    Senior Data Scientist

    The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for preparing and analysing large data sets in order to apply appropriate data science techniques (statistics / simulation / optimisation/ machine learning, etc) to drive predictive & prescriptive intelligence for business applications.

    Responsible for the design, engineering, development, operationalisation and modification of complex and/or specialised data science products in accordance with sound analytical principles and standards to drive critical value-adding business decisions.

    The Senior Data Scientist will forge strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders to understand business needs; develop data science products in a way that maximises user buy-in while recognising and capitalising on new improvement opportunities to extract business value. He/she will also support the embedding of data capabilities and way of working within the business.

    He/she will stay abreast of new/alternative techniques and/or tools for relevant application in the Sasol Energy business.

    In addition, the senior data scientist will support and mentor junior data scientists in team.

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    1. Lead and influence the design, engineering, development and modifications of Data Science products in accordance with sound analytical principles and data science standards to satisfy business requirements.
    2. Translate business questions and opportunities into specific quantitative questions that can be answered with available data using appropriate data science techniques (statistics / simulation / optimisation/ machine learning, etc).
    3. Define, apply and update Data Science best practices and standards.
    4. Ensure that solutions are sustainable and adequately packaged for support handover.
    5. Play Lead Data Scientist role on multiple projects that may apply Agile/Waterfall project execution.
    6. Validate own and other's work to identify possible areas for improvement of efficiency, effectiveness to ensure and improve the quality and accuracy of the data science products.
    7. Provide guidance to inexperienced team members as and when required.
    8. Conduct written and verbal presentation to share insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication.
    9. Actively seek customers where support could be offered and proactively identify real business needs.
    10. Research trends in data science tools and techniques for continuous improvement.
    11. Participate in and contribute to the Sasol Data Science CoP sessions and share own ideas / knowledge / experience within the Sasol Data Science community.

    Formal Education

    4-year Bachelor’s degree ideally in Statistics / Mathematics / Data Science / Operations Research / Engineering. Master’s degree in above will be advantageous.

    Min Experience

    1. At least 8 years of relevant business experience with excellent record of project delivery using more than one of the following data science modelling techniques (statistical, machine learning, simulation, optimisation).
    2. Fluency in computer programming and data structures, with advanced capabilities in using data science toolkits such as R & Python. Excellence in R is ideal.
    3. Demonstrated experience in implementing ML algorithms in the production instance together with the necessary end-to-end data pipelines to address specific business problems.
    4. Experience in Agile project delivery is required
    5. Experience as a data scientist with one of the big tier consulting firms.
    6. Previous data science delivery in retail / go-to-market sector with focus in one or more areas of price & promotion optimisation / margin or cost optimisation / inventory optimisation /sales and operations planning will be preferred.
    7. Experience in any of the following (Cloud (preferably Azure), Databricks, SQL, Docker, Spark, RShiny, PowerBI, Git)

    Electrical Engineer II

    Short Description/ Purpose of Job

    Utilize a sound level of experience in electrical Engineering to: manage and/or execute the design, engineering, development and modification of electrical systems in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy the business requirements. This will require a broad base of electrical engineering knowledge and competence, relating to electrical network planning/design and process plants.

    Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities

    Apply detailed knowledge in defined fields of electrical engineering:

    • Electrical network analysis in Digsilent Powerfactory. Conduct power system analysis studies e.g. load flow studies, fault level studies and motor starting studies.
    • Detail knowledge, the integration and understanding the failure mode(s) of Switchgear, Transformers, Cables, Motors, Protection Relays etc. and the specification of these equipment in an electrical power system.
    • Selection of electrical equipment for use in hazardous locations.
    • Specialized engineering solutions.
    • Perform efficient and high-quality Engineering Site Support (including Standby duties) in order to assist plant personnel during support activities, Root cause Analysis and investigations.
    • Should be able to perform commissioning activities - Provide Technical inputs and support as well as the ability to do fault finding and to lead and coordinate these commissioning activities.
    • Experienced and proficient with the various protection relays used on the Sasolburg site (e.g. RE_543, RE_615,_RE_630, REA-arc protection relays, SPAJ140C / SPAM150C, etc.)
    • Governance & Site Support and contribute to site wide standardization, including Geographical Load forecasting and the development of special solutions.
    • Assist to create, develop and update electrical engineering systems, tools and standards.
    • Deliver electrical engineering equipment support to ensure that the technical ability of the business meets operating results.
    • Support and give technology guidance to business units and equipment owners. Audit current systems and technologies and do gap analysis with alignment planning.
    • Develop, track and govern maintenance strategies for new and legacy systems. Audit maintenance procedures and installations.
    • Detail Engineering calculations to, review the schematic drawings and relay logics, calculate protection settings and grading development for existing and new installations and review protection setting and grading study proposed by external consultants.
    • Provide alignment and inputs into strategic sourcing initiatives/ forums, development of standard documentation in collaboration with international best practices and standards.
    • Develop technical and engineering skills of EITs (Engineer in Training) through coaching.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, safety and operational reliability requirements.

    Projects:

    • The ability to formulate and execute the electrical Engineering scope for Tier 5 and Tier 4 multidisciplinary and single discipline projects (in both brown or green field project environments).
    • Ensure and maintain awareness of best practices.
    • Utilize electrical engineering systems, tools and standards in all projects.
    • Contribute to project technical development strategies and execution as well as contracting and selection of suppliers.
    • Develop and manage project execution planning with respect to electrical engineering.
    • Review, comment, guide and govern the design process and deliverables from ECs, OEMs and other engineers.
    • Ensure project success through adherence to cost, schedule and quality targets for project scope.
    • Comment on or develop technical design packages for projects (front end loading, concept, basic and detail engineering).

    Snr Manager Project Controls Subs & Well Delivery

    Short Description / Purpose of Job

    • Provide a comprehensive project controls service to subsurface and well delivery, supporting the VP Project Controls and Project Managers and acts as a central point of accountability and communication for all project controls activities.
    • Manage the people, processes and tools used to plan, manage and mitigate cost and schedule issues and any risk and change events that may impact the project.

    • Lead the project controls team to ensure accurate and timely project controls. Review teams plans frequently to lend assurance to the delivery of intended project objectives. Manage deliverables and milestones of the team and align both to established project controls and standards.

    • Consolidate, report, and provide accurate feedback on project progress by liaising with project planners and managers.

    Snr Electrical Engineer

     Manage and / or execute the design, engineering, development and modification of complex and / or specialised electrical systems (typically Tier 1 or a programme of projects) in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements.Manage and guide subordinates, providing technical direction to several smaller projects.
