    NRF Rating Consultant - Pretoria

    Job Summary 

    • The consultant must be an NRF-rated individual with extensive experience in the NRF rating applications and or process.  The consultant must have an excellent command of the English language, possess the necessary qualifications, and have the necessary experience to engage with senior colleagues and junior colleagues.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • D. degree in the Social Sciences or the Humanities and have a track record of facilitating similar workshops.;
    • Must be NRF rated
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years of traceable experience with references working on similar projects.
    • Extensive understanding of the NRF rating system

    • C2 Rated
    • The consultant must be available to work with the researcher from November 2023 until February 2024 or the closing date for receiving applications.
    • The HSRC will only consider proposals that include the above requirements.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Work with HSRC senior and junior researchers with their applications for NRF ratings.
    • Critically analyse their applications
    • Inform the prospective applicants of the closing dates and any other related information
    • Monitor prospective applicants progress regarding their application 
    • Demonstrate, through a detailed proposal, that he or she has the necessary skills, competencies, and experience to undertake this assignment.
    • Provide evidence of own experience, e.g. references (please include details in CV).
    • Be familiar with and have an understanding of the NRF rating system and the application process.

    Freelance Expect - Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria

    Minimum Requirements    

    • The candidates are expected to have the following qualifications, skills, and competencies:
    • A minimum of a Masters qualification in Development Studies, Economics, Socio-economics, Finance, Urban Studies, Public Policy or related fields.
    • Prior knowledge and experience of researching small-scale rental housing in Cape Town. Evidence of high-quality academic or popular outputs will be of advantage.
    • Existing links to organisations working in the field of small-scale rental housing.
    • Experience of conducting in-depth interviews with unfamiliar people on sensitive topics.
    • Exceptional qualitative research and writing skills.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • The scope of work and expectations of the freelance researcher/consultant will include:
    • Draft the interview schedule and revise it after consulting the EEE team.
    • Arrange and undertake a minimum of 15 interviews with emerging developers in Cape Town.
    • Arrange and undertake a minimum of 5 interviews with financial institutions in Cape Town.
    • Prepare interview transcripts.
    • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of the findings (e.g. identify common themes, provide quotes).
    • Finalise and submit all agreed deliverables before 15 March 2024. The expected duration for the assignment is approximately 24 working days.

    Social Media Specialist - Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria

    CeSTII wishes to appoint a Social Media Specialist: R&D and Innovation Surveys to provide social media services to the Centre as part of its communication, visibility, dissemination and advocacy (CVDA) strategy, in particular supporting the Centre in its multi-modal campaigns to recognise “20 Years of Measuring South African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators”, and the release of results from four key surveys in the first quarter of 2024. Reporting to the CVDA strategy lead, and working in collaboration with the Centre’s Executive Head, Project Leaders and Researchers, and CVDA team, the freelancer will deliver work of the highest quality, on time, and within budget, on all reports and virtual outputs.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Master’s degree in the sciences or social sciences/humanities, including but not limited to fine art and mult-media, English literature, media and communication studies, marketing, science writing or science communication;
    • Demonstrable track record of a) previous social media writing; b) social media account development; c) social media strategy and risk mitigation within the private and/or public sector, including and especially Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok, d) some experience of facilitating or running social media training—in-depth training expertise would be an advantage.
    • Excellent understanding of corporate branding requirements, workflows, brand positioning, and working to message.
    • An understanding of the research dissemination cycle would be an advantage;
    • Flexibility, independence, creativity, and an aptitude for innovation;
    • Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines;

    Key Responsibilities:
    Key deliverables will include the following:

    • Using an ‘always on’ approach, attend weekly CVDA meetings, develop a weekly content roster, work collaboratively with strategy lead, project leaders, editor, graphic designer, interns to ideate, improve, quality assure and post relevant content that builds relevant audience and fosters engagement, including text-based, photographic and/or data infographics via social media Posts should:
    • showcase the audiences across sectors
    • use social media posts to raise awareness among survey respondent audiences on social media about R&D and innovation surveys
    • promote CeSTII and by extension value of CeSTII data sets and analytical products for policy audiences and apex body
    • the HSRC’s work across the African continent and globally through strategic content posts
    • Innovative project: Develop a comprehensive social media strategy for recognition of “20 Years of Measuring South African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators” and the release of four CeSTII reports in Q4 of 2022/23, including strategy design and presentation to project leaders, improvement steps, and finalisation, and then implementation
    • Monthly reporting, including analytics research, populate and present monthly indicator reports CeSTII
    • Train HSRC DSI intern on social media post development, monitoring and analytical report development, through co-creation of a training plan, on-the-job assignments and coaching, as well as mid-way and final report
    • Train CeSTII team including co-creating a social media training design, preparing relevant materials and exercises, and implementing 3 workshops (1 in-person, 2 virtual)

    TAX and SAGE 300 People Freelancer

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The Human Resources Department, which forms part of the Shared Services Division, is seeking a dynamic, mature, and innovative individual, who possesses advanced SAGE300 people knowledge and experience as well as advanced Tax experience.     Minimum Requirements    

    • Advanced Tax knowledge. A Tax practitioner will be an added advantage.
    • Seasoned knowledge of Sage300 People software.
    • Experience in implementing, configuring, and customizing Sage300 people software so that the Sage300 people functions and processes generate the data output for business as required following the mapping of the business and functional requirements.
    • Experience with SQL and Crystal Reports.
    • Ability to do hardware compatibility tests, Sage300 people API knowledge.
    • Understanding of Sage300 people modules and the design of the Sage300 people architecture and solution.                                                                                                                                                                        

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Creation of an inclusive Standard Operating Procedure Process document that duly takes the complexities and different payroll rules into consideration.
    • Perform a bi-annual tax compliance audit to ensure that all tax requirements are met.
    • Present, on a six (6) monthly basis, a training workshop with the payroll team to discuss all tax requirements especially as it relate to potential tax changes, tax audit requirements, etc.
