    Senior Credit AGRI Sanctioner (EE)

    Job description

    • Senior Credit Agri Sanctioner
    • Agricultural Experience ESSENTIAL
    • Credit AGRI experience

    Overall Job Purpose

    To deliver credit assessment, credit portfolio management and lending decisions within mandate / personal discretion for high value and complex Agri Business Banking clients as well as stakeholder engagement with key credit and business solution deliverables.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Accountability: Credit Risk Assessment & Portfolio Management
      • Consider mostly high value and complex agri credit applications in order to determine lending appetite, financing solutions and structures (i.e. capital, long-term, working capital) to adequately meet the financing needs of Absa Business Banking Agri clients in mostly the Key and Premium CVP’s. Approve credit applications in accordance with approved lending criteria in line with Absa's lending policies and standards.
      • Mitigate financial and other credit risks for Absa and its clients by requesting security in line with the credit policy.
      • Participate in the formulation and implementation of lending strategies, risk appetite and lending criteria by providing feedback and suggestions to the Head Agri Credit based on market trends, actual client interaction / experience and industry research.
      • Manage critical success factors with Relationship Executives (RE's) and Credit Teams to ensure that appropriate credit risk decisions are taken by pro-actively communicating and interacting with RE's in order to solution client financing needs.
      • Monitor and manage a dedicated portfolio of clients against agreed Absa Business Banking strategies and portfolio credit requirements in order to improve the overall quality of the portfolio by referring to approved credit policy and target market criteria.
      • Ensure high standards of credit discipline are applied to portfolio monitoring and control activities, especially unauthorised excesses, unrated exposures and overdue reviews by referring to the relevant credit systems, i.e. Global Credit Information System (GCIS), Credit Management System (CMS) or Review Manager.
      • Maintain credit records as required per standard instructions in terms of GCIS and other recording systems by verifying for correctness and forwarding GCIS templates for uploading to the GCIS capturing team.
      • Maintain awareness of Basel, South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and other regulatory requirements by attending workshops and referring to relevant training material and circulars.
      • Ensure that up-skilling is maintained in terms of industry-specific and lending principles in general by attending workshops, reading / studying of industry related publications and participating in training
    • Accountability: Business Management
      • Maintain a network of internal stakeholders and Agri industry professionals to maximize financial benefit for the Bank and to stay abreast of best practices by attending industry workshops, seminars and conferences.
      • Management of credit and impairment risk to maintain an appropriate level of impairment and classification of Early Warning List (EWL) clients by referring relevant cases to the Business Support department and completing required strategy sheets, i.e. financial information, background, value of security.
      • Assist the Business Support department with the management of high value and complex high risk client exposures from a specialist industry perspective by means of client visits, completion of strategy sheets (including suggested solutions), attending monthly impairment meetings to provide specialist input.
      • Adherence to governance, compliance and lending portfolio controls and
      • management information by referring to relevant policy guidelines and circulars.
      • Responsible for the sharing of specialist knowledge and experience, including
      • provision of technical solutions, innovative ideas and best practices within own and across other credit teams, specifically also to junior credit managers and relationship executives with a primary aim to enhance external customer value.
      • Proactively adopt, execute and implement change initiatives agreed with Agri Business Banking Credit management in support of overall BB Agri Credit strategy and change initiatives.
    • Accountability: Customer Service
      • Maintain a professional image (appearance, industry knowledge, etc.) of Business Banking Credit during all client interactions.
      • Maintain minimum agreed levels of interaction with relationship executives and clients in the Key and Premium CVP. Identify additional income generating opportunities when dealing with customers and add exceptional value to all customer relationships when interacting directly with customers.
      • Provide solutions to clients and RE’s by being pro-active, solution driven and client focused
    • Accountability: Support
      • Promote Business Banking Credit with relationship teams, peers, junior credit sanctioners, external customers and industry specialists (i.e. academics, scientists, industry leaders) by delivering excellent service, quick turn-around and professional advice.
      • Support team members in terms of stand-in portfolio management during client visits, leave and other "out-of-office" requirements by team members.
      • Maintain and support a positive working environment in the larger Business Banking Credit Team by supporting team members, proposing pro-active solutions to problems, etc.
      • Provide innovate solutions to enhance working / output and relevance of Business Banking Credit by making suggestions to improve the output and value-add of the credit team.

    Education and Experience Required:

    Education:

    At least B-degree in (Economics, Accounting, Finance, Business Management) (NQF level no. 6)

    Experience:

    • 5 years credit management experience, preferably in an Agri environment
    • 5 years lending experience with a personal mandate higher than R20 million or credit analyst experience in the Large / Corporate Business banking environment.
    • Minimum of 10 years commercial or corporate banking experience

    Manager Asset Disposal Unit (EE)

    Job description

    ESSENTIAL Experience

    Commercial Asset Finance and commercial property experience – sales, strategy and administrative process expertise.

    Overall Job Purpose:

    Oversee the activities of the Asset Disposal unit ensuring that values are optimised on asset sales within the shortest period.

    Key Accountabilities:

     

    • Accountability: Management of Distressed Assets
      • Oversee the activities of the Asset Disposal Unit such that:
      • The management of all distressed assets is optimised along the theme of “Maximise Values, Do it fast”;
      • Leadership is provided on the creation of strategies, together with the Manager: CAF Collections and Manager: CAF Legal Recovery Services, focused on facilitating the movement of all assets classified as “Assets not in possession” into the “Assets in possession” within the shortest possible time. Ensure that these strategies are executed as planned and that proper reporting and measurement is in place;
      • Provide oversight for the activities of the Specialists: Collateral Management such that the departments goals are achieved and exceeded whilst maintaining a sound control environment and good risk governance;
      • Support is provided to other departments within CAF Collections and Recoveries on matters pertaining to restructures of irregular accounts, settling matters involving liens and / or retentions and the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date Asset Register;
      • All Policies, Standards, Procedures and Process maps relevant to the ADU department are kept up to date and are strictly adhered to;
      • Stock takes are carried out as prescribed (and are accurate) and that assets are at all times properly accounted for;
      • Current trends in best practise on Asset Management and in market conditions relating to the sale of assets are monitored and that the impact on the unit or the potential impact is understood and the departments goals proactively adjusted to take account of these;
      • Expert advice is provided to all stakeholders and staff on matters pertaining to the disposal of assets including taking such assets into possession, clearing these for sale and the sale of said assets;
      • The management of assets with Alliances and Joint Ventures is maximised in the same manner as those of the CAF assets as described above.
    • Accountability: Business Management
      • Coach and support members of the team by assisting in their technical and personal development;
      • Monitor that all staff adhere to all governance and compliance requirements;
      • Proactively adapt, execute and implement change initiatives agreed with senior management in support of the departments goals;
      • Develop and maintain key management information to provide an understanding of (1) Key Performance Indicators, (2) Productivity Measurements for the department and on an individual staff level;
      • Act as a key member of the CAF Collections and Recoveries management team providing insight and a contribution the management of the business unit;
      • Provide strategic insights and direction to the Head: CAF Collections & Recoveries on all business matters including insights into the type of assets which should be financed and what conditions should be set per asset class. Utilise specialist knowledge of asset prices to inform policy formulation including the setting of impairment policy.
    • Accountability: Customer Service
      • Develop and maintain sound business relationships with suppliers and role players in the asset disposal chain;
      • Manage & maintain internal relationships within Absa such that the objectives of the ADU department & CAF Recoveries and Collections are maximised;
      • The relationships with Auctioneers, Valuations specialists, RMO’s, EDC’s and other Service Providers is maximised in line with the departments goals
      • Accountability: People Management
      • Develop a high performing team by conducting daily/weekly/monthly operational performance discussions and assisting employees to prepare the portfolio of evidence for formal performance development discussions.
      • Based on training plans agreed with staff in the area, monitor team members to ensure that planned compliance training is undertaken.
      • Establish and maintain a succession plan for direct reports.
      • Together HR Business Partner, interview candidates and provide input into the recruitment decision for recruitment purposes.
      • Review and update the team’s role profiles on an annual basis to ensure that they are fit for purpose and contain all the accountabilities of each team member. Explain any updates to team members.
      • Review leave captured on the employee system (ESS) to ensure that all leave was captured.
      • Monitor overtime and ensure that it is kept to a minimum. Ensure that all overtime is pre-approved.
      • When required, initiate and facilitate disciplinary processes for team members.
      • Execute EOS (Employee Opinion Survey) action items as assigned.
      • Accountability: All other duties as reasonably assigned by Line Manager

     

    Education and Experience Required:

    Education

    • B.Com (Accountancy, Business Economics)
    • Diploma in Credit / Financial Management
    • Post Graduate Qualification (Banking, Legal, Business Qualification)

    Experience Required

    • A minimum of 10 (Ten) year’s banking experience
    • Experience leadership position
    • Ability to function independently, across functional levels and on a matrix basis
    • 5 (Five) years working experience in an Asset Finance environment.
    • Working experience of RBB Business Market Credit and Impairment policies
    • Working knowledge of Legal background in terms of insolvencies / liquidations / commercial litigation.
