    Administrative Assistant: Department

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans and developing centres of excellence of national importance. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty.  The Statistics and Population Studies Department is hosted in the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
    • As the successful candidate, you will assist to with all Departmental administrative procedures, in order to ensure alignment and compliance with central administrative systems and procedures.

    Reporting to the Departmental Chairperson, the appointee will be responsible for assisting with:

    •     Academic Administration
    •     Reception Duties
    •     Enquiry Management
    •     Marketing & Recruitment
    •     Meeting Administration
    •     Human Resources Administration
    •     General Administration includes office administration, assisting document management, liaising with service providers, e.g. Technical Services, Audio Visual Services, etc. 

    Minimum Requirements

    •     Matric Certificate with at least 2 years administrative experience.
    •     Proficiency in computer programmes/software packages e.g. Word; Excel / MS Office Suites / Power Point.
    •     Administrative experience in a Higher Education environment as well as knowledge of student administration systems.

    Competencies required:

    •     Demonstrated communicative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
    •     Ability to work efficiently under pressure, and to adhere to and meet strict deadlines.
    •     Ability to work without supervision and to pay attention to detail.

    Faculty Librarian X2

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • The University of the Western Cape Library Services' vision is to be a strategic partner recognised for our excellence in innovative and relevant library services. Our Library mission is to enrich the learning, teaching and research experience by providing relevant resources and expertise to enable academic success.
    • We are seeking the services of  self-motivated and proactive faculty librarians to work collaboratively in a team, to service and manage the diverse information needs of the various Faculties. The faculty librarian role aims to embed library services into faculty programmes and to promote UWC Graduate Attributes and student success.

    The successful candidates will be responsible for:

    • Provide reference, liaison and engagement for the faculty information needs
    • Develop information resources/collections in a variety of formats in consultation with faculty to support and enhance the learning needs and research output
    • Enhance 21st Century literacies and UWC graduate attributes for student success and lifelong learning
    • Promote research support activities for assigned departments within the faculty
    • Facilitate subject-based information services and pursue personal development
    • Promote the library resources and services

     
    Minimum Requirements
    Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

    • B.Bibl. Degree or equivalent qualification
    • 3 years of relevant experience in an academic or research environment 

    Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 

    • Knowledge of current trends in academic librarianship related to research and instruction
    • Knowledge and understanding of the research process and methodology
    • Knowledge of information and digital literacy concepts and their application within disciplines
    • ICT fluency in relation to communication, presentation and formatting of information
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, as well as public presentation skills
    • Commitment to public service and improving library user experience
    • Initiative, flexibility and ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member
    • Commitment to continual professional development, improvement and learning
    • Current Liasa membership
