    Senior Specialist - Cyber Security Design and Engineering Technology Information

     

    Mission/Core purpose of the Job

    • To design client-specific cyber security solutions that can detect and prevent cyber attacks. To provide second line technical support in the implementation of response plans to cyber events, known and unknown threats, security risks and vulnerabilities, across the security platforms within Technology B2B Centre of Excellence (CoE).

    Context (Global influences, environmental / industry demands, organisational mission etc.)

    • The MTN Group strategy – Ambition 2025 – is based on 10 main pillars, including the Platforms one.
    • Based on that, an increased focus is required on Enterprise ICT services and platforms across all MTN Operating Companies.
    • In order to accelerate on this stream, MTN Group ExCo has decided to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to those services.
    • This is not far from what is happening in other Telco groups, like Telefonica or Vodafone.
    • The current allocation has been selected among few options and has been approved from the Executive Steerco that is supervising the programme with the participation of Group and SA Exec’s
    • MTN South Africa is establishing a dedicated Technology function to support the MTN Converged ICT services ambitions.
    • It has been agreed that the existing Technology support for the Group Elevated Multinational accounts will be housed within the Enterprise CoE with the Operations, Service Management, Incident and problem management being ring fenced into a dedicated function within Technology B2B CoE organisation.

    Key Deliverables

    Solutions Delivery

    • Develop architecture and standards for Cyber Security Services platform infrastructures in line with the architectural blueprints and enterprise business plan.
    • Develop and facilitate the implementation of the client Information and cyber Security policies, standards, processes, architecture and infrastructure, to provide assurance, protection and security client’s data and information whilst enabling continuity of business.
    • Develop the security designs for clients and lead the deployment of the cyber security controls to intercept and minimise threats and attacks.
    • Detect, examine, report and take necessary actions for cyber security weaknesses and violations.
    • Investigate and analyse the alerts triggering in the respective platform and triage them accurately.
    • Manage and resolve a high proportion of cyber security incidents without OEM intervention. Escalate high level incidents to senior team members within the Technology CoE’s Cyber Defence domain.
    • Provide input for planning, assessment, implementation, rollout and preparation of cyber security change requests.
    • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts and implement the resulting remedial actions.
    • Providing second line consultancy to clients on cyber security issues and determining the security solution required.
    • Support the deployment of cyber platforms to implement security controls and improve the defence of the clients’ infrastructure and applications.
    • Identify and deliver technical and process enhancements that uplift the overall cyber security delivery and maturity.
    • Proactively evaluate any security vulnerably and provide recommendations to minimise risks.
    • Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging cyber security technologies and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the MTN.
    • Prepare regular and timely cyber security reports that will enhance management decision making with regards to mitigating the attacks and risks posed.
    • Apply best practice, and continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level.

    • Implement a consultative selling approach by seeking out open dialogues to explore an understanding the clients’ business, services and technology needs before offering a solution.
    • Support the commercial team in response to client RFP by translating customers’ requirements into technical specifications.

    • Interface with internal and external cybersecurity industry experts to anticipate customer needs and facilitate solutions development.
    • Collaborate across functional teams within the Technology CoE to enable the development of solutions necessary to drive the desired business outcomes for customers.

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience, and Competencies)
    Education:

    • Minimum of 3-year tertiary degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
    • An MBA or post graduate degree is advantageous.
    • Related industry certifications in cyber security (CISSP, AWS, CEH, etc.).

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in an ICT environment within the Telecoms sector, with at least 3 years specialisation experience in cyber and information security solutions planning and delivery.
    • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets is advantageous).

    Senior Specialist - Digital Security Designer Technology Information

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Key Performance Areas

    • Participate in and lead the security design and implementation of all products across Financial Services, Consumer, Enterprise, Technology and Digital - design phase security and post implementation.
    • Evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of security controls established to ensure the security of the MTN SA product and application suits.
    • Partner with IT, Risk management and Group Security to develop a comprehensive set of cyber-security controls (policies and procedures) governing hosted and SaaS environments.
    • Provide security guidance and review on business and technology products/ solutions, model threats and risks as well as the controls necessary to mitigate them, on both an organisational and technical level – thinking like a malicious hacker, understanding and anticipating the moves and tactics that a hacker might use to attack MTN systems.
    • Research, validation and evaluation of all new product initiatives, with phase gates reviews presented to all stakeholders during the process
    • Ensure that third party solutions and products follow MTN Application Security controls and standards.
    • Review the security design of MTN applications and products, drive the testing process (prior to deployment).
    • Perform best-practices risk assessment of MTN’s product security stacks – Momo, Digital, Consumer, etc.

    • Work with the product teams to identify and assist with the implementation of policy, process, people and technology improvements.     • Evaluate and oversee the security of outsourced / third-party technologies and hosting environments to ensure they provide adequate protection for the processing, transmission, and storage of MTN’s information:
    • Implement Group reference architecture for integrating with third parties and partners
    • Implement mechanisms for vetting and implementing integration with cloud providers
    • Implement architectural and development standards for third party application security
    • Deliver technical security solutions, standards and configurations for the MTN SA Mobile Money technology stack, including the mobile money core system, third-party interfaces, and the internal core network interfaces. Special focus on integrating disparate systems, encryption, cryptographic protocols and algorithms, automatic patch management, security hardening of applications and devices, networks segregation with strong access controls, audit management and security monitoring, and ensuring the management of security compliance of MTN’s mobile money products, services and infrastructure.
    • Evaluate outsourced Mobile Money integration points to ensure they provide adequate protection for the processing, transmission, and storage of transactions.
    • Act as a subject matter expert to application development and support personnel for any/all issues regarding the security design or use of applications. This includes enterprise operational staff and business unit personnel.
    • Create and execute a training and awareness program for secure development and best practice

    Operational Delivery:

    • Assist Senior Manager Security Architecture to develop and implement the product security architecture requirements and framework, overarched by the business risk strategy
    • Develop and implement the application security solution architecture, DevSecOps tooling infrastructure and define various interface requirements for various toolsets
    • Drive the design and implementation of secure applications in support of Enterprise-wide and Business Unit applications. Ensure thorough security design and testing is built into them, new and existing applications and products (inhouse & applications, on-prem or cloud)
    • Roadmap definitions for security of key products by monitoring security environment; identifying security gaps; evaluating and implementing enhancements.
    • Utilize security tools for the appsec program such as static and dynamic code analysis tools and develop continual improvement program.
    • Supervise and manage collaboration with relevant vendors/stakeholders for vulnerability scanning and penetration testing exercises. Coordinate red teams and penetration testers to facilitate exercises and work with application engineering teams on remediation. Oversee remediation efforts
    • Assist with code reviews and create secure reusable patterns.
    • Perform risk and threat assessments.
    • Ensure implementation of technical security standards on the application platforms as well as ongoing monitoring and reporting of compliance against the standards
    • Ensure the integration of the financial technology and digital platforms into the security compliance and monitoring eco-system both at opco and Group level then regularly confirm and report on ongoing effectiveness
    • Participate in information security operations duties, including incident response escalations. Liaise with other relevant functions to facilitate the timeous closure of incidents and vulnerabilities in relation to the financial technology and digital platforms
    • Assist relevant business owners and custodians in identifying and setting activities logs, audit trails, functional and technical requirements, and ensure adequate custody of such.
    • Stay abreast of current and evolving technologies in the application security area.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education:

    • Minimum of 3 years tertiary qualification in Information Technology/ Engineering
    • CISSP/CEH/ CGEIT certification (one of)
    • SABSA and/or TOGAF, Continuous Delivery Architecture qualification will be an advantage

    Experience:

    General Manager - Marketing and Strategy Group Digital

    • The General Manager: Digital Marketing and Strategy for will ensure that the quality and customer satisfactions across all the services align to the Group goals and key programme ensuring payments tools are efficient.
