    Senior Clerk: Libraries

    REF: CP/CS/LS 35

    Requirements: 

    • Grade 12 with Minimum 2-years relevant experience 
    • Computer Literate – Excel, Word and Outlook. 
    • A valid driver’s license. Proficient in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape Other 

    Requirements:

    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills 
    • Ability to work accurately under pressure 
    • Excellent communication and telephone skills 
    • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures 
    • The successful incumbent will report to the Manager Library Services 

    Please note a practical competency assessment and written test will be conducted as part of the interview. 

    Responsibilities/Duties: 

    • Assist with general and specialized Library and administrative duties for the library section. 
    • Co-ordinate the Library acquisition accounts 
    • Asset Management.

    Library Assistants

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • Grade 12 or NQF level 4 with Minimum 1 year Public/School Library experience 
    • Computer literacy in MS Office applications including Excel and Outlook.

    Library Aid/Cleaners

    REF: CP/CS/LS/40 + 16

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • Grade 10 6-month’s domestic cleaning work experience. 

    Other Requirements: 

    • Customer orientated 
    • Able to perform cleaning duties 
    • mend books 
    • be able to work in a team and on his/her own 
    • Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (English, Afrikaans, Xhosa). 

    Responsibilities/Duties:

    ICT Cadet – Library Services

    REF: CP/CS/LS 04

    Requirements: 

    • Grade 12 (Matric) 
    • NQF level 4 Information Technology Certificate or Diploma (NQF4) 
    • Minimum of 1 years related experience 
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft based operating systems and Outlook 
    • A valid driver’s license. 

    Other Requirements: 

    • Ability to work under pressure 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills 
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape. Experience with SLIMS library Software program 
    • Information Retrieval skills

    The successful incumbent will report to the Manager Library Services 

    Responsibilities/Duties: 

    •  Assist library users with undertaking various electronic information searches 
    • Orientate and teach library users on use of e-mail, production of electronic documents and other IT programmes 
    • Monitor workstation usage by library users and of all electronics in the library 
    •  Assist with other Library assistant duties in the library. 
    • Co-ordinate and conduct basic computer training courses for staff and Patrons based on relevant topics and functionalities 
    • Ensure that ICT hardware, software and network connectivity are maintained Perform technical support in the library
    •  Assist with web design and marketing library programmes and resources.

    Senior Librarians

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • Grade 12 and B Bibil degree or B degree with postgraduate LIS diploma or B Inf. Honours 
    • Minimum 3 years Public/School Library experience including 2 years library management experience 
    • Computer literacy in MS Office applications including Excel and Outlook 
    •  A valid driver’s license. 
    • Professional Librarian membership of LIASA 

    Other Requirements: 

    • Professional skills (collection development, excellent book and general knowledge, classification, cataloguing, development and execution of promotion and outreach programs development) 
    • Interpersonal skills

    •  IT skills 
    •  Ability to manage physical and digital collections 
    •  Conflict handling skills
    •  Advocacy skills The successful incumbent will report to the Manager Library Services. 

    Responsibilities/Duties: 

    • Assist the public in accessing the library’s resources to satisfy their information needs and reference enquiries 
    •  Supervision and maintenance of stock, buildings and grounds as well as a safe library environment 
    •  Provide professional Library support functions 
    • Control outreach, marketing extension activities and educational programmes 
    •  Assist with library marketing programs 
    • Manage personnel and performance 
    •  Staff training and skills development 
    •  Collection development
    • Financial management. 

    Please note: 

    • Preference will be given to WCO24 residents 
    •  a practical competency assessment and written test will be conducted as part of the interview.
