    Operations Manager

    Your role and responsibilities

    Strategy

    • Responsible to execute a customer-focused operations strategy derived from the overall business and functional strategy developed for the Local Division, Cluster together with the HB / Global division.
    • Accountable for its relentless execution to achieve defined targets & KPIs.

    Management of operations / Project-Management

    • Owns and is accountable to deliver KPIs in line with ABB expectations.
    • Accountable to deliver 4C targets for Operations: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity.
    • Deploys and manages Project Management system for Project Execution as per IMS and HUB / Global project Management policies.
    • Responsible for on-time/on-margin project execution and to deliver project EBITA and cash.

    Budget and Performance Management

    • Accountable to deliver COGS savings and all other Financial performance KPIs.
    • Accountable to define and deliver the annual budgets for CapEx and OpEx expenses.

    Safety & Integrity

    • Responsible to implement and sponsor Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and all other business compliance standards and regulations across all QO functions.
    • Accountable to ensure a safe work environment and continuous improvement in HSE processes and integrity performance

    Customer relations

    • Provide support to Sales staff to improve understanding of customer requirements in order to identify both potential constraints and solutions to these requirements from an operational point of view.

    People Leadership & Development

    • Accountable that all functions are properly organized, staffed and directed.
    • Accountable to build an effective, capable and high-performing organization.
    • Responsible to develop talent, review organizational effectiveness, performing competence assessments and continuous skill-upgrades.

    Delivery

    • Accountable for a sustainable and effective value-chain, from Customer to Supplier and from Order to Delivery (Products, Projects & Service).
    • Accountable for the effective deployment of the respective Procurement and Logistics strategy and for project execution from order to service.

    Quality

    • Accountable for the effective deployment of ABB’s Quality strategy.
    • Responsible for Quality assurance, Quality control and for the implementation of an integrated quality management system.

    Continuous improvement & Customer Satisfaction

    • Responsible to champion a culture of Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement across the organization.
    • Accountable for the development and continuous improvement of business processes and procedures, and of the overall customer satisfaction for area under scope.

    Engineering and Manufacturing Processes

    • Responsible to ensure master data excellence, deploy manufacturing technology and engineering process standards and establish governance mechanisms to drive and ensure compliance.
    • Adjust Engineering and Manufacturing resources with workload – optimize use of Global Operating centers – as applicable.

    Standards, Governance and Risk Management

    • Accountable to ensure compliance with global and local standards, rules, policies and procedures related to Operations/Project execution.
    • In alignment with the respective Group, Business Area, Global Division and HUB policies, responsible to introduce standards and guidelines, standardized processes, and KPIs.
    • Accountable for operational risk management, validates and improves reliability and effectiveness of business operations.

    Qualifications for the role

    • A bachelor’s (Engineering) degree in electrical, electronics and instrumentation and control. Or Similar.
    • Minimum 15 years of experience in project execution activities out of which 10 years of experience in project management in Systems business.
    • Good communication and presentation skills is required.

    Senior Technical Consultant

    You will be mainly accountable for:

    • Takes a lead role to propose consulting services and solutions to meet the customer's needs.
    • Leads or supports the development of a special technology or area of best practice.
    • Actively participates in customer discussions; preparing technical proposals; techno-commercial negotiations; co-creation workshops with customers; technical guidance for the customer etc. Makes contacts at senior level (e.g., Site Manager, Technical Director).
    • Negotiates contracts to win consulting assignments of 250 to 1500 hours.
    • Develops relationships and actively maintains a technical knowledge exchange with key technical contacts.
    • Ensures consistency in documenting knowledge/lessons learned and shares across the unit/team.
    • Coaches and develops consultants to deliver assignments and provides technical guidance to colleagues.
    • Identifies learning competency gaps in the consulting team and addresses the gap through active (technical) people development.
    • Applies standard processes and tools applicable to their own area of responsibility.
    • Creates work plans and cost estimates in their own area of responsibility.
    • Ensures quality and timely implementation within targeted cost.
    • Supports the development of new tools and processes for effectiveness.
    • Reports inefficiencies in processes and tools.
    • Conducts risk and opportunity assessments for consulting assignments.
    • Proposes and initiates actions to mitigate and control risks in one’s area of responsibility.
    • Identifies opportunities for repeat and new consulting business. Contract management
    • Forms and leads teams to deliver assignments with a focus on operational execution.
    • Oversees and delivers consulting assignments.
    • Works with contract management activities (invoicing and work in progress, etc.) in their own area of work.
    • Approves assignment tasks carried out by others.

    Qualifications for the role

    • Bachelor of Technology/Advanced Diploma or Equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
    • 8+ years’ experience in the field of Electrical Engineering with extensive Electrical experience in Power Generation, Water industry, Oil & Gas.
    • Lead roles in Tendering, Engineering and Execution. Experience in various project development and execution phases including engineering design.
    • Works with the customer to shape and deliver solutions and seeks customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements.
    • Experience in Motors, Drives, Low/Medium Voltage Switchgear, Protections and Relays and Substations.
    • Substation Automation System, IEC 61850 will be advantageous.
    • Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous.
    • Report writing, compiling of technical specification, bills of quantities and contract documentation.
    • Responsible for preparing detailed functional (CAD) and commercial documents in response to all requests for Tenders, Proposals and Quotations.
    • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
    • Collaborate closely with departmental leaders and Subject Matter Experts to craft comprehensive technical and commercial documentation.
    • Take responsibility for ensuring tenders and submissions are completed in a timely manner meeting submission criteria.
    • High level competency with Microsoft (MS) suite of software (MS Office / MS Teams / SharePoint), strong organizational ability and a sharp attention to detail.
    • Experience of working as part of, as well as leading, a bid team (proven bid team leadership and involvement).
    • Preference will be given to employment equity candidates.

    Service Sales Specialist

    You will be mainly accountable for:

    • Ensure that market information (monitoring of competitors, offerings to customers, price levels) is updated and documented in written form in the provided systems locally and globally.
    • Ensure the flow of information to Service Manager and/or Sales Manager about new entrants or other parameters influencing the market
    • Contribute to the identification and development of new and/or potential customers
    • Act as marketer/salesperson of ABB’s services and solutions when appropriate, for instance at trade fairs, exhibitions, conferences, customer meeting
    • Utilize the available marketing material including price lists or other available information to identify leads.
    • Translate the needs of the customer into the relevant ABB’ Service offering
    • Understand the underlying needs of the customer and identify new business opportunities, as well as growing the business with existing customers.
    • Has sufficient knowledge about the ABB Service offerings in order to facilitate the sales process with the customer.
    • Provide sufficient planning of customer visits and follow up on leads developed
    • Visit customers to build a lead and opportunity pipeline
    • Run the negotiations with the customer and secure the business to the agreed margins, as well as ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the sales process.
    • Participate and contribute with the various risk assessments in order to ensure the proper balance between price and quality.
    • Chart out and monitors sales proposals and tenders (e.g. quantity, margin, product/ system), and follow up statistics concerning sales proposals.
    • Ensure that payments from the customer are received in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract in order to avoid due payments.
    • Ensure that the sales proposals submitted are followed up and agreements are signed, and that they are in line with established requirements of the unit.
    • Meet the expected number of customer visits as established in the target setting with the Sales Manager.
    • Ensure that the customer database is maintained updated with customer information, contact persons, businesses and activities.
    • Ensure that contracts are executed correctly and that deliveries (products, goods and/or services) are on time at the agreed cost, with the assistance of administrative sales support
    • Ensure that the customer is satisfied and that any customer complaints is registered in database

    Qualifications for the role

    • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering
    • 10 years + Service Sales experience in low voltage and medium voltage market
    • Extensive knowledge within the utilities industry
    • Proven track record of consistently surpassing targets
    • Excellent knowledge of ABB service offering
    • Good knowledge of ABB products/systems and service solutions
    • Significant sales drive, focus energy to achieve and close profitable deals. Ability to push himself/herself to develop in line with the changes in the organization
    • Excellent skills in Customer relations: Show a mature selling behavior and actively drives discussions and negotiations to the benefit of the business with customers
    • Good knowledge in contract negotiations and contract risk management
    • Good knowledge of the NEC Contract
    • Understand and use sales processes and related tools
    • Knowledge of ABB health and safety procedures
    • Ability to identify customer service needs and to match those with ABB service offerings.
    • Ability to find innovative solutions to meet customer service requirements.
    • Ability to accurately estimate costs of service offerings
    • Actively demonstrates one ABB approach including teamwork ahead of personal objectives
    • Preference will be given to Employment Equity Candidates.
