    Manager: Recoveries & Liabilities

    WHAT WILL YOU DO

    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for a department that deals with third party subrogation recoveries and liability claims arising primarily from motor vehicle accidents. This role will include managing, supporting, and developing a team of people to ensure superior service delivery and quality of work. In addition, the incumbent will manage individuals within the team, manage the financial performance and monitor process compliance (essentially overseeing that the key performance indicator levels are acceptable for their team).

    Head Surveyor

    What will you do?

    • This career opportunity is available at Santam Commercial Underwriting, Survey Department for a Head Surveyor based on Cape Town.
    • The Head Surveyor is tasked with leading s regional survey team as well as assessing risk while applying technical knowledge.     • The incumbent must be able to work independently and to mentor staff to enable them to assess risks according to Santam’s and National standards.  This position is a leadership as well as operational role which oversees a regional team, conducts surveys, provide on the job training, and do quality reviews and will work within the prescribed parameters of the role and the National survey manager.
    • This role will have a consulting function where the head surveyor will be called upon to consult on risks and to provide advice to Surveyors, Underwriters, Relationship managers, technical managers, Brokers and Clients regarding the risk and alternatives to the risk reduction requirements.

    Leadership/People Management:

    • Mentor Surveyors to provide improved survey reports and upskilling staff in the understanding of the various risks and legislation and standards.

    Stakeholders:

    • The Head Surveyor will have complete independent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.  Interactions will vary from negotiation, to driving change, handling queries, and mentoring and training internal and external stakeholders.
    • Head surveyor may interact from a consultant capacity, to providing insight and guidance into policy, and training manuals, as well as provide feedback and comment on wordings and risk management protocols and ways of implementation
    • Engage with internal and external stake holders (Broker Distribution, Operations etc.) and to get buy-in and understanding of our need to survey risks and ensure effective execution of survey processes and provide appropriate advice as required.
    • Provide surveying guidance and support to all Santam Group companies including MiWay, SEM, Namibia and Specialist business as required.

    General:

    Qualifications and Experience

    • 10+years of risk surveying or related experience
    • Matric and Fire Service Qualification, Technical Engineering Degree or Diploma, or relevant qualification.

    Head: Financial Risk Management

    What will you do?

    • Santam’s Risk Office has a position available for a Head: Financial Risk Management. This position is based at our Head Office in Bellville and will report to the Chief Risk Officer of the Santam Group.
    • The financial risk management function performs its duties as set out in the FRM charter, which includes technical provisions, capital requirements, asset allocation, reinsurance arrangements and compliance with related regulatory reporting requirements.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Developing and maintaining Santam’s internal model. 

    • Conduct the Santam Ltd and Santam Group own risk and solvency assessment (ORSA) process and produce the ORSA report.
    • Monitor Santam’s performance with respect to its financial risk appetite criteria. 
    • Calculate the expected return on risk adjusted capital and the underwriting margins required to achieve the target return. 
    • Determine the optimal level and structure of Santam’s capital base. 
    • Provide input into Santam’s investment strategy and the appropriate use of derivative structures.

    What will you do?

    • The Santam Direct contact centre has positions available for a Performance Enhancement Coach. These opportunities are available within the Sales department based in Centurion.

    Key Responsibilities

    Non Motor Field Assessor

    WHAT WILL YOU DO

    • The successful candidate will determine the quantum and merit of segmented non-motor claims by performing investigations, verifying the description of the event with the loss, negotiating with (client, intermediary and service providers) and settlement of claims within a delegated threshold and according to contract conditions.

    Motor Wreck Administration Manager

    WHAT WILL YOU DO

    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for leading a team of Motor Wreck Administrators that are affiliated to the different motor claims regions, providing senior management assurance of adhering to claims philosophy, claims policy, standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory compliance and adherence.

    What will you do?

    • Under general direction, researches, collates, records and examines coverage information to make highly complex short term claim settlement determinations. Within company guidelines, approves or denies payment. May assist in training lower level Claims Clerks.

    Manager: Corporate Legal Services

    What will you do?

    • A position for a Senior Legal Advisor exists in the Corporate Legal Services team, based at Santam Sandton or Tyger Valley, Cape Town.
    • The purpose of the role is to render legal support and solution services to the Santam Limited Group, taking into account commercial demands and business imperatives.

    Qualification

    • The minimum formal qualification for this job is a LLB university degree and admittance as a practising attorney or advocate in the High Court of South Africa.

    Underwriting Clerk: Marine

    What will you do?

    • A position has become available within Santam Marine for an Underwriting Clerk and will be based in Cape Town.

    Underwriting:

    • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of existing and new business, which may be complex in nature, including all tasks associated therewith but not limited Underwriting Governance which includes detailed risk evaluation and assessment, coverage and exposure analysis, detailed claims analysis and wording review & negotiations within underwriting authority.
