    Consignment & Tool Engineer

    • Gibela Rail Transport Consortium invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Consignment & Tool Engineer Position to be based in Radjespark, Midrand. The position reports to Warranty Depot Coordinator. The opportunity involves some travelling to depots and suppliers for consignment stock audits.

    Purpose of the Job:

    • Manage the stock of warranty parts and tools.
    • Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure the Consignment Stock is available for Warranty teams.
    • Define and order the Consignment stock for the next batch of Trains.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage the stock of warranty parts (Consignment Stock)
    • Insure the quantity of Consignment stock is adequate and place new purchase orders when necessary (standard parts without supplier warranty)
    • Organize the move of parts between warehouses and depots to make the parts available to warranty teams
    • Liaise with suppliers to inform them about the failures and the use of their Consignment parts
    • Regularly report to suppliers the content of their Consignment stock
    • Make sure the repair loop is working well with suppliers
    • For suppliers who keep the Consignment in their premises, request the parts to repair failures. Perform audits of Consignment stock in their premises.
    • Make sure the ERP system (GSI) is up to date, and update it if necessary
    • Anticipate the need of Consignment stock for the next batch of Trains and prepare the data for the Purchase Order
    • Maintain the list of Warranty tools up to date with reference, location, PIC, revision date…
    • Manage the revision of tools prior to the revision date
    • Order new tools for new comers.
    • Respect EHS rules and any work related processes.

    Educational Requirements:

    • B Tech – Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Production Management.
    • IT literate ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and good level in database management working knowledge SAP.
    • Excellent communication skills (English fluency).

    Desired Knowledge / Experience:

    • Industrial background with 2 to 5 years’ experience preferably in the railway industry or;
    • General railway and Product knowledge.
    • Knowledge of configuration management and Industrialization Engineering (several years).
    • Good internal and external communication and capacity to coordinate complex configurations

    Technical Support (Coil and Wound Stator)

    Job Purpose:

    • To provide manufacturing assistance / technical support to the manufacturing team within the coils, connections and wound stator areas. The assistance needs to ensure that all the critical processes are followed, on-the-job training provided and that the correct levels of quality are achieved.

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsibility for providing technical expertise and support to the Coils, Connections and Wound Stator Area, including fault finding and repair activities.
    • Support with the set-up and qualification of equipment, operators and materials needed for the manufacturing of the coils and connections.
    • Assist with skills development within autonomous teams. To train and develop people within the team.
    • Liaise with production managers / EPU managers and provide technical assistance where required.
    • Assist with the validation of documentation issued.
    • Review and suggest improvements to the work instructions being utilized by the operators.
    • Ensure strict implementation of manufacturing procedures supplied by Alstom;
    • Support with raising Request for Clarifications (RFC) with Ornans.
    • Maintain safety standards in the area of responsibility.
    • Maintain equipment standards (through TPM schedules).
    • Analyse and find the root cause of repetitive non compliancy / reworks.
    • Defined and communicate the quality acceptance criteria at each workstation.
    • Suggest actions to improve the quality of the coils and wound stator.
    • Assisting in the recruiting and technical assessments of possible candidates (operators).

    Educational Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or N3.
    • Red Seal Artisan in the relevant trade.
    • MS Office Literate.

    Desired Knowledge and Experience:

    • 5 Years manufacturing supervisory experience. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience in the lean manufacturing environment.
    • Must have > 7 years’ experience in armature winding and coil manufacturing.
    • Good knowledge of insulation materials and taping operations.
    • Experience in coil forming (including machine set-ups).
