    Projects Manager - Logistics

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Projects Manager - Logistics To co-ordinate and ensure the efficient and effective supply and flow of timber on road and rail into the MPU mills in accordance to their various specification and timber demands while managing the woodyard stock holding and material handling contractor for Biomass at Sapp Ngodwana mill.

    As a Projects Manager - Logistics, you will be responsible for:

    • Collect official timber orders from line managers and proactively compile sales plan on procurement supplies in line with the mill demands and according to budget and forecast.
    • Ensure orders are captured on Timber Control System (TCS) in line with the sales plan in order to warrant mills, transporters and suppliers’ alignment
    • Monitor and control major suppliers’ performance versus order by means of the daily, weekly and TCS reports to ensure rateably timber deliveries and order adjustments where necessary.
    • Communicate stock levels, production performance and turnaround times (TAT) daily through the respective communication channels to align daily deliveries.
    • Keep record of rejects, analyse trends and institute corrective and preventative actions to minimum timber losses, reduce turnaround times and minimise disruptions at the mill.
    • Carry out site visitations to assess sidings and depot stocks to ensure rateable and within specification timber supply.
    • Compile weekly and monthly forecasts in line with quarterly forecast and annual budget plan to monitor the rate and cost of delivery.
    • Report on critical timber supplies and deliveries and ensure this is communicated to the Resources Manager, Project Managers and Hauliers which might lead to the review of the delivery plans.
    • Handle all source key requests from major suppliers in line with the chain of custody (CoC) requirements to guarantee compliance
    • Ensure that the sourcing budget is in line with the plan and is captured correctly on the monthly report.
    • Understand the MPU forestry logistics budgets and provide input on woodyard maintenance and timber sourcing.
    • Manage variable and fixed budget costs and report on financial performance of the area of responsibility
    • Work with Timber Control TCS staff on timber supply budget by monitoring and reporting variances
    • Prepare/present weekly/monthly progress reports to monitor all technical, financial and administration aspects.
    • Ensure compliance to all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices and work instructions by suppliers through Stop and Think Before You Act (STBA)

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • A Logistics, Supply chain and or Transport Management qualification will be advantageous
    • At least 5 years’ experience in logistics, forestry management and/or timber procurement.
    • Valid code EB driver's license

    Lean Manufacturing Specialist (Drying)

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Lean Manufacturing Specialist to drive lean area transformation across the department and improve employee engagement, and alignment with our manufacturing fundamental elements, lean processes, and business goals. Execute continuous improvement projects within the department with the objective of improving OEE (improving availability, quality, and speed).

    As a Lean Manufacturing Specialist, you will be responsible for:

    • Improve OEE in their area of responsibility by improving availability, quality, and speed
    • Have major input into the MDTs as a key member and ensure that Lean fundamentals are being applied systematically and that the MDT addresses the key actions and criteria daily/weekly for availability, speed, and quality
    • Complete Charters for the departmental improvement projects, commit to the SPPS system and ensure quality adherence to the SPPS process
    • Facilitate the SPPS process (DMAIC) and ensure timeous implementation of the actions
    • Use the Data Science toolset to do the RCAs, measurement, and analysis phases of DMAIC, becoming skilled with Braincube and Rapidminer data science tools
    • Provide analytical support (statistical analysis), to the business to facilitate solutions to complex problems
    • Custodian of the department Lean and Me Programs and developments
    • Safely executes, leads, and manages 6 Sigma Projects, to attain measurable improvements in cost, quality, and delivery throughout the department
    • Trial new optimised process parameters on the operating floor with Process Specialists, and operators and if successful, ensure that they become entrenched as SOP in conjunction with the Process Specialists
    • Design standards of measurement by which efficiency, performance, and progress can be assessed (Scorecards/ Dashboards for IT automation) as part of the control phase in conjunction with the Lean Manager

    What are we looking for?

    • Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification (industrial engineering preferred)
    • Experience in advancing SPPS projects within the Pulp & Paper industry
    • Must have advanced computer and data analyses skills
    • Must be willing to travel, and work in operations across the region as required

    Senior Network Engineer

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to provide technical support to all stakeholders and ensure that all business units leverage from available technology and business developments in order to deliver professional, innovative, value-added projects and services pertaining to networking and communications. The role will be based in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Coastal area.

    This role reports into the Lead Network Engineer

    As a Senior Network Engineer you will be responsible for:

    • First line support for all network and communication related incidents at sites where there is direct accountability.
    • Contribute to achievement of regional operational delivery objectives. This includes direct accountability for numerous Mills and offices.
    • Liaison with Service providers to expedite fault finding, resolution and root cause analysis.
    • Roll-out and support of connectivity projects with Sappi regionally that includes, but is not limited to Wan / Lan links, VPN’s, Firewalls, Wireless Access Points and the like
    • Facilitate local execution of the Regional Information Services Communications strategy at the different units
    • Provide technical expertise, direction, and assistance to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, other Systems Architects, and software development teams.
    • Assist with the development, documentation, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, budgeting, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
    • Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.
    • Assist with documenting the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
    • Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.

    What are we looking for:

    • Minimum of an IT related diploma and MCSE/MCSD or ACNT or relevant Network Certifications.
    • IT related degree or equivalent would be advantageous.
    • 3-5 Years of experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, Firewalls.
    • Experience in supporting enterprise network solutions in data centre and branch office environments including routing, switching and wireless LAN technologies; application networking and delivery technologies (data centre server and global load balancing solutions); WAN, Internet connectivity & related technologies (SD-WAN, MPLS, IPSEC VPN, WAN Optimizers, Rate Limiters, QoS, etc.), Network Monitoring & Management Platforms.
    • Core knowledge into WAN products and solutions (HP, Aruba and Microtek routing protocols and features (MP-BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, HSRP etc.)
    • Proficiency into Load Balancing technologies (Citrix, F5 etc.), DNS (Bind, Bluecoat, Umbrella, etc.), Active Directory integration with WAN optimisation (NPS, etc.)
    • First-hand knowledge in supporting network solutions to enable integration of VMWare, blade, cloud and converged network environments.
    • Experience in implementing multi-vendor global WAN networks for integrated (voice, video, data) traffic using various connectivity means including SD-WAN, MPLS, IPSEC VPN and others.
    • Knowledge of perimeter security solutions technologies in the data centre and branch office environments including firewalls, remote access VPNs, IPS/IDS systems and Secure Web Gateway solutions is desirable.
    • Strong ability to document processes, procedures and network designs clearly and accurately for distribution to internal teams and customers.
    • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards.
    • Experience with telephony systems and VoIP.
    • Excellent troubleshooting experience.
