    General Engineering Supervisor U/G Fixed Plant

    Job Description:

    • As the General Engineering Supervisor, you need to apply deep technical or specialist expertise to analyse data, anticipate and diagnose problems while you provide a solution aimed at improving the processes, systems and work methods that meet the customer requirements.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Ensuring adherence to the MHS Act, OHS Act, and GMR 2 regulations
    • Ensuring work is planned, scheduled, executed and monitored in accordance to the Engineering objectives
    • Analysing data for all underground fixed plant and area of responsibility, reporting and investigating barriers to effective quality performance, causes of delays and deviations and ensuring mitigating plans are prepared and implemented
    • Identifying and initiating system improvements
    • Ensuring budgets are met and cost is controlled
    • Stakeholder management, while supporting and implementing project optimisation
    • Ensuring legal, safety, environmental and hygiene standards are complied with and maintained

    This role is in the Engineering Department at Band 6 and reports to the Underground Fixed Plant Section Engineer: VUP

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma/ Degree Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or N6/ Mechanical or Electrical Trade Test certificate
    • More than 5 years post qualification experience on the maintenance of fixed plant equipment required for underground mining (Ground and Water handling)

    Additional information:

    • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience as a Senior Foreman or GES
    • Technical Knowledge in maintenance Gyratory Crusher, Cone Crusher, dewatering pumps, conveyor belts systems and underground electrical infrastructure
    • Contract management experience and working knowledge of repair and services contracts

    Artisian (6 Months FTC)

    Job Description:

    • The Kimberley Microdiamond Laboratory (KMDL) is a unique facility focused on safely recovering microdiamonds through the use of specific chemical processes.
    • The Artisan is critical in ensuring equipment availability and that the facility is fit and proper to enable the safe execution of work activities. The KMDL is a part of De Beers Exploration and is a declared Major Hazard Installation (MHI). 
    • The purpose of the Artisan is to Maintain, repair, modify and install all non-specialist plant and site equipment in the facility as directed with the aim of ensuring availability of equipment for improving quality and productivity.  This is to be achieved by at all times maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards. The Artisan will assist with design, construction, and commissioning projects as and when required.

    Key responsibilities include: 

    • Maintain and repair equipment on site and order spares as needed.
    • Provide technical direction to employees on requested treatment equipment.
    • Make recommendations on process improvements and implements as approved.
    • Monitor the functioning of treatment and laboratory equipment.
    • Ensure maintenance is performed according to schedules and assists with repairs and maintenance issues as required.
    • Calibrations on flow meters; signs off job cards on completion.
    • Ensures relevant work permits are available, completed before carrying out work e.g. Hot Work, Lock out, Confined space .
    • Ensure allocated equipment registers are in place and that checklists are completed per schedule i.e. workshop portable equipment, lifting equipment.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 with relevant experience
    • Valid driver’s license 
    • Trade Certificate in either of the following disciplines: Fitting & turning / Boiler making / Millwright

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Proven track-record in Repair and Maintenance from processing plant environment and/or laboratory environment.
    • Working experience in plastic welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, and/or mechanics would be advantageous.
    • Experience in working with ISO systems (ISO 9001, 17025, 45001 & 14001) would be advantageous.
    • Computer literate with MS Office Software.
    • Knowledge operating mobile machinery would be advantageous.

    Shift Operation Controller

    Job Description:

    • As a Shift Operations Controller, you will coordinate the actions of a mine operations team and the associated resources to deliver safe production targets on shift, that are consistent with agreed performance measures, and in-line with the daily, weekly and monthly plans of the broader operation/site.

    You will be required to:

    • Adhere to legal, safety, environmental and hygiene standards are complied with and maintained in your area of responsibility.
    • Co-ordinate shift handover by checking the status and completion of the scheduled mining and engineering activities, the availability of resources required for the shift, compiling relevant documentation and reports, and communicating these to team members of the crew for the next shift.
    • Review the Shift Schedule together with the Shift Supervisor at the beginning of the shift and make the required updates in the management system before implementing it for execution.
    • Control the effective execution of underground TMM mining processes by allocating and managing resources (workplaces, people and equipment), according to the shift schedule.
    • Update or change activities on the Shift Schedule in accordance with operational and maintenance exceptions, prioritise and allocate resources as required.
    • Continuously analyse relevant mining activities during the shift to recommend or implement improvements and changes to maximise outputs.
    • Provide decision support to underground machine operators and supervisory personnel
    • React to alarms and assisting supervisory personnel with the implementation of emergency procedures and evacuations, including accounting for underground workers in places of safety or for blast clearance.
    • Create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers.

    Qualifications:
    Education required:

    • Grade 12 certificate / Standard 10 / N3 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
    • Blasting Certificate for Underground Hard Rock Mines
    • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or similar related engineering field is not mandatory but desirable for career progression
    • A supervisory qualification as Shift Supervisor Mining Operations will be advantageous
    • Accreditation as ‘Competent Person A’ will be advantageous

    Experience & knowledge required:

    • Minimum of 5 years underground mining experience of which at least 2 years must have been as a Shift Supervisor (Supervisor Mine Operations) / Mine Operations Controller
    • Supervision and management of people and resources according to a work schedule
    • Computer literate and proven understanding and experience in the operation of mine management systems and mining automation systems

    Other requirements:

    • Valid EB/Code 08 Drivers License
    • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) and Security clearance on mine
