    General Manager: Tailings RSA

    PURPOSE

    The purpose of the General Manager is to lead the FAT RSA Divisional operations, through setting Divisional strategy, translating it into tactical goals, and enabling operational excellence across multiple functions. The General Manager's focus is positioning the Division as a profitable business within FA, as well as building market share and business reputation with current and new customers.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Management

    • Determine, in conjunction with the COO and other MANCO members, the strategic vision, objectives, and operating criteria for the immediate, medium and long-term for operations
    • Oversee the conversion of the agreed strategy into action
    • Grow the business in line with the strategic business plans

    Financial Management

    • Provide governance oversight for all business units, regions and projects in the Division, through appropriate financial reporting and analysis
    • Manage profitability for the Division, ensuring appropriate cost controls, as well as income generation and reporting
    • Work with the BI Department to implement operational efficiencies and savings programs

    Risk Management and Compliance Including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Responsibility

    • Provide risk management leadership in the Division
    • Ensure the company's policy on social responsibility is applied effectively, and aligned with customer requirements
    • Align the Division to all ESG requirements from Group and from the customers and ensure full compliance across the Division
    • Provide safety leadership and build a culture of Zero Harm across the Division

    Operations and Project Management

    • Ensure that an appropriate mix of product offerings, project sizes and locations are achieved, for optimal Divisional profitability and efficiency
    • Ensure that all projects are managed and executed according to best practice for operations, technology, resource and stakeholder management, and take corrective action to address deviations
    • Drive project management excellence across the Division

    Management Operating Systems and Reporting

    • Define Divisional reporting requirements and ensure appropriate management control systems are put in place to meet those requirements, including forecasts, plans, execution controls and monitoring, reports, meetings and forums, and corrective actions
    • Comply with all executive and Group reporting requirements on the Division, and take full accountability for Divisional performance, as per agreed standards and parameters

    SHEQ Management

    • Ensure appropriate implementation of and compliance to all SHEQ Group, legislative and Divisional requirements across all operations
    • Own the risk register for the Division, and ensure that all regions and projects appropriately identify, manage and mitigate risks
    • Understand Client SHEQ requirements and always ensure full compliance

    Staff Management

    • Manage all direct reports across the people management spectrum – including  recruitment, performance development, labour relations, safety and health, employee wellbeing
    • Drive maturity and high emotional intelligence in leaders across the Division
    • Be a coach and mentor to senior managers in the Division

    Culture and Climate

    • Build a culture of continuous improvement and Zero Harm within the Division, business units, regions and projects
    • Ensure that any conflicts or challenges within a client culture is managed appropriately to maintain and enhance client relationships

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Engineering Degree or BTech Engineering (Mining / Metallurgical or similar) – MSc preferred
    • Senior management qualification (MBA preferred)
    • Commercial Diploma or Certificate

    EXPERIENCE

    • At least 10 – 15 years mining / mineral processing experience, including remining and tailings deposition management
    • At least 10 – 15 years relevant experience in respect of managing complex projects, preferably in tailings / mining / industrial manufacturing, with emphasis being placed on project management; construction and contract; financial, risk, commercial and legal management; operational planning, safety and implementation; HR management
    • 8 – 10 years' engineering experience in a mining / tailings / processing environment, preferably on complex projects
    • Five years experience as Business Unit Manager in Tailings, or similar HOD management level in mining preferred

    Requirements

    Finance Manager

    Description

    This position is responsible for the full spectrum of financial and management accounting, including regulatory reporting for the responsible divisions within Fraser Alexander and day to day operational procurement. The incumbent will be responsible for the financial management of both the Tailings and Mineral Processing divisions of Fraser Alexander within South Africa.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Management

    • Co-ordinating the planning and budgeting processes, setting financial targets and key performance indicators for the division
    • Assessment of and providing input on balance sheet management (assets and liabilities)
    • Ensuring debt collection is controlled as per contractual arrangements with clients
    • Ensuring that systems and processes for financial administration and control and protection of the division’s resources and assets are adhered to
    • Participate at Group level in the development and implementation of corporate governance, tax and statutory accounting standards
    • Overseeing of correct application of commercial contracts (revenue and costs)
    • Promoting arrangements to identify and manage key business risks, including safeguarding assets, risk mitigation and insurance
    • Overseeing of capital projects and post completion reviews
    • Applying discipline in financial management, including monitoring debt collection, cash flow, approval of expenditure and ensuring contractual terms for revenue escalations are affected

    Enterprise Risk Management

    • Management of financial risks at divisional level in accordance with group enterprise risk management policy
    • Participate in group risk assessment process and mitigation of risks
    • Preparation of divisional enterprise risk management report

    Reporting

    • Review of monthly divisional reporting
    • Oversight and review of divisional budget, including detailed supporting schedules
    • Preparation/review of input for Manco, Exco and board financial reports
    • Ensuring compliance with statistical and other government departmental requirements related to Finance as specified by Group

    Commercial Management

    • Review of tenders and other client proposals to ensure corporate guidelines and financial principles for assessment of financial viability of the tender or proposal have been adhered to
    • Review contract documentation and ensure that financial risks have been properly taken into account and mitigated where feasible
    • Preparation of financial feasibility models for tenders/ proposals

    Taxation

    • Provide assistance with any SARS queries related to the division
    • Monitoring of tax compliance as part of development of tenders and other proposals
    • Participate in tax planning during budgeting process
    • In depth offshore tax knowledge (direct and indirect taxes)

    Team Management and Collaboration

    • Ongoing collaboration with the COO and CFO and his/her direct reports regarding financial, commercial, enterprise risk management and IT related matters
    • Management of SLA’s for ERP and HRM systems to ensure optimal service, thereby enhancing team effectiveness

    Divisional Strategy

    • Provide assistance with the development and implementation of divisional strategy within the framework of group strategy
    • Actively involved in, and able to bring influence to bear on, all material divisional decisions to ensure that implications, opportunities, and risks are fully considered

    Internal and External Audits

    • Review of audit findings related to divisional processes and coordinate management comments
    • Implement any relevant improvements/recommendations
    • Provide assistance in carrying out internal and external audits

    Supplier and Procurement Management

    • Negotiate the best prices and contract/purchasing terms with key suppliers
    • Ensure compliance and adherence to Group procurement procedures
    • Ensure divisional procurement savings initiative are achieved

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • CA (SA) with completed articles

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 10 years experience post articles
    • Mining, construction or manufacturing industry work experience preferable
    • Exposure to commercial management and contracts
    • Must have been a member of senior management previously
