    Advisor, Legal, Global Markets, Financial Instruments - Johannesburg

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • This role is in the Standard Bank Commercial and Investment Bank Global Markets Legal team. This position is for a mid-level lawyer with Global Markets (GM) experience who will be one of the initial points of contact for all legal work emanating from the GM business including the various GM trading desks, emanating from South Africa and across the Group. The role is predominantly transactional focused and in respect of this part of the role, the candidate will be required to integrate himself/herself into the business, providing real time complex legal and structuring advice on transactions.
    • The role will require oversight and management of structured transactions from front to back, commencing with client negotiations, structuring and pre-trade documentation including master agreements to assisting business with the close and finalisation of structured trade confirmations. The balance of the role is focused on the drafting and negotiation of master agreements, including the ISDA and GMRA. For this work the candidate will be fully integrated into the existing master agreements team, taking instruction and advising business teams across the Standard Bank Group.
    • This role will work closely with the GM Legal AR team both in the drafting of master agreements and the management of structured derivative transactions across the Group’s Africa footprint in order to ensure consistent legal risk management across the breadth of the banking business.
    • More generally, the lawyer will be required, with the support of senior lawyers, to be a leader in the fulfilment of GM Legal’s role in (i) the management, identification and mitigation of complex legal risks across the GM business in South Africa and across GM franchise and (ii) the provision of accurate, expert and specialised advice on legal and regulatory matters including by way of direct involvement in the structuring of the transactions in line with the relevant GM and general banking practices, procedures and regulations.
