    Psychosocial Specialist - Johannesburg

    The successful incumbent will be responsible for leading Anova’s psychosocial support and mental health programmes across supported districts. This is achieved through strategic leadership, skills development, stakeholder engagement and research. 

    Key duties and responsibilities: 

    Integration of mental health into Anova’s existing HIV-focussed programmes

    • Develop a mental health strategy for Anova and oversee implementation in line with PEPFAR/NSP requirements.
    • Identify, adapt and implement, through district teams, an existing model to ensure support of mental health is integrated into services at primary health care level (includes screening, support and referral)
    • Work closely with other HIV Specialists to ensure the mental health is well integrated into other programmes (e.g. case management, Youth Care Clubs etc)
    • Work closely with Psychosocial (PSS) TAs in each district to integrate mental health into services (including hiring and training a cadre of staff to provide mental health screening and support at PHCs)
    • Design standardised measurement/monitoring tools that are used by districts to report
    • Map and strengthen community-based organisations that can support clients with mental health issues. 

    Growth of the Anova Psychosocial and Mental Health Portfolios

    • Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Project in Northern Cape and Limpopo.
    • Oversee and advise on overall project direction and workplan development with the input of other relevant project advisors.
    • Support and line manage the Project Manager.
    • Attend funder and other relevant stakeholder meetings.
    • Oversee funder reporting on project progress and financial matters.
    • Contribute to research outputs from the project.
    • Identify and apply for other funding opportunities to expand Anova’s mental health portfolio. 

    Collaborate with psychosocial and mental health stakeholders

    • Lead the reporting and feedback on mental health to USAID and other relevant funders.
    • Identify and establish relationships with key DoH and other stakeholders (e.g. CBOs, religious groups. academic groups, traditional leaders, traditional healers) to work with within the mental health space.
    • Advocate for policy improvements that will facilitate better integration of mental health into chronic care Champion mental health integration into chronic care service delivery at National, Provincial and district levels by inputting into guidelines, policy and relevant meetings (Attend NDoH and USAID mental health and retention in care committees/TWGs).

    Coordinate and strengthen Anova’s Psychosocial Support (PSS) Programmes for improved adherence to ART in supported districts

    • Ensure there is a coordinated strategy at Anova of providing psychosocial support to clients at all life stages.
    • Facilitate alignment between and monitoring of Anova facility PSS interventions and the psychosocial components of the OVC and DREAMS programmes.
    • Work closely with PSS TAs to ensure implementation of the strategy.
    • Review and develop monitoring systems to allow upward reporting to funders and downward feedback to implementors.
    • Improve the coordination of facility and community psychosocial support through engagement with stakeholders and partners to ensure clients in need receive streamlined, uninterrupted support.
    • Input into Anova’s workplans, and report on PSS activities regularly as needed.
    • Provide or facilitate skills development and capacity building of Anova’s teams to better support clients to improve retention in care and viral load suppression.
    • Facilitate the use of programme data to guide implementation of the PSS programme by PSS TAs.

    Minimum qualifications and experience

    • Psychology or social work degree with post-graduate degree (MPH or other relevant).
    • 8 - 10 years - Previous experience working in HIV programming/public health programmes, preferably at PHC settings.
    • Experience working in donor-funded health programmes and with Department of Health.
    • Training and teaching experience.
    • Proven ability to write technical documents and compose presentations.
    • Visible part of relevant networks, technical working groups and committees.
    • Research experience advantageous.
    • Driver’s license and willingness to use own car.
    • Registered with the HPCSA (if relevant).

    Clinical Trainer - Johannesburg

    Key duties and responsibilities

    • Support DOH in planning, development, and provision of training for professional nurses, doctors, and other categories of staff on APC, IMCI, NIMART, TB and other training as planned
    • Conduct audit of clinical training need for all Anova supported sub districts and use findings to inform training plan
    • Design and implement a monitoring plan to evaluate the impact of the training provided on a quarterly basis.
    • Ensure SkillSmart & TQMS forms are completed, captured and submitted for each training
    • Support DOH, professional nurses, doctors are mentored on Nimart and that all logbooks are submitted for NIMART certification and competence
    • Engage with relevant stakeholders to establish working relationships (e.g. Regional training centre, DoH trainers, Trainers from other organisations, HAST co-ordinators, etc.)
    • Prepare training material, relevant documents, and logistics (attendance registers, handouts, manuals, catering etc.) in advanced before planned trainings.
    • Submit monthly report of trainings conducted to line manager
    • Issue notification of all upcoming trainings to RTC, managers as well as relevant coordinators to ensure nominations are received timeously

    Essential qualifications and experience

    • Postgraduate qualification as a Professional Nurse with Primary Health Care specialty (Nurse Clinician)
    • Registration as a professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
    • 4 years’ experience working in primary healthcare facilities in the public sector
    • Minimum 3 years' experience working in HIV/TB and related programmes
    • NIMART, IMCI and APC trained and certified as competent to work independently

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent facilitation & presentation skills
    • Ability to travel within Johannesburg /Sedibeng Health District

    Monitoring and Evaluation Officer - Cape Town

    • We are looking for various Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers to effectively lead and coordinate the implementation of M&E systems focused on data collection, analysis, and reporting of results within Anova APACE supported facilities. The M&E Officer will report to the M&E (Technical) Manager and work in close collaboration with relevant programmatic technical advisers, as well as counterparts to ensure that quality data are available to program teams to guide decision making.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Data Collection and Reporting Coordination:

    • Ensure that facility M&E data staff have the tools, access, and training necessary to perform their duties optimally. Problem-solve challenges
    • Engage facility managers and program teams on a weekly basis to discuss challenges with data collection, analysis, and reporting
    • Prepare and develop systematic and realistic facility M&E implementation plans that outline processes for the capturing of quantitative and qualitative data to report on project performance indicators, and with input from the M&E Manager finalise for approval by the Program Manager
    • Coordinate the implementation of baseline surveys
    • Review and adapt existing, or develop new, project reporting templates that facilitate the effective collection of data and aggregation of information
    • Compile data from all Anova projects ensuring data is at the agreed levels of quality standards
    • Maintain effective information databases for projects
    • Compile reports and verify data, validating the accuracy of reports generated from projects. prior to submission to donors on a quarterly and annual basis or as directed by the M&E Manager
    • Provide facility level M&E reports to the program on technical focus areas (i.e. key populations, AGYW, etc)

    Data Quality Improvement:

    • Conduct monthly data quality assessments/audits to identify data quality improvement and training needs
    • Develop facility data quality improvement project plans
    • Work closely with the Facility Managers, M&E Data Capturers, M&E Manager, and Technical Advisors to implement data collection and data quality improvement plans
    • Measure and report data quality improvement project progress and outcomes
    • Support the M&E Manager on regular data quality drives, setting targets to reduce data capturing and reporting mistakes
    • Provide supportive supervision on data entry and capturing processes to the M&E Data Collectors
    • Work alongside with clinical staff to ensure adequate completion of clinical stationery according to latest DoH SOP/Guides

    Data Analysing and Reporting for Facility and Program Performance Improvement

    • Support managers and advisors in the evaluation and documentation of qualitative and quantitative performance measures at quarterly and yearly intervals, following completion of implementation of projects
    • Investigate and resolve queries regarding reporting form all programs and activities
    • Regularly analyse data trends at facility level to identify patterns observed, preparing monthly reports to M&E Managers and facility leaders
    • Prepare high quality reports and disseminate findings to the program teams to support evidence-based decision making relating to activities and focus areas

    Support to Program stakeholders (DOH, CoCT, other Health stakeholders)

    • Collaborate with the M&E Manager to resolve any difficulties with program activities and program compliance
    • Contribute to the development of guidelines and standards for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all project interventions
    • Ensure adherence and compliance with relevant norms and policies
    • Actively identify successful activities and interventions and working with the M&E Manager, develop lessons learnt and document these
    • Organise and coordinate regular lessons learnt workshops to contribute to knowledge sharing and improved data driven decision-making
    • Facilitate implementation of key community capacity building initiatives to ensure community-based monitoring and evaluation

     Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

    • A minimum of a 3-year Diploma/Bachelor’ degree in development related subjects (preferable)
    • Or A minimum 3 years’ experience in monitoring and evaluation of development programs
    • A valid Driver's License is preferred.
    • Good knowledge of programme and Project Cycle Management and Development.
    • Communication and analytical skills
    • Exposure to at least one of the health information System used in the COCT (PREHMIS, Health Systems, PHCIS)
    • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power point: SPSS Ms Access, STATA, Excel, or other statistical software package desired
