    Data Analyst - Bryanston

    Provide data analyst oversight and support

    • Managing master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
    • Managing users and user roles.
    • Processing confidential data and information according to guidelines.
    • Helping develop reports and analysis.
    • Managing and designing the reporting environment, including data sources and security
    • Supporting the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements.
    • Supporting initiatives for data integrity and normalization.
    • Assessing tests and implementing new or upgraded software and assisting with strategic decisions on new systems.
    • Generating reports from single or multiple systems.
    • Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports.
    • Evaluating changes and updates to source production systems.
    • Training end-users on new reports and dashboards.
    • Providing technical expertise in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.

    Act as a custodian for Business Processes

    • Act as the central repository for all EPPF data processes and change authority for changes to any data processes.
    • Liaise with process owners to determine the effectiveness and applicability of business processes.
    • Review actual behaviour and activity against mapped processes and record deviations.

    Engage in Business Requirement analyses

    • Attend the necessary forums to maintain awareness of current and future business requirements.
    • Determine business requirements and translate these into technical specifications.
    • Conduct feasibility studies prior to the development or acquisition of new applications systems and/or amendments to existing applications, ensuring that systems meet business requirements.
    • Establish commercial implications of application changes and make the appropriate recommendations, in adherence to EPPF commercial processes.
    • Build and maintain relationships with application service providers to ensure EPPF optimises value from system changes and additions.
    • Conduct cost savings analyses to ensure that cost savings from applications vendors are quantifiable and increase in relation to the frequency of application change.

    Project Management

    • Manage related projects through project lifecycle, from project initiation to end project review.
    • Undertake to monitor costs, timescales, and resources throughout.
    • Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.

    Requirements

    REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING

    • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.

    REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

    • At least 5 years job-related experience, preferably within an IT environment.
    • At least 2 years job related experience working with BigData platforms & technologies such Hadoop, Spark etc.
    • Experience with financial/investment systems advantageous.
    • Ability to analyse existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS 

    • In-depth knowledge of the BI environment.
    • In-depth knowledge of cloud based BI solutions.
    • Extensive knowledge of business practises and processes.
    • Knowledge of developing IT related business plan and motivation.
    • Strong data modelling skills.
    • Good proficiency in project management toolsets. 
    • Project lifecycle (SDLC) knowledge.

    Listed Equities Analyst - Bryanston

    PROVIDE SUPPORT IN PORTFOLIO MANDATE STRUCTURE AND STRATEGY FOR A SPECIFIC PORTFOLIO

    • Assist with research market analysis of potential listed equities investment opportunities.
    • Gather information by accessing market research, trends and statistics on which to base investment decisions.
    • Monitor effectiveness of investment decisions within portfolio to optimise investment returns.
    • Perform performance / risk-return analysis and provide recommendations to Portfolio Manager as and when required.
    • Assess and monitor investment portfolio risks and performance attributions.

    UPDATE LISTED EQUITY VALUATION MODEL

    • Construct and update quantitative/analytic models, conducting sensitive analysis.
    • Provide updated valuation models and earnings after results are published, in support of accurate financial reporting.
    • Maintain listed equities ranking model, monitoring that investment returns are above benchmark.

    PROVIDE SUPPORT WITH INDUSTRY SECTOR ANALYSIS

    • Analyse sector under coverage and companies positioning within industry, obtaining accurate investment information.
    • Benchmark performance across the industry, domestically and globally by accessing market research, trends and statistics.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with broker analyst companies and other industry specialists.

    SUPPORT PORTFOLIO MANAGER

    • Monitor and recommend changes to the current portfolio that reflects the mandate’s investment philosophy and process.
    • Maintain and implement applications which support financial risk management efforts and remain with risk budgeting limits (incl. tracking errors).

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree (major in Economics, Business, BSc or BEng).
    • Studying towards CFA or CA(SA) will be advantageous.
    • At least 4 - 5 years job-related experience.
    • Sound understanding of economic and investment theory and practices.
    • Portfolio Construction and Risk Management experience will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of legislation governing investments within portfolio.
    • Knowledge of Tax legislation.
    • Knowledge of financial practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of Industry developments relevant portfolio.
    • Knowledge of CFA Code of Conduct.

    Requirements

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS  

    • In-depth knowledge of legislation governing investments within portfolio
    • In-depth knowledge of Tax legislation
    • In-depth knowledge of financial practices and procedures
    • In-depth knowledge of Industry developments relevant portfolio
    • Knowledge of CFA Code of Conduct

    REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    • At least 6 years job-related experience.
    • Exposure in managing a portfolio will be advantageous
    • Experience in coaching of SAICA trainees or graduates will be advantageous
    • Bachelor’s Degree / major in economics, business, or finance preferred
    • Honours Degree / major in economics, business, or finance preferred.
    • CIPM, CFA or CA(SA) will be advantageous.
