    Supervisor: Gardening & Cleaning ( 2) - Koedoespoort

    Position Purpose:

    • Provide operation direction to the Exterior Cleaning, Gardening and Vegetation Management teams in the plant and surrounding depots.
    • Ensure effective management and maintenance of the plant premises and ensure all external areas are sound, safe, and tidy aesthetically pleasing and they present a safe environment. This will involve ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure promote conducive working environment enabling the employees to work safely and be productive.
    • To ensure that all required machinery to perform these tasks is in a safe and reliable condition and the staff is properly trained to execute their duties and to safely operate the machines.
    • Ensure consistency within the Centre and Corridor in adhering to the provided Service Specifications and maintaining uniformity within all Transnet Engineering sites.

    Position outputs:

    • Read and be able to understand and interpret the Service Specification for Cleaning, gardening, and vegetation management within TE.
    • Plan and ensure the effective implementation of the Service Specification and ensure that the requirements are met within the required budget, time, and quality requirements.
    • Develop a roster for the teams to rotate efficiently between the assigned areas.
    • Do some calculations on the required monthly consumables such as petrol, diesel, nylon tread, etc and put some measures to avoid wastage by the team.
    • Plan services for the machines and stagger them so that not all machines are away at the same time.
    • Lead and direct the team responsible for exterior cleaning, gardening, and vegetation control so that they are motivated and have access to the required resources in order to meet the objectives set for them.
    • Conduct some safety awareness talks during the morning meetings and encourage team members to participate in safety discussions and training.
    • Arrange with the Plant SHE department to provide appropriate training to the team on a continuous basis.
    • Encourage the team to come up with some innovations and cost saving initiatives, e.g., on water usage for irrigation and fuel saving for the machines.
    • Order and provide all protective clothing for the employees and ensure that no employee works without proper PPE.
    • Develop a good working relationship with the Managers of the different sites/depots and communicate well to understand any challenges related to your expected deliverables.
    • Create a roster for the days to drive to visit the different depots under your responsibility.
    • Arrange with Supply Chain to have contracts with the service providers for the machine repairs during breakdowns to improve the turnaround time.
    • Ensure that there is enough budget to cover operations and discuss all budgetary requirements with the Asset Manager.
    • Manage the leave days for the employees and not approve leave when there is not enough resources to execute the work.
    • Manage the performance of the individual employees and provide coaching when necessary.
    • Monitor skills development and drive the values and behaviours required to create a positive and motivational culture.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Grade 10 (NQF 2)
    • Experience/Qualification in Horticulture will be an added advantage
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Supervisor in a Maintenance/Construction or Facilities Management Environment

    Portfolio Manager - Durban

    Position Purpose:

    • The Portfolio management encompasses the processes, governance and tools used to plan, create, assess, balance and communicate the execution of the IT portfolio. IT portfolio managers get involved in investments that go beyond strictly technology initiatives. They must be highly knowledgeable in the business and highly proficient at navigating the complexities of organizational decision making. The "portfolio" in portfolio management can consist of multiple projects or multiple programs, but they do not necessarily need to be directed toward the same strategic, business, or organizational objectives.
    • Senior management will look to portfolio managers to weigh many different initiatives — sometimes with widely diverse objectives — against the overall strategic direction of the company.
    • Accountable for performance reporting of projects to the project execution team and Senior Manager: ICT PMO.

    Position outputs:

    • Develop and manage the relationship between IT and other stakeholders (for example, internal customers and the internal strategic portfolio management team), with the goal of defining, aligning, building and assessing_ the IT investment portfolio
    • Develop, prioritize, coordinate and communicate the goals and processes necessary for implementing the portfolio.
    • Proactively provide the IT and business community with information concerning specific business opportunities where technology can enhance the value of the business.

    Managing & controlling stages

    • Evaluate and assess risk as Dart of the life cycle analysis of portfolio components
    • Monthly Portfolio report preparation and submission
    • Conduct analyses of asset deployment, use and acquisition, and dispose of non performing assets.

    • Assist the business development group in executing and communicating the vision, mission and goals of the IT-business portfolio.
    • Assist the CIO and senior IT and business management in developing, executing, and communicating IT-business vision, mission, and goals.
    • Provide leadership and effective management to the business development organization
    • Assist in ensuring timely and effective communication regarding the mapping of IT initiatives to business goals of the IT organization and internal customers, including presenting complex information to senior IT and business management outlining portfolio specifics.
    • Act as primary liaison between the IT group, lines of business and other stakeholders.
    • Work with the IT organization and other stakeholders to develop, prioritize, and execute the IT and business portfolio
    • Communicate and champion the infrastructure requirements necessary to execute the IT portfolio
    • Maintain an understanding of enterprise business initiatives and objectives, the various line Portfolios and current trends and developments in the technology field 15. Analyse portfolio performance, and recommend changes in investment mix to achieve goals
    • Use reporting tools to monitor portfolio activities, and regularly brief senior IT and business management on portfolio performance
    • Proactively identify and present opportunities to senior IT and business management for applying developments in technology to the challenges faced by the business
    • Proactively identify opportunities not anticipated or requested by the business that will provide a competitive advantage

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management and/or a business-related degree is required.
    • PMP or PRINCE2 Practitioner (Advantageous)

    Minimum Years Relevant Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management with involvement in IT infrastructure/SDLC or operations.
    • At least 5 years medium to high complexity projects or Programmes completed end-to-end
    • 3 to 4 years of experience in business analysis or business strategic planning (Advantageous)

    General Worker: Gardening & Cleaning - Koedoespoort

    Position Purpose:

    • Cleaning the TE premises by sweeping the roads, washing any dirt, collecting rubble and litter, cutting the grass and controlling any vegetation that is growing within the premises.
    • Ensure proper maintenance of the plant premises and ensure all external areas are sound, safe, and tidy aesthetically pleasing and they present a safe environment. This position will also take care of the flower beds and lawn, ensuring that they are watered and kept in a good looking condition.
    • The General Worker can be assigned any other work around the plant that is safe to perform and within his/her capabilities.

    Position outputs:

    • Road and Yard Cleaning, washing of pavements when required, collection of litter around the premises, grass cutting and vegetation control.
    • Watering of flower beds and lawn ensuring that they are free of weed and well taken care of.
    • Follow instructions from the Facilities Supervisor to rotate efficiently between the assigned areas where cleaning has to be done.
    • Avoid wastage of fuel and consumables. Come up with some savings initiatives to control costs within areas of responsibility.
    • Do first line maintenance and repairs on the irrigation system and report faults to the Facilities Supervisor.
    • Work in cooperation with the Machinery Operators who must cut the grass using the ride on mowers.
    • Conduct all duties in a safe manner and contribute to safety talks and help promote a safety culture within the team.
    • Come up with some innovations and cost saving initiatives, e.g., on water usage for irrigation and fuel saving for the machines.
    • Always wear the correct protective clothing when performing your duties.
    • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the Facilities Supervisors and Machinery Operators and communicate well to understand any challenges related to your expected deliverables.
    • Control leave days and always arrange leave with your Supervisor prior to taking it.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • A candidate must be able to read and write.
    • No working experience required.
    • Experience in Garden Services may add and advantage.
