    Diesel Mechanic

    Role Description
    The purpose of the role is to deliver applied trade as and when required. It is responsible for the day to day legal preventative
    maintenance of TMMs. The role reports to the Charge Hand

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 or N3 in the relevant field
    • Relevant Trade Certificate through a recognised institution and apprenticeship (section 13/26D) in Diesel Mechanic.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience as an appointed Diesel Mechanic is essential, of which 3 years should be in an underground Trackless mining environment.
    • Knowledge on Hydraulics or relevant experience is essential
    • Knowledge of diesel engine components
    • Conversant with the requirements of Mine Health & Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996)
    • Knowledge of planned maintenance

    Job Requirements

    • Provide subject matter expertise and skills in the area of responsibility; advising on solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the department/section.
    • Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
    • Analysing diagnostic test results.
    • Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems.

    Charge Hand

    Role Description
    The role is responsible for assisting the TMM Foreman on day to day running of the section, preventative legal maintenance of TMMs, procure and avail required TMM spares and supervision of TMM crews /artisans. The role reports to the TMM Foreman.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 or N3 in the relevant field
    • Relevant Trade Certificate through a recognised institution and apprenticeship in one of the following trades (Auto Electrician/ Diesel Mechanic/ Fitter and/or Electrician)
    • Minimum of 4 years’ post qualification experience is essential, of which 3 years should be in an underground Trackless mining environment.
    • Law and standard/legal liability will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    TMM Foreman

    Role Description
    Co-ordinate the maintenance activities to ensure effective maintenance according to organisational requirements and delegate tasks to subordinates to ensure safe installation, running and maintenance of equipment / TMM (Trackless Mobile Machinery & Track Bound) for optimum availability at the lowest cost. The role reports to the General Engineering Supervisor – TMM and will carry a 2.9.2 legal appointment

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 or N3 in the relevant field
    • Relevant Trade Certificate through a recognised institution and apprenticeship in one of the following trades (Diesel Mechanic/ Auto Electrician/ Fitter or Electrician).
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an appointed artisan on TMMs in the mining industry.
    • Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering (N6) will be advantageous.
    • Supervisory Development Programme or Leadership Development Programme or equivalent will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    Shaft Timberman

    Role Description
    This role is responsible for maintaining equipment (Shafts and Water Tunnels) according to sound practices and equipment specifications. The role reports to the Shaft Foreman.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
    • Blasting Certificate for underground hard rock or equivalent
    • Onsetter Certificate is essential
    • Minimum of 3 years Shaft Timberman experience at metalliferous mines, which must also include at least 3 years as an appointed Onsetter in a vertical shaft
    • Vertical Shaft repair experience is essential
    • Shift Supervisor Certificate will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    Effective Shaft Maintenance:

    • Enforce compliance and adherence to Health and Safety Policy, standards, procedures, and rules
    • Plan activities in accordance with operational and maintenance schedules and allocate resources as required
    • Responsible for planning, controlling, leading, and organising repairs and breakdowns

    Strata Control Officer

    Role Description

    The Strata Control Officer is responsible for making observations and measurements underground to test the stability of the underground excavations and to provide support to the Rock Engineer and to the business unit. The role reports to the Rock Engineer.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 with numeracy and literacy or equivalent NQF qualification
    • Chamber of Mines Certificate in Strata Control
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience appointed as a Strata Control Officer in a Hard Rock underground mine
    • Relevant tertiary qualification (B.Sc. Geology/ B.Tech Mining/ B.Sc. Mining) will be advantageous
    • Bushveld experience will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    • Assist with the testing and reporting of support units
    • Provide technical training to miners and shift supervisors
    • Monitor support system performance
    • Geotechnical core logging, do RQD assessments
    • Geotechnical underground logging and assessments
    • Investigate and report strata control problems
    • Update rock engineering plans
    • Assess the quality of installed secondary support and do audit reports
    • Report on observations made underground
    • Preparation of rock samples for strength testing purposes
    • Participate with start-ups and risk assessments

    Strata Control Observer

    Role Description

    The Strata Control Observer is responsible for making observations and measurements underground to ensure the compliance of the mining team in terms of support installation. They too are responsible to test the stability of the underground excavations and to provide support to the Rock Engineer and to the business unit. The role reports to the Strata Control Officer.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 with numeracy and literacy or equivalent NQF qualification
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience appointed as a Strata Control Observer or Geotechnical Observer in a Hard Rock underground mine
    • Certification in Strata Control or part thereof is advantageous
    • Bushveld experience will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    • Assist with the training and quality control of the installed support units
    • Provide coaching to miners and shift supervisors
    • Monitor support system performance
    • Investigate and report ground control problems
    • Update rock engineering plans
    • Conduct comprehensive daily audits of all working places
    • Assess the quality of installed secondary support
    • Report on observations made underground
    • Participate with start-ups and risk assessments
    • Participate with FOG investigations
    • Assist with the management of the TARP process at the mine
    • Applicant will be required to work both day shift and nightshift rotations

    Shift Supervisor – Mining

    Role Description

    This role is responsible for monitoring and controlling the production process by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to attain the production targets. The role reports to the Mine Overseer. The role will carry a 2.15.1 appointment in assisting the Manager to execute responsibilities as placed on the Manager on the day to day running of operations

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
    • Blasting Certificate for underground hard rock or equivalent
    • Shiftboss Certificate
    • Minimum of 6 years’ underground mining experience at metalliferous mines, which must be in a mechanised mining development and stoping (Bord and Pillar) environment and 3 years’ underground supervisory experience as an appointed Shift Supervisor
    • Mine Overseer Certificate will be advantageous
    • Mine Managers Certificate will be advantageous
    • Mining Engineering Degree or B-Tech in Mining or equivalent qualification will be advantageous

    Job Requirements

    • Responsible for ensuring proper ventilation underground
