    Paint Operator

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To operate shot blasting and preparation equipment.
    • To prepare and apply paint & other industrial coatings to Car-bodies and manufactured items.   
    • To perform self inspections before, during and after painting in accordance with the Instructions and standards

    MAIN RESPONSABILITIES  

    • Be proactive in the EHS risk situation
    • To use the safety equipment and rules defined
    • Preparation of surfaces to be painted, Sanding - wet/dry rubbing, masking etc
    • Sand and/or shot and/or hydro and/or grit blasting of parts and assemblies in preparation for fabrication or painting.
    • Apply body filler, putty to repair dents and surface imperfections
    • Apply sealants and adhesives.
    • Apply primer/anticorrosive coatings manually with brushes and with spray guns.
    • Application of sound-deadening materials, antislip, bodyguard
    • Spraying of enamel and/or paint to bogie and/or underframe and/or pre-manufactured components under supervision
    • Manual and spray application of solvent and water borne topcoats (such as paint, lacquer, enamel, epoxy and 2K paints) onto manufactured products to provide finished surfaces. Use formulas given in instruction to mix the paint to be applied.
    • Apply final stopping/spot putty.
    • Touch up and blending of defective areas of painted items.
    • Mark up and demarcate lines,
    • Apply decals and stencils
    • Assembly/fit post paint fittings such as rivet nuts etc
    • Operate hand, power tools and machinery used in paint shop.
    • Operate spray paint equipment cup guns, pressure pots, airless and air assisted airless pumps.
    • Housekeeping duties
    • Ensure and comply with safety standards guidelines, policies, and procedures.

     MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

    Educational Requirements
    Mandatory:

    • Grade 12 / N3

    Desirable:

    • Spray paint training
    • Experience

    Mandatory:

    • At least 3 - 5 years relevant experience in the paint shop.
    • Spray paint using cup guns, pressure pots, airless pumps and air assisted airless equipment.
    • Experience in preparation, masking and sanding for paint.
    • Knowledge of painting processes

     
    Desirable:

    • Painting in railway industry
    • Knowledge of shot blasting is advantageous

    Responsibilities and objectives:

    Accountable and Responsible for :

    • Performing project General studies activities in compliance with QCD commitments. (Gauge, Weight, Infrastructure physical interfaces).
    • Defining volume allocation for Carbodyshell; bogie; traction and train layout equipment’s, considering (outputs of thier scope) operation main dimensions (passengers, crew, maintenance); carry over; components performances.
    • Management of GS Layout and calculation notes; TRS
    • Tasks related to Design reviews
    • Define dimensional and weight constraints related to thier scope
    • Asses SBS activity & deliverables related to weight constraints (SBS consolidate Supplier component weight)
    • Agree/Manage the needed with SSL; SBS MLE; Train Design métier Domain leaders, upon delegation of TDMM
    • Planning and piloting general studies activities and related deliverables on project taking into account applicable instructions/processes and other specific Customer (internal or external) requirements.
    • Ensuring Mechanical Intergration deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits.
    • Reporting on Mechanical integration and general studies activities progress and alerting relevant N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting achievement of QCD commitments.
    • Defining requirements and Mechanical interfaces to equipment (Allocated volume, weight, location, 3PL, etc.).
    • Monitoring assigned Mechanical Sub-Systems deliveries conformity with project needs.
    • Checking supplier's and sub-contractor's Design Quality 

    Responsible for :

    • Planning and piloting Mechanical Integration Domain activities and related deliverables on project taking into account applicable instructions/processes and other specific Customer (internal or external) requirements.
    • Applying TD rules, processes and tools (single-domain) and ensuring Mechanical Domain deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits.
    • Managing production of deliverables in accordance with planning targets on Mechanical Integration Domain
    • Designing products taking into account project requirements (performances, manufacturability, serviceability, testability, etc.).
    • Preparing and documenting Mechanical Integration Domain Design Reviews according to project schedule and following-up the main open actions.
    • Lead collaborator for Train Design Engineering(TDE) with the Stakeholders and Suppliers.
    • Checking respect of Allocated volumes/interfaces (no-clashes) on internal design.
    • Resolving Project Mechanical Integration Domain issues and following challenging actions
    • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Project Mechanical Integration Domain scope.
    • Reporting on Mechanical Integration Domain activities progress, anticipating issues (capacity, skills, rule applicability, etc.) and alerting if needed.
    • Respecting and/or allocating requirements and Mechanical interfaces to Sub-Systems/equipments (Allocated volume, weight, location, 3PL, etc.)
    • Coordinating Mechanical Integration Domain contributors on Project.
    • Analysing and consolidating change request impacts on Mechanical Integration Domain scope
    • Producing Mechanical Integration Domain deliverables (Requirements Spec & Architecture Description Level2, Validation Plan, etc.)
    • Validating relevant Mechanical Integration Domain deliverables and securing planning.

    • Supporting Sourcing, Industrialization and Manufacturing teams during Production ramp-up.

    Gibela Rail Transport Consortium invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of a Lead Buyer-Subsystems reporting to a Sourcing Manager-Subsystems. The successful candidate will be based in Midrand.

    The purpose of the role  for the incumbent to be involved in the deployment of the commodities strategy. Ensure project execution in line with QCDT objectives. Support global supplier panel relationship (Supplier workload, negotiation, Specific agreement)

    Responsibilities and objectives:

    Supplier relationship:

    • Identification of project and business needs.                                                                                                      
    • Preparation and launch of Request for Quotation with suppliers using standard tools.
    • Negotiation of cost reduction with suppliers.
    • Inputs provider/contributor for order placement.
    • Ensure Quality, Cost, Delivery & Economic Development targets achieved, CONQ (Cost of Non Quality) & claims management.
    • Lead supplier Quality, Cost, Delivery & Economic Development performance reviews.
    • Collaborate with Internal stakeholders, Facilitate and Manage Quality, Cost, Delivery and Technical Performance reviews.

    • Manage consignment stock coverage for trains in warranty
    • Supplier database coverage for all indirect scopes
    • Obtain pricing for spare parts on time
    • Turnaround of PO placement within scope
    • Price exclamation done on time
    • Ensure compliance to PPA (technical and ED obligations)
    • Perform none compliance escalated contractually
    • Implement claims for none performance instituted 
    • Finance - No degradation to LCC resulting from second source supplier onboarding
    • Consolidate and report on delivery against savings targets for commodities

    Business understanding and desired knowledge/experience

    • National Diploma in Logistics or equivalent. BS or BCom in Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Information Technology or other business related field.
    • Minimum 6-10 years of experience in Procurement  / Strategic Sourcing
    • Purchasing professional background and/or Quality /supply chain/technical background.
    • Rail industry and related manufacturing experience will be an advantage
