    Production Intern

    We’re on the lookout for a Production Intern who has completed their S4 with the view to qualifying in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering.

    As a Production Intern, you will be responsible for:

    • Complete section specific training as per the requirements of the position profiles in that section within the agreed timeframe
    • Complete a General and Plant Specific induction
    • Complete legal training as per mill and section requirement
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times
    • Commit to a training programme for 2 years

    Reliability Manager

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Reliability Manager to manage the detailed analysis of the Mill’s operations by developing and implementing strategies and recommendations to improve equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness and asset standardisation..

    As a Reliability Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Professionally and systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and refine the asset maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks; effective utilisation of predictive, proactive, condition-based, and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.
    • Drive SAP maturity and ensure adherence to maintenance standards with special focus on asset utilisation, planning preparation and maintenance execution.
    • Undertake detailed analysis of the plant/assets to develop and drive strategies and recommendations that will improve the reliability and performance of the plant, systems, and maintenance effectiveness.
    • Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop, maintain, and compile asset reliability, criticality, and condition information necessary for asset planning, delivery, and maintenance strategies.
    • Supply reliability status monthly reporting figures, analyse trends and develop improvement projects to address the issues of concern, making continuous improvement a way of life.
    • Work with project Engineers to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations and ensure adherence to the life cycle asset management process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.
    • Responsible for developing and maintaining the relevant mill statutory documentation and standards.
    • Drive maturity and adherence to regional shut management best practice strategy.
    • Coordination of annual, quarterly, and monthly outages by utilising shut planning in line with shut best practices and procedures.
    • Responsible for improvement-specific training, coaching, and development of engineering personnel in the maintenance of equipment consistent with regional maintenance best practices and operating objectives.
    • Responsible for guiding maintenance, projects, and production towards the best practices to improve availability, reliability, etc.
    • Ensure that the departmental maintenance planning team develop effective asset care strategies, standards, schedules, and task instructions, through accurate data analysis and reporting.
    • Responsible for integrating with lean manufacturing and aligning with lean manufacturing.
    • Advise on spares and materials strategies.
    • Participate in the identification, prioritisation, motivation, and justification for capital expenditure projects for new plants or machinery or upgrades of existing ones.
    • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through compliance to legal regulations and mill procedures (e.g., OHS Act, ISO systems, etc.).
    • Effectively direct team members in terms of performance management, talent management, goal alignment, career development and learning.
    • Compile and implement annual and participate in long-term (5-year plan) financial business plans to execute the maintenance and improvement strategy.
    • Accountable for selected CAPEX cost control and effectiveness.
    • Responsible for managing working capital costs.

    What are we looking for?

    • BSc / BEng degree / BTech in Engineering or equivalent
    • Relevant experience 8 -10 years
    • RCM, TPM and/or Lean Manufacturing experience
    • Government Certificate of Competence (Factories) advantageous
    • Pulp and Paper Industry experience will be advantageous
    • Relevant management qualifications will be advantageous

    HR Consultant: Operations

    We’re on the lookout for two HR Consultants: Operations - one based at the Stanger Mill and one for our Tugela Mill, to provide a proactive business partner service, advise line managers and employees on all people-related matters and deliver first-class HR Services in order to ensure that the Stanger and Tugela Mills business strategies are achieved.

    As HR Consultant, you will be responsible for:

    • Driving and participating in recruitment and selection processes, and employee onboarding.
    • Identifying the need for organisational development interventions in the business area to resolve issues around team dynamics, leadership or related items.
    • Executinge the business area’s workforce planning, career conversations, performance management and succession planning process.
    • Monitoring employee turnover (voluntary and involuntary) in the business area and highlight potential issues to the HR Manager. Do succession planning for retirees coming up in the next 5 years on an ongoing basis.
    • Managing and driving the permanent and temporary disability processes.
    • Participating in local business projects to ensure that people issues, including structures, job profiles and training needs are adequately addressed.
    • Responsible for discipline, grievance, dispute resolution and employee consultations.
    • Driving the performance management processes and coaching line managers on effective goal setting and performance appraisals.
    • Executing agreed on tasks or actions around employee engagement, for example providing engagement survey feedback, driving local actions and doing quick local surveys and check-in sessions.
    • Compiling reports and analyses, identifying trends and informing line managers of the correct actions to prevent issues from occurring.
    • Driving the company’s transformation objectives in the business area in relation to employment equity, skills development and equal opportunities for disabled people.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma or bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology or related fields’
    • At least 5 years relevant experience as an HR Business Partner, or HR Consultant
    • Computer literate
    • Understanding SAP HR would be advantageous

    Management Forester

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Management Forester to plan, execute & achieve the operational estate management, harvesting objectives & targets for fibre production within resource & SHEQ parameters to ensure a sustainable and low cost fibre supply to Sappi mills and external customers.

    As a Management Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Build, maintain and reinforce a “predict and prevent” safety culture in all integrated operations
    • Inspect operations regularly to identify risks & ensure that timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management) is undertaken.
    • Plan & conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest & disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks. Record & implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from forest fires.
    • Develop a tactical plan & ensure that the annual plan of operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan per compartment in collaboration with the Contractor and Silviculture.
    • Conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure that the Harvesting budget is managed effectively by ensuring sales target tons/per day is achieved.
    • Compile in conjunction with Roads Engineer, annual tactical road maintenance plan.
    • Scheduling of short-haul and loading operations to ensure rail/road transport is released on time.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Inventory Controller

    As an Inventory Controller you will be responsible for:

    • Overseeing, planning, and ensuring mill material requirements are met.
    • Conducting planning, organising, and controlling of perpetual stock take.
    • Ensuring effective stores management of spares, packing material, raw materials, rotables, capital goods and machine clothing to ensure 100% stock availability.
    • Identifying and addressing potential stock problems, and ensure risks is mitigated.
    • Monitoring abnormal demand, redundant and slow-moving stocks in order to ensure material optimisation.
    • Ensuring that there is an effective quality control process for incoming material in place.
    • Overseeing and controlling stores working capital and fixed costs budget.
    • Leading and performance managing subbordinates.
    • Understanding and managing SHEQ requirements of the section.

    What are we looking for?

    • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Procurement/ Stores / Materials Management
    • 5 years relevant experience
    • SAP MM experience
    • Experience in the technical and/or manufacturing environment is advantageous
    • The ability to work under pressure while following all procedures and standards
