    Senior Instrumentation Technician

    Job Description

    As part of this team, you will be expected to successfully manage these duties:

    • Management of the equipment within the process control domain
    • Best practice for instrumentation developed within relevant legal and safety frameworks
    • Audit high risk and safety critical areas
    • Identify areas of poor availability
    • Conducting modifications to the control solution for process problems
    • System troubleshooting and hardware problems resolution
    • Support on existing instrumentation, networks and hardware
    • Calibration and maintenance of all equipment within the control solution
    • Schedule and prioritise maintenance tasks
    • Control monthly maintenance budgets for process control section

    Engineering Planner Asset Management

    Job Description

    Your day-to-day duties will include:

    Planning

    • Routine work approval – support FLM (Engineering Specialist/ Foreman) in preparation of Pre-planning management routine
    • Accountable for the collecting and collating of information required as per the Business Unit specific Pre-Planning guidelines
    • Accountable for the work package (Work Management Design Principles and Configuration) creation of all approved work, inclusive of: ADHOC, WSS, and where required Urgent Work
    • Discuss any ongoing problems as well as recovery plans if not performing against plan and provide recommendations for improvement and monitor any actions required to get back on plan
    • Optimize the planning process to minimize changes and variability and maximise stability
    • Inspect work areas in mine to assess if any safety concerns and provide feedback to Engineering Specialist and develop action plan and implement to resolve any concerns. Monitor and follow up to ensure concerns addressed
    • Ensure mining work packages are fully planned daily, providing scheduling tasks to Work Management Schedulers
    • Review the Work Order Task Status Report daily to assist in prioritising the planning work and track upcoming work
    • Plan approved work orders for resource allocation and execution prior to Required Date.
    • Develop and use standard job templates to improve the efficiency of the planning process
    • Support the work management process by identifying that all required resources for approved work are identified on the work order

    Technical Integrity of Engineering Planning

    • Ensure efficient engineering operational execution by maintaining conformance to all engineering related mine planning related standards

    • Meet mining objectives by ensuring all planning systems are up to date and aligned with the 12-month plan and the Quarter plan.

    Systems Engineer

    PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS:

    • The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing all aspects of the mine’s production information management systems from cradle to grave. This will include analyzing current business processes across disciplines and identify gaps. Analyze current systems and validate against business processes. Identify and close gaps.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for Data Management and Integration Management of various technical systems.
    • Identifying and implementing automated decision making reports is a key responsibility.
    • While some specialized tasks, such as software upgrades, can be performed by Technical System Vendors, the day to day system and database administration will be performed by the incumbent.

    Apply specialist knowledge and skills to design, deploy and support the technical management systems that will manage and monitor the performance of the mines production units and that will enhance the abilities of analytical work to identify areas for improvement that advises the implementation of the business optimisation strategy at the operation.

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    It will be required of the successful incumbent to:

    • Be accountable for the data management policy
    • Be accountable for syber security on systems
    • Design and align system standards that are applied according to business and operational requirements and the correct application of the technologies thereof.
    • Fulfil a technical integration role for maintenance and governance between the various architectural components of the entire system (e.g. on-board hardware and firmware, wireless network, server components and user interfaces).
    • Develop effective automation processes with our suppliers for Workplace Services, ensuring usability and performance are managed effectively
    • Scope, plan and configure system, additions and enhancements from stakeholder discussions across departments.
    • Technical Reporting related to data management processes, systems improvements, data reviews/audits, data migrations and data pack preparations.
    • Gather, analyse and trend relevant mining activities information to compile automated reports according to departmental procedures and requirements.
    • Scope design and develop automated report to enhance decision making
    • Optimise/enhance individual operational systems to support a high level of maturity that includes the effective and correct usage of the systems (control room and operator interfaces) that drives the right operational KPI’s.
    • Manage and execute upgrade projects of new systems deployment in accordance to the designed functionality as defined in the operational required capability specifications.
    • Design and implement continuous network monitoring capabilities for the purpose of a highly reliable backbone that includes hardware reliability assessments, comprehensive network coverage in required areas and throughput (bandwidth) performance.
    • This role requires the incumbent to work underground on a shift configuration
    • Specify, advice and configure operational systems in accordance to supplier recommendation and aligned with operational requirements conducive for optimal data collection, data integrity and data integration.
    • Perform continuous monitoring reviews to make sure that the process aligns to the overall Enterprise Architecture and Governance system
    • Advanced knowledge of data architecture and integration architecture
    • Codifying and document work practices and procedures in accordance to operation technologies and systems requirements as coordinated and defined by Technical Systems Peer Group.
    • Train and coach technology end-users on operational application and procedures as specified in work practices and procedural documentation. Liaise with the skills development centre for updated documents for operational training on equipment licenses.
    • Participate in various technical management system Peer Group of Practice forums and learning interventions.
    • Networks with key internal and external stakeholders with regards to future technology strategies and align the mine accordingly to internally defined strategies.
    • Advance knowledge of the functionalities of existing technologies deployed at Venetia. In depth knowledge of the Mining (Open pit) and Ore Processing processes amongst others on the mine, Underground processes will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of Database administration and reporting capabilities.
    • General knowledge of Information Management and Information Security processes and procedures and how it is applied to current and future technologies.
    • Extensive knowledge of the infrastructure requirements, on-board systems functionalities, configuration and Control and Instrumentations functions on the mine.
    • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values.
    • Applies an in-depth understanding of the mining value chain and associated support services to establish and maintain efficient and effective technological solution that will enable the ability to collect data, integration capabilities and a high level of data integrity that will enhance business decisions and performance. Engages cross-functional teams to share best practice, ensuring technical excellence and sustainable decisions.
    • Enhancing existing technologies (operational technologies and control systems) and the implementation of effective operational process controls systems (Underground) will support rigorous data analysis and capability building programmes to enhance operational effectiveness. It is therefore important that the technologies (Control systems) are designed and driven to high level of maturity across the entire architecture of deployment and operated to the highest quality to enable continuously improving organisations performance.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)

    • Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualifications.
    • Relevant Degree in Information Technology (BSC Information Technology or BSC Computer science or equivalent)
    • 5 to 10 years’ experience in team management
    • 5 to 10 years’ experience in a mining environment.
    • 5 to 10 years’ experience in enterprise data architecture.
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in cloud based data storage technology
    • MCSE, MCSD or equivalent qualifications would advantageous.
    • Mining automation system experience would be advantageous
    • Valid EB/Code 8 Drivers License.
    • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine.
