    Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer In The Department Of Primary And Early Childhood Education

    Main Objectives

    All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), community engagement, and professional involvement in their field beyond the university, recognizing differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level.

    In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning, research, professional involvement in the field, and community engagement, as well as to contribute towards the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.

    The Requirements

    Senior Lecturer:
    A PhD in Education with research and at least three years of primary school teaching and/or primary teacher education experience.

    • Considerable teaching experience and research in one of the following: Mathematics Education, Life Skills Education, or Language Education (IsiXhosa).
    • Teaching experience in one of the following areas: Education Studies, Psychology in Education, Sociology in Education, Philosophy in Education, Curriculum, and Pedagogy would be an advantage.
    • Research and experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education would be advantageous.
    • Research supervision of at least Masters degrees.
    • Emerging national research profile in the field of primary education.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles

    Lecturer:

    A Master of Education with at least three years of primary school teaching experience. Progress toward a PhD would be an advantage.

    • Teaching experience in one of the following: Mathematics Education, Life Skills Education, or Language Education (IsiXhosa).
    • Tutoring and facilitation experience in a Higher Education Institution or other teacher education institution would be an advantage.
    • An interest in teaching in one of the following areas: Education Studies, Psychology in Education, Sociology in Education, Philosophy in Education, Curriculum, and Pedagogy.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer /Associate Professor / Professor In Zoology And Entomology

    Main Objectives

This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty, and institutional levels.

    The Requirements
    Lecturer:

    • At least a PhD in Marine Biology or a cognate discipline
    • Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required. Some teaching experience is an added advantage.
    • Ability to teach in some of the following disciplinary areas: physical/biological oceanography, ecophysiology, evolutionary biology, ecology, biological modelling, cell biology, statistics in biology
    • Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.
    • Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, work experiences.

    Senior Lecturer:

    Senior Technical Officer (Labs) (Grade 10)

    Main Objectives

    To ensure the smooth running of the Zoology and Entomology laboratory support section of the department and to provide a technical and administrative service to the academic staff and students of the department of Zoology & Entomology and the Faculty of Science.

    The Requirements
    Bachelor of Science in Entomology or a related Bio-Science qualification plus approximately 2 years’ relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Previous experience in a scientific laboratory and use of laboratory equipment (e.g. pH meters, balances, microscopes).
    • Previous experience in related biological fields and a basic knowledge of chemistry will be an advantage.

    Associate Professor In The Department Of Primary And Early Childhood Education

    Chief Technical Officer (Grade 13)

    Main Objectives

     The purpose of this role is to oversee all the technical functions of the Department of Chemistry, including running of chemical stores, running of undergraduate laboratories, instrument maintenance, laboratory maintenance, and to provide technical support.

    The Requirements
    A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical qualification plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Appropriate technical experience/certification (computer-based instrument repair, troubleshooting)
