    Project Manager: Digital Distribution

    What will you do?

    • This career opportunity is available at SHA Risk Specialists a division of Santam for a Project Manager: Digital Distribution, who will be based in Johannesburg: Illovo.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Project Management

    • Deep understanding of project management methods, techniques and tools.
    • Deep understanding of agile ways of working, techniques and tools.
    • Deep understanding of the system development lifecycle and frameworks for business solution delivery. Incudes waterfall, iterative and agile methods.
    • Understands architectural considerations in order to effectively factor them into planning, decisions and recommendations and to effectively communicate.
    • Familiarity with change management disciplines including stakeholder management, communication and business readiness.

    Sprints:

    • Prepare for and manage scheduling of regular meetings such as Sprint Review, Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospectives and Project Retrospectives.
    • Calculates sprint point and allocation over upcoming sprints.
    • Manages developers sprint tasks & velocity.
    • Reviews stand-up feedback and actions blockers &
    • dragging tasks.    
    • Estimating and/or sizing of work collaboratively
    • Iteration and frequent releasing of production-ready code
    • Identify and escalate potential team issues
    • Project Definition, Inception and Kick-off (kick-off sessions; definition of charter; facilitate definition of requirements and user stories).
    • Project Planning (scoping, conceptual sprint planning and development; project and work stream definition; sizing and estimating; sprint, release and milestone management).
    • Project Financial and Cost management (accurate budgeting, actuals tracking, forecast projections, monitoring and control of expenses, invoicing and payment).
    • Project Time and Cost management (budget definition, monitoring and control; time recording and costing; Invoicing and payments; cost containment).
    • Managing Project Scope (understanding project scope and product backlog; monitoring scope).
    • Project level Risk, Issue and Decision management (including Dependency management and escalation).

    Business to Business Liaison

    • Communicate resourcing and timelines with business head regularly
    • Manage Business Head’s expectations around delivery
    • Work with our suppliers and partners to ensure that timelines are adequately met and that budget is utilised appropriately. 
    • Ensure requirements are fleshed out from client BA and liaise with development
    • team.
    • Assist with Business case for Business Head
    • Identifying opportunities for growth and escalating to the Business Head
    • Manage change in accordance with the change control process.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    General Administration

    • Project Reporting (reporting on status, financials, schedule, risk, blockers and issues, quality; reporting on metrics including burn up/down charts, team velocity; updating Agile/PMC reporting and management tools).
    • Defining and implementing the project’s Governance framework (review and sign-offs, decision-making, steerco management, change control and content review, management of tolerances, closure and lessons learned).
    • Quality Management (ensuring projects deliverables meet the requirements and the appropriate quality. Includes ceremonies such as: team retrospectives, attending Scrum-of-Scrum sessions, managing dependencies, blockers/ impediments and resourcing).
    • Project Success management (agree and regularly review project measures of success ensuring projects deliverables meet the programme requirements and the appropriate quality).
    • Support implementation of the Agile way of working. Adherence to the Agile framework, governance, standards for reporting and Tools (JIRA, Confluence).

    Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
    • Ideal: BSci Computer Science plus Scrum master certification
    • Preferably 5 years + relevant experience in Software development/ asset management/ insurance / digital agency

    Technical Manager

    Job Description

    • The position calls for a person who will provide technical underwriting expertise to assist the Regional Manager and Relationship Managers in managing their broker relationships at both a strategic and operational level with a clear focus on growth, profitability and efficiency in line with the Broker Services and Santam Commercial and Personal objectives.
    • The Technical Manager provides technical underwriting support for the Relationship managers and enables quicker decision-making when engaging with our intermediaries for new business quotes on large risks, renewals and other technical queries.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Provide technical underwriting expertise and advice for all Classes of Insurance.
    • Assist Relationship Managers in explaining complex underwriting principles and decisions to intermediaries.
    • Balance growth and profit when making decisions by considering the supporting business and regional strategy.
    • Analyse profitability of multi-claimants or renewal of individual policies and recommend corrective actions to Regional Managers and Relationship Managers.
    • Discuss proposed amendments to pricing models and new covers with Specialist Underwriters.
    • Manage: prepare (exception) complex and high value quotes and policy conversions.
    • When necessary, discuss and explain Risk Reduction Requirements (RRR) from survey reports and negotiate with brokers to obtain buy-in: escalate queries only if unable to resolve to Specialist Underwriters. 
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines

    Requirements

    • Qualifications
    • Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) qualification 
    • Higher Certificate in Insurance or equivalent 
    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma (advantageous) 
    • Driver’s licence (requirement)
    • FAIS compliance is a business requirement.
    • Regulatory Examinations (RE) qualification

    Experience

    • 3 - 5 years’ experience working in a commercial underwriting department assessing risks, determining pricing and terms across all classes of insurance (Property, Casualty and Motor) 
    • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – intermediated proficiency levels) 

    Knowledge

    • Thorough Personal and Commercial Lines technical, product and wording knowledge
    • Working knowledge of Re-Insurance is and Motor Fleet underwriting
