    Secretary (post level 12): Department Urban and Regional Planning

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Responsible for general office administration and operations including but not limited to:
    • Provide administrative support and secretarial services to the department and line manager.
    • Welcome and direct visitors and students to the appropriate staff members.
    • Receive parcels from courier and other services.
    • Receive, direct and relay telephone calls and messages.
    • Handle general enquiries.
    • Dispatch parcels/courier services.
    • Scrutinise and record the incoming mail and categorise it into priority of urgency.
    • File finance and HR related documents.
    • Responsible for meeting administration.
    • Responsible for departmental events: Catering, transport, preparation of venue.
    • Responsible for travel and accommodation arrangements for external examiners/moderators, lecturers, Post Docs and PhD students.
    • Assist with Travel Insurance.
    • Control the stock register.
    • Assist with typing as requested from lecturers from time to time.
    • Follow-up of previous correspondence and pass items to line manager to follow-up.
    • Request and appraise quotations.
    • Capture requisitions for outstanding vendors and approve requisitions (internal e.g., Paintwork, plumbers, etc)
    • Receive Purchase Orders from provisioning/finances and provide it to the suppliers.
    • Process invoices for payments of service providers.
    • Create and distributes invoices.
    • Capture and manage employee claims.
    • Capture, approve, report and follow up on job requests for maintenance and repairs where necessary.
    • Purchase and order office supplies, stationery and equipment.
    • Manage and administer the asset register.
    • Assist with the recordkeeping of leave applications.
    • Assist with Special leave applications for overseas.
    • Assist and manage the administration of new appointments within the Department.
    • Monitor the submission of study guides, assignments and tests for module files.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Grade 12 on NQF Level 4. 
    • One (1) year’s relevant working experience relating to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendations:

    • Experience within the higher-education environment.
    • Knowledge of university systems, policies, procedures.

    Associate Professor: Department of Psychology

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Psychology.
    • Provide study guidance and supervision to final year and postgraduate students.
    • Provide clinical supervision to students in the Applied Master’s Programme.
    • Initiate and conduct high-level research and sustain quality research outputs.
    • Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for the department.
    • Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the department and faculty.
    • Participate in community engagement initiatives where possible.
    • Recruit senior students for postgraduate study.
    • Perform organisational and administrative duties. 

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Doctoral Degree on NQF level 10 in Psychology.
    • Three (3) years registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)  as a Clinical Psychologist.
    • An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status / research publication profile.
    • Proven experience in the research supervision of master’s students.
    • Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Psychology.
    • Experience as external assessor for postgraduate students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers/posters at national scholarly conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Act as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
    • Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Recommendations:

    • Lecturing experience in Psychology at a tertiary institution.
    • A good scholarly record.
    • The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms.
    • Experience in statistical packages (SPSS/MPLus).
    • Proven experience in the research supervision of doctoral students.
    • Evidence of successfully graduated master’s students.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers/posters at international scholarly conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Expertise within child, adolescent, and adult assessments and psychotherapeutic 
    • interventions is a requirement.

    Programme Director: PGCE

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Assist in designing and redesigning the curriculum by involving all relevant stakeholders. 
    • Assist in developing new learning programmes in consultation with industry and other stakeholders. 
    • Assist in taking leadership of the development of short learning programmes in the department. 
    • Assist in developing and managing the operational plan of the programme. 
    • Assist in providing general leadership and ensure academic coherence across all various modules of the programme. 
    • Be responsible for financial management (annual budgeting, financial planning, allocation of funds, and financial control) and deployment of the resources needed for maximum benefit to the delivery of the programme with regards, specifically, to student material funds in liaison with the Teaching and Learning Manager.
    • Motivate and lead employees in the programme to achieve transformation within the programme and the institution. 
    • Ensure that the activities of the programme are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks of the University. 
    • Be responsible for planning student evaluation throughout the year, book venues and secure an external evaluator. 
    • Collect and review, in consultation with the Teaching and Learning Manager, all applications. 
    • Follow up and respond to all applications to the programme. 
    • Manage the programme’s general email. 
    • Provide top-quality, research-informed facilitation of learning to ensure practice-based learning and improvement. 
    • Assist in assuming responsibility for the academic quality of the programme. 
    •  Assist in managing the circulation processes of the programme. 
    • Assist in managing academic administration. 
    • Scholarship of high quality and specialised expertise. 
    • Conduct own research. 
    • Provide academic advice in terms of academic inquiries, amendments of yearbooks, schedules, timetables, etc. 
    • Implement applicable governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks of the University. 

    Inherent requirements:

    • A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Education in the relevant field.
