    PYEI Intern (40 hours per week) (contract appointment: 6 months)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •    Provide administrative support. 
    •    Assist in co-ordinating projects.
    •    Organise the events calendar of the GEAD office.
    •    Co-ordinate the volunteers. 
    •    Record and take minutes. 
    •    Attend projects rolled out by the office. 
    •    Liaise with Student bodies. 

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    •    A Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma / B.Tech degree / Postgraduate Certificate on NQF level 7 in Gender Studies or Industrial Psychology.
    •    Graduates between the ages of 18 and 35.
    •    Not studying full time, classes preferably after hours.
    •    Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.

    Recommendations:

    •    Knowledgeable in gender-related matters.
    •    Valid driver’s license.

    The following criteria apply to the selection of candidates:

    •    Have not participated in any leadership / internship programme.
    •    Willing to sign a leadership / internship agreement with the UFS.

    Subject Head (contract appointment: 5 years)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •    Provide academic leadership by creating and executing strategies to establish the department as a leader in the field of English.
    •    To strengthen and maintain ties with the Bloemfontein branch of the English Department.
    •    Contribute to the overall leadership in the faculty.
    •    Active participation and involvement in applicable Faculty and UFS management structures.
    •    Contribute to initiate, formulate and implement a visionary academic strategy for the department of English.
    •    Create and maintain a visionary research strategy for the department.
    •    Build an effective team of scholars.
    •    Encourage and actively support academic staff members to apply for external research and other grants.

    Inherent requirements:

    •  A PhD in English on NQF level 10.
    •  Any full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of English at the University of the Free State.

    Recommendations:

    •    A proven record of accomplishment of academic research outputs.
    •    A record of accomplishment in postgraduate supervision.
    •    Evidence of management and leadership skills/abilities.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Conduct high-quality research, publish in accredited journals, and deliver quality research outputs in line with the faculty's research strategy.
    • Provide supervision to postgraduate students, namely Honours, Masters, PhD students, and professional industrial psychology interns.
    • Provide leadership in pursuit of the department and faculty strategic plan with regard to research, teaching, engaged scholarship and leadership and administration.
    • Perform academic administration pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate subjects – this may include typing, setting, and marking all question papers and memorandums, recording marks and handling student complaints.
    • Serve as a member of various academic committees and perform any other tasks allocated by the Dean and head of the department.
    • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with relevant research, civil society, government, industry, and professional organisations.
    • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.

    Inherent requirements:

    Lecturer:

    • A relevant PhD on NQF level 10 in Industrial Psychology or Human Resources (For a permanent appointment).
    • Relevant Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology/Human Resource Management (Contract appointment: 5 years, during which a PhD on NQF level 10 must be obtained to be converted into a permanent appointment).
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Industrial Psychologist.
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
    • Registered for a PhD that is relevant to the field of Industrial Psychology/ Human Resource Management
    • Evidence of professional supervision of intern industrial psychologists.
    • Proven experience in poster or oral presentation at conferences and publication of articles.
    • Excellent research record as demonstrated in the applicant’s completed master’s or PhD studies.
    • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

    Senior Lecturer:

    • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF level ten (10) in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management.
    • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of master’s, PhD students and industrial psychology interns.
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Industrial Psychologist.
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
    • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
    • Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Associate Professor:

    • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF level ten (10) in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management.
    • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of master’s, PhD students and industrial psychology interns.
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Industrial Psychologist.
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
    • Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national and international conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Experience on the editorial board of a scholarly journal
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
    • An NRF rating of Y1, Y2, or C3 or equivalent status.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in accredited national and international journals.
    • Proven service experience as an active member of a national or international scholarly society, committee, or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Recommendations:

    • Proven lecturing experience in the Higher Education environment.
    • Evidence of professional supervision of intern industrial psychologists.
    • Proven experience in presenting Industrial Psychology modules such as Research Methodology, Employee Wellness and Labour Relations.
    • Proficiency in computer skills, e.g., MS word, excel, PowerPoint.
    • Proven skills in data analysis using IBM SPSS, AMOS, PLS.
    • Good command of the English language.
    • Lecturer should enroll for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.

    Curriculum, Religion and Politics in post-colonial Africa Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2023

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Conduct innovative research in the following areas: Teacher Education, Psychology of Education Curriculum across borders, Politics and Religion 
    • Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
    • The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    • Do limited teaching in the Programmes for Education Foundations where appropriate.
    • Provide limited supervision and/or co-supervision at Honours, Master’s and/or Doctoral level where appropriate.
    • Ability to generate third stream income.
    • Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the department of Education Foundations
    • The successful candidate will be required to conduct innovative research and obtain evidence- based empirical data on current developments in Curriculum Studies, and Psychology of Education within the South African context.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    • Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State.
    • Graduated with a PhD degree in Social Science, Educational Psychology, Curriculum Studies, Religious Education or Curriculum and Instruction within the last 5 years.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
    • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to Bloemfontein for the duration of the fellowship.

    • Provide first-line support for ICT-related queries to library staff via telephone, email, or face-to-face.
    • Establish a good working relationship with staff, students, professionals, and stakeholders.
    • Resolve computer-related issues and provide excellent customer service to both staff, students, and researchers.
    • Work continuously on allocated operational tasks until completion.
    • Test and evaluate new technology in the library.
    • Create and maintain user and administrative guides.
    • Transfer digital tools and library systems knowledge to the staff and students through virtual training, videos, and webinars.
    • Responsible for access management of web applications and library information systems (e.g., Sierra)
    • Create webpage and maintain the library website, Libguides and Library Intranet.
    • Install and configure computer systems and solve technical and application problems.
    • Allocate and configure new and current ICT equipment.
    • Keep record of all IT equipment present in the client computing environment.
    • Provide leadership and oversight to our growing Makerspace program.
    • Ensure processes are maintained to safeguard against data loss and to provide business confidence and assurance in data integrity.
    • Participate in a range of activities and projects in for Library ICT, Digital Scholarship Center and Makerspace.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications on NQF level 7 in Information Communication and Technology or (Postgraduate Diploma on NQF Level 8 in Computer Science).
    • Graduates between the ages of 18 and 35.
