    Old Mutual Property - CFO

    Job Description

    A vacancy has arisen for a Finance Manager for Old Mutual Property also known as Old Mutual Real Estate Holdings Company (OMREHC) (Pty) Ltd.  This role has responsibility for a significant business unit, function or segment, defining and implementing financial strategy in the unit/ function/ segment, and ensuring the ongoing financial soundness and profitability of the unit/ function/ segment. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through other managers and their teams, over periods of 1 to 2 years.

    •    Responsible for the Financial Strategy and implementation thereof for OMREHC
    •     Managing the financial accounting for OMREHC which includes and is not limited to:  
    • 15 entities that needs to be consolidated
    • Various sub-consolidations
    • Annual financial statements
    • Tax returns (provisional and final) for 7 entities
    • Quarterly submissions on HFM
    •     Accountable for OMREHC’s management accounts - continuous monitoring of the annual budget and ensure that revenue targets are met
    •     Managing complex transactions in the private equity and real estate markets
    •     Management of OM direct offshore assets - Two Rivers and India
    •     Accountable for OMP’s Debt and treasury management
    •     Board representation
    •     Capital raising from external clients 
    •     Assess long-term property strategy and identify opportunities for optimisation
    •     Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements
    •     Build trust relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important shareholders
    •     Give strategic advice and report results and findings to committee and board members

    Actuarial Expert - Group Reporting - Johannesburg

    Job Description

    • Old Mutual’s roots are in insurance and actuaries continue to be a critical talent pool for us. In fact, we are one of the largest communities of actuaries in South Africa, and we continue to grow this capability across the African continent. As a key component of our journey to build a world class team of actuaries, we have an exciting opportunity to join the Group Actuarial team.
    • This team is part of the Old Mutual Group Finance division, reporting directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer. The team operates and provides exposure across all the businesses in Old Mutual including the various jurisdictions. 
    • The team has a unique opportunity available for a nearly/newly qualified actuary, to gain unique experience in the inner workings of a complex financial services group. This role will support the Actuarial Manager responsible for financial reporting on an IFRS and MCEV basis. The work will initially focus on production with exposure to adhoc/ project work.
    • The role will build networks across the wider Group, which will assist with future career development as part of Old Mutual’s actuarial rotation programme.  
    • The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.

    Key Result Areas:

    • Financial reporting – Support the financial reporting team during reporting cycles to ensure that valuation results are produced accurately, within agreed deadlines and with appropriate supporting commentary. 
    • Continuous improvements – Enhancements of models and processes that produce IFRS/FSV and MCEV reporting. 
    • IFRS 17 implementation - Participation in the segment’s involvement in the IFRS 17 project and the transition of reporting into standard production. 
    • Ad-hoc/Project work – Assist with ad hoc requests from the wider business (e.g. 
    • product owners, other finance areas).

    Skills, Qualifications & Experience required:

    • Nearly or newly qualified Actuary 
    • At least 4 year’s actuarial experience in life insurance 
    • Strong technical financial understanding of life insurance products
    • Strong detail orientation coupled with the ability to see the “big picture”
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Motivated self-starter who shows initiative, is proactive, looks for ways to improve
    • Able to complete tasks within agreed timelines and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
    • Ability to plan and prioritise
    • Willing to learn and grow
    • High level of accountability

    The incumbent will have an added advantage if he/she has the set skills listed below

    • Previous valuation experience will be an advantage
    • Exposure to group consolidation and accounting reporting process

    Senior Data Engineer

    Job Description

    • Old Mutual is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will design and implement scalable and robust processes to support the data engineering capability. This role will be responsible for implementing and supporting large-scale data ecosystems across the Group. This thought leader will use best practices in cloud engineering, data management and data storage to continue our drive to optimize the way that data is stored, consumed and ultimately democratized. The incumbent will also collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation with use of the Data Engineering practices to facilitate the improvement in the way that data is stored and consumed.
    • Design and implement scalable and robust processes for ingesting and transforming complex datasets.
    • Designs, develops, constructs, maintains and supports data pipelines for ETL from a multitude of sources.
    • Creates blueprints for data management systems to centralize, protect, and maintain data sources.
    • Focused on data stewardship and curation, the data engineer enables the data scientist to run their models and analyses to achieve the desired business outcomes
    • Ingest large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
    • Enable the business to solve the problem of working with large volumes of data in diverse formats, and in doing so, enable innovative solutions.
    • Design and build bulk and delta data lift patterns for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
    • Ensure that all data solutions support the organisation’s cloud strategy and aligns to the data achitecture and governance including implementation of these data governance practices.

    • Work with various stakeholders across the organisation to understand data requirements and apply deep technical knowledge of data management to solve key business problems.
    • Provide specialised support in the operational environment with all relevant support teams for data services.

    • Create and maintain functional requirements, system process and system specifications in support of data architecture and detailed design specifications for current and future designs.
    • Support test and deployment of new services and features.

    ROLE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Matric, with a degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Engineering.
    • 5+ years of data engineering experience 
    • 5+ years of experience with any data warehouse technical architectures, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytics tools including , but not limited to , any of the following combinations (1) SSIS and SSRS,  (2) ETL Frameworks, (3) Data conformance, (4) Cacheing, (5) Spark (6) AWS data builds
    • Essential skills Glue, EMR, S3, EC2
    • Matllion and RedShift a bonus
    • The candidate having DBA ability and knowledge across at least 2 platforms (example: TSQL, SAS, PSQL, IBM VSAM, DynamoDB and DB2) will also be beneficial.
    • Tends towards Full-Stack engineer with experience across a broad spectrum of technology domains, technologies and Engineering practices
    • Highly Proficient in at least one of Python, Java, C/C++ or similar
    • Should be Proficient in bash/ksh, perl, SQL
    • Experience with R, AWS, XML, json, cron

    Contractual Drafter

    Job Description

    Responsible for the drafting of contracts for corporate products, such as risk policies, endorsements and annexures that are legally sound, accurate and meet the needs of the stakeholders. This includes:

    Drafting of production documents;

    • Consulting with product owners and legal and business experts to establish the basis for the contractual documentation.
    • Interpret the contents of contracts relating to fund and corporate business.
    • Drafting of client documentation for corporate products and ensuring that contracts drafted -

    Meet the requirements of legislation;

    • Drafting of complex, customised client contracts that deviate from the standard templates.

    • Regular liaison with brokers, consultants, legal advisers and other experts to clarify and resolve issues.

    • With the assistance of the legal advisers, keeping abreast of changes in legislation that could impact client documentation.
    • May need to train other drafters and check documents.
    • Interpret the contents of the contracts relating to the retirement fund and group employee benefits business.

    Requirements
