    R&D Product Development Manager

    • Our Talent Team are currently looking for a dynamic Research and Development (R&D) Product Development Manager to join the SIQALO Foods Business. The role will be based at the Siqalo Plant in Boksburg and report into the R&D Executive.
    • SIQALO Foods entrusts the R&D Product Development Manager to be responsible for Product Development across the continuum from medium to long term research on product design to the deployment in market.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Food science, or any natural science Bachelor’s degree
    • 5 - 8 years relevant experience within the food manufacturing industry
    • Product development, science & technology expertise
    • Required to solve technical and analytical problems related to product development

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Deliver product development to relevant projects/part of projects of the portfolio according to key project deliverables
    • Lead the planning and execution of all technical tests and analytical measurement activities (including sensory, nutritional and shelf-life evaluation) both within projects and day to day activities, as well as competitor monitoring
    • Define the CTI plan required to generate technical understanding of consumer needs, to convert consumer need insights into technical hypotheses and to define and support execution of evaluation of prototypes
    • Lead and/or define product innovation plans to address consumer needs using relevant science and technology options
    • Work closely with other capability teams, namely packaging and process development and together with internal (marketing, SC, customer development) & external (suppliers, universities, 3P’s) partners to identify technical options to deliver consumer need & generate new ideas
    • Ensure regulatory compliance with proper use of Siqalo Foods enabling systems
    • Define technical specifications for materials and formulations
    • Develop and deliver a patent review strategy in the product development area
    • When applicable: develop a strategic vision for specific areas of product development (such as the SF nutrition strategy)
    • Ensure nutritional compliance to SF nutritional strategy
    • When applicable, manage-to-delivery external research projects/open innovation projects as well as joint development projects with suppliers
    • When leading projects: work closely with marketing to define and deliver to projects
    • When applicable, for those with line manager responsibilities: coach and make development plans for project/team members
    • Assess new ingredients/suppliers and facilitate approval of these, according to the Siqalo foods Ingredient / supplier protocol
    • Drive continuous improvement programme relevant to recipe and ingredient optimisation

    Process Leader - CCD

    Job Description    

    • RCL FOODS is currently looking for Process Leaders to join our Speciality Business Unit to be based in Centurion. The Process Leaders will be responsible for monitoring and managing the performance of a production department or area in the plant (including staff / process workers, machinery and material on that line),  to achieve daily targets to the required product specifications, while meeting safety, health and quality standards. 

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Minimum appropriate qualification e.g. Grade 12/Equivalent NQF 4 Qualification/Applicable RPL (Recognized Prior Learning).
    • Any Food Safety, Operations or Food Science/Technology related qualification would be an advantage.
    • Relevant experience preferably in a Food Processing/Production Plant and or FMCG Production environment will be required.
    • Expected to have good Inter-personal communication and leadership skills.
    • Be willing to work shifts and flexible hours of work.
    • Expected to be literate and computer literate (basics).
    • Sound decision making skills.
    • Assertiveness and self confidence.
    • A result driven self-starter.
    • Ability to work under pressure.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Production Planning

    • Communicate the objectives of the plan to the team on shift to ensure understanding. 
    • Ensure man load is at full capacity according to the production plan, and request additional resources if necessary before starting the line.

    Operations Management

    • Follow the assigned plan until completed.
    • Ensure allocated resources are accounted for throughout the shift. 
    • Reallocate resources / work within area of responsibility if behind target, and change deadlines if necessary to ensure the achievement of production targets.
    • Request additional resources if necessary to produce the required products.
    • Work with existing processes and procedures in such a way that operational efficiencies and performance are enhanced.
    • Recommend new and different ways of doing things to improve yield and performance (whilst still maintaining product integrity).

    Safety, Health, Risk and Quality Compliance  

    • Work consistently according to standard operating procedures and ensure compliance.
    • Understand the safety, health and quality standards of the job and the reason for these standards, and communicate these reasons to others.
    • Ensure compliance to HACCP and ISO regulations throughout the whole process. 
    • Implement and ensure compliance with the national best operating.

    Cost Control

    • Monitor the line to ensure work is executed consistently according to standard operating procedures to minimize waste and reduce consumption where possible.
    • Monitor the usage of materials.
    • Identify and report wastage of materials.
    • Personnel management  and Team Supervision
    • Ensure direct reports operate within boundaries set. 
    • Supervise people performance.
    • Supervise the activities of the team to ensure production targets are met. 
    • Actively manage non-performance. Initiate disciplinary hearings as needed.
    • Monitor time and attendance daily and report on absenteeism. 
    • Complete all time sheets daily.
    • Continually assess the technical competence of the team and take steps to develop their knowledge and skill.
    • Recognise the strengths of individuals and make use of these to achieve targets. 
    • Provide on-the-job training and support team members where necessary to achieve targets.
    • Identify development needs for individuals / the team.
    • Implement training and development plans for the team as agreed with the Processing Manager. 
    • Develop supportive relationships with reports and encourage a team spirit.

    Production Manager (Bakery)

    Job Description    

    • RCL Foods is seeking a Production Manager to join our Baking Division in Pretoria West. The position will report to the General Manager.
    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for manufacturing high-quality bakery products on a  planned basis in a semi-automated bread plant within an agreed budget.

    Minimum Requirements    
    Minimum Requirements:

    • 5 – 10 years automated multi-plant bakery production experience
    • Strong mechanical knowledge
    • Above average knowledge of bakery machinery & auxiliary equipment
    • SA Chamber of Baking Certificate and other acceptable production qualifications are essential
    • Production Management diploma from a credible tertiary institution

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Familiar with raw materials, technology and processes
    • Knowledge of Chorleywood Bread Process
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Extensive HACCP and Hygiene experience and training
    • OHSACT basic knowledge and training
    • Systems orientated
    • Proficient in Excel, Word & PowerPoint
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Troubleshooting, fault finding & problem solving
    • Good technical ability
    • Ability to work within a matrix structure
