
- Provide engineering input into optimisation and/or expansion projects
- Manage engineering operations and capital projects within applicable budgets and schedules
- Provide input in the design and maintenance of safety procedures including risk assessment pertaining to maintenance of equipment
- Ensure adherence and compliance to company policies and procedures
Innovation Management
- Develop and maintain systems to track innovations across the business and the Division.
- Maintain constant surveillance of industry trends, technological innovations, and changes in customer requirements
- Proactively impact customer satisfaction requirements
- Contribute to the implementation of innovative strategies for the company to influence the overall growth, profitability and development of the business
Internal Customer Relations
- Share key insights, trends, best practices and engineering benchmarks with industry peers and in other parts of the business
- Facilitate common alignment of the engineering projects with operations teams
- Facilitate enabling processes between functions (e.g. Operations, Engineering, SHEQ, Human Resources and Finance)
- Ensure business alignment to standard operating model, business execution plans and any other initiatives or improvements
Maintenance Systems
- Evaluate existing systems, ensure continuous improvement to become best in class and improve overall effectiveness and sustainability of performance
- Ensure continuous work is aligned with maintenance strategy
- Ensure training and competency of maintenance system users
Reporting
- Ensure maintenance of up-to-date KPI tracking dashboards for maintenance systems
- Develop, review and maintain engineering performance tracking criteria
- Assist operations teams in honouring service level agreements with company’s clients
- Report on sites time usage statistics and initiate improvement plans
QUALIFICATIONS
- B-Tech or BSc in Engineering – Mechanical/Electrical
- Postgraduate qualification in business studies will be an added advantage
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC), Mines
EXPERIENCE
- Five years experience in maintenance/ engineering management
- Experience in developing and implementing integrated operational planning
- Developing training material for reports, Graduates and Apprentices
- Knowledge or experience of engineering maintenance management system
- Proven track record of implementing business improvement initiatives
- Experience in managing of costs and cost reduction projects

QUALIFICATIONS
- B-degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Professional registration (ECSA) will be an added advantage
- Business/management/leadership qualification will be an added advantage
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC), Mines
EXPERIENCE
- 8 – 12 years related experience
- Experience in developing and implementing integrated operational planning
- Proven track record of implementing business improvement initiatives
- Experience in managing of costs and cost reduction projects

Description
- The role is responsible to provide detailed project planning and management of strategic technological initiatives, advancements and projects within the Fraser Alexander Next Generation Solutions Division via the Special Projects Office (SPO). To drive development and innovation within the business inline with company strategy, evaluate and assure control environments, and provide research, analytical and technical support to the business and the Division. RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
- Oversee and conduct a lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing of assigned strategic projects in accordance with SPO project frameworksEnsuring management of the entire project scope, project team, resources, budgets, and the success of the projectCoordinate and manage external consultants, suppliers and developers in execution of projects
Solution Reporting
- Develop and implement business model and business plans for Next Generation Solution initiatives
- Deliver detailed progress reports on appointed strategic projects
- Communicating and providing project specific information to EXCO and/or relevant stakeholders
- Driving Next Generation Solution awareness in the business
- Driving marketing initiatives relating to Next Generation projects
Risk Identification and Management
- Identify the risks associated with Next Generation Solutions and develop solutions to engineer out these risks or to mitigate these
- Turning challenges and risks into strengths that provide a unique selling opportunity for the Next Generation Solutions
- Identify the controls and mitigations by which these risks are managed within the business and provide a full evaluation of the control environment
- Ongoing liaison with the technical and operational teams to implement new work practices
Innovative Engineering Solutions
- Industry trends, initiatives and opportunity awareness
- Research projects (UP/Wits/Other) – Project lead and management
- New equipment solutions – investigate, identify, R&D and operationalise
- New tailings deposition/placement solutions – investigate, define and operationalise
- Risk management solutions – best practice tools
- Marketing scoping – innovative solutions to market
- Commercial negotiations and formalization of innovative solutions with service providers, suppliers, consultants, etc

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with Honours (Civil, Geotechnical, Mechanical, Electronic or Mechatronic)
- Project Management qualification advantageous
EXPERIENCE
- 5 – 10 years’ experience
- International experience or exposure to industry leading solutions

PURPOSE
- Assist operations where an operator is needed to make the operating environment safer and more convenient by opening trenches and cleaning up areas where other equipment have difficulty operating.
RESPONSIBILITIES
