    Higher Education Studies Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2023

    Duties and responsibilities:

    THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

    • Conduct innovative research in the following areas: academic identities and digital identities, academic leadership in Higher Education; curriculum, teaching and learning in Higher Education.
    • Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
    • Initiate research projects and seek funding for them.
    • The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    • Do limited teaching in the Programmes for Higher Education Studies and/or teacher education, where appropriate.
    • Provide limited supervision and/or co-supervision at PgDip, Honours, Master’s and/or Doctoral level, where appropriate.
    • Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Centre for Graduate Studies and the Directorate of Research Development.
    • The successful candidate will be required to conduct innovative research and obtain evidence- based empirical data on current developments in Higher Education within the South African context and internationally.
       

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    • Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State.
    • Graduated with a relevant PhD degree, with a focus on Higher Education, within the last five years.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
    • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS Bloemfontein Campus.

    Vice-Dean: Agriculture (post level 5) (contract appointment: five years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term)

    Duties and responsibilities

    •    Participate in all aspects of the core business of the faculty, but with specific reference to agricultural innovation and development.
    •     Work in close collaboration with the Vice-Dean: Teaching and Learning, Vice-Dean: Research and Postgraduate Studies and the Dean in advancing the agriculture-related priorities of the University and Faculty.
    •     Take co-responsibility with the Dean to ensure the achievement of the mission of all faculty-based agricultural academic programmes and initiatives
    •     Act as liaison between the UFS and the Agricultural sector (including but not limited to the private and public sector and potential donors and emerging commercial farmers).

    Vice-Dean: Teaching and Learning (post level 5) (contract appointment: five years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term)

    Duties and responsibilities

    •    Take co-responsibility with the Dean to ensure the achievement of the mission of all faculty-based programmes and initiatives.
    •     Lead the Teaching and Learning (T&L) portfolio of the faculty by guiding T&L policies, teaching approaches, digitalisation and innovation in the field to ensure the smooth running of all T&L activities.
    •     Provide guidance towards strategic and visionary T&L matters such as course and curriculum development, teaching innovation and hybrid teaching methodologies.
    •     Ensure that the General Rules and Regulations of the UFS as well as NAS rules related to the academic programmes are adhered to, updated where needed and communicated to all staff in NAS.

    •     Identify and develop current and future research flagships of the Faculty.

    Procurement Officer (Post Level 12) (3 Positions)

    Duties and responsibilities:
    Operations                                                                                                              

    •     Order ICTS equipment for the university community.
    •     Liaise with Service Providers to ensure best quality at best prices for goods and services.
    •     Challenge the status quo and ensure that all the decisions are for the good of the University.
    •     Process UFS documentation for digitisation and/or of site storage.

    Chief Officer: Manager ICTS Technical Support (Post Level 8)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    Strategic Alignment                                                                                                      

    •     Participate and contribute to the formulation of the ICT Services strategy and intent and contract matters.
    •     Fully understand and provide interpretive support to the ICT Services Management Committee on aspects related to the University’s Strategic Plan and departmental goals and associated objectives.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    •     A relevant Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma/B.Tech degree/Postgraduate Certificate on NQF level 7 OR a relevant 3- year National Diploma on NQF level 6.
    •     Three (3) to four (4) years’ relevant working experience related to the duties and responsibilities.

    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Missional Studies: Department of Practical and Missional Theology

    Duties and responsibilities:

    Senior Lecturer

    •     Lecture undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    •     Provide supervision to postgraduate students, namely Honours, Masters and PhD students.
    •     Conduct research and deliver quality research outputs in line with the research strategy of the faculty.
    •     Attend and speak at conferences, research colloquia, workshops, and seminars to enhance research and disciplinary knowledge.
    •     Participate in community activities such as mentorship and provide training and short courses in the areas of specialisation.
    •     Perform academic administration pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate subjects – this may include typing, setting, and marking of all question papers and memorandums, recording of marks and handling of student complaints.
    •     Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.
    •     Serve as a member of various academic committees and perform any other tasks allocated by the Dean and Head of the Department.

    Lecturer

    Inherent Job Requirements

    Senior Lecturer:

    •     A relevant PhD on NQF level 10 in Missional Studies or any other relevant specialisation in the fields of Practical and Missional Theology.  
    •     Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate including postgraduate supervision up to master’s level and curriculum and/or programme development.
    •     A proven research profile of discipline-specific peer reviewed publications over a sustained period of time, in national and international accredited journals of high impact.
    •     Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
    •     Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
    •     An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
    •     Proven experience in supervising to completion of master’s students.
    •     Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Lecturer:

    •     A PhD on NQF level 10 in Missional Studies or any other relevant specialisation in the fields of Practical and Missional Theology .
    •     Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
    •     Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
    •     A good academic record.

    ​​​Recommendations

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer:

    •     The ability to work interdisciplinary in the field of Practical and Missional Theology and/or related studies.
    •     The ability to conduct empirical research.
    •     Senior Lecturer: Published at least three articles in accredited Journals (National or International).
    •     Lecturer: Published at least one article in accredited Journals (National or International).
