KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Able to perform Civil Engineering designs using either of the following vendor’s suites of engineering software tools;
• Bentley Suite – Roads, site and drainage modelling using Bentley OpenRoads, and CAD production thereof using Bentley Microstation V8i, together with document management using Bentley ProjectWise.
•  AutoDesk Suite – Roads, site and drainage + utilities modelling using Autodesk Civil 3D 2018-2021, and CAD production thereof using Civil 3D (AutoCAD), together with hydraulic analysis using Devotech iDAS. Mastery of Autodesk InfraWorks, Navisworks, Revit Structures and BIM 360 are also required.

Design tasks include Civil Engineering Design and Modelling and includes the following.

• Site earthworks modelling for property developments, mining and infrastructure
• Utilities modelling (sewer, water, stormwater) – Bulk services and site services
• Major and minor road corridor modelling, including intersections, roundabouts and interchanges (using corridor modelling techniques and NOT site modelling or feature line modelling techniques)
• Custom sub-assembly development for Civil 3D using subassembly composer
• Multi-disciplinary model federation using BIM360 and Navisworks, with clash detection and resolution
• Guide, mentor and train digital engineering team members
• Manage a team of BIM Modellers including model and drawing quality control and ensuring that the team meets project deliverables
• 3D Visualisation of engineering designs (roads, civil structures, infrastructure) using Infraworks 2021+ connected to Civil 3D data sources
• Produce and guide team on 2D CAD output to local, provincial and national authority standards (CoJ, CoT, GDRT, SANRAL, etc)
• Produce and guide team on 3D BIM output to ISO19650 and/or localized international standards including British standards for rail and highways
• Development and maintenance of Civil 3D and Bentley Openroads standards across a distributed design team, including custom sub-assembly creation using Sub-assembly Composer
• Project management and interfacing with other engineering disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects
• Provide technical input from initial assessment through technical and economic feasibility to design development and construction implementation to project close out
• Carry out investigations, surveys, design, engineering calculations and preparation of working drawings and estimates for highways projects.
• Review overall project design and suggest technical and design improvements
• Assist with the preparation of cost estimates for working hours on project design
• Keep up to date with industry advances, and be aware of policy and technical developments in this discipline
• Review technical submissions, assessing technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies to reduce risk exposure in project
• Assist with and/or conduct any other necessary aspects of a project that fall within the discipline of the role.
• Monitoring project construction and acceptance including site visits and commissioning supervision; and
• Detail oriented with strong skills in Infrastructure analysis
• Ability to work in a team environment and must have excellent verbal and written skills
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers including reviewing, checking and approving work output of junior engineers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• BSc Civil Eng , B Eng, or BTech in Civil Engineering
• 3 to 5 years relevant experience in the design of civil services infrastructure
• PrEng or PrTech - ECSA Professional Engineer candidate preferred
• Highly competent with civil engineering design using both AutoDesk Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads, as well as high end CAD production in both to local, provincial, national as well as international standards (UK).

KEY ROLE:

• To provide a planning/scheduling service (in accordance with contract execution procedures) to both project and corporate management for home office and external (i.e. field) activities.
• Allocated projects are provided with the necessary set of planning documents appropriate for the size and phase of the project, including schedules/program, planning and progress procedure, Schedule Basis Memorandum etc. Documents are consistent in format and appearance.
• For allocated projects, planning documents comply with the contract requirements, and corporate or project specific procedures.
• For allocated projects, planning and progress monitoring tools are in place and updated in accordance with the project cut off and reporting requirements.
• For allocated projects, all planning reports and deliverables are accurate and issued on time. Where necessary these are accompanied by a narrative to explain changes and movement within the program. Progress measurement is traceable between the prepress measurement system and schedule/programme.
• For allocated projects, the current forecast of total key quantities is maintained. Key planning and duration statistics of the project has been populated into the Project Statistics Database on an ongoing basis, both budget/original plan and actual.
• Claims for extension of time are developed using detailed analysis of available data and are accompanied by schedules/programmes that definitively prove valid claims to extension of time in accordance with the contractual framework of the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understand all relevant documentation pertaining to the project including scope of services, conditions of contract, project execution plan, project schedule, etc.
• Work within standard project planning / scheduling procedures. Ensure that these procedures comply with contractual reporting requirements and, if not, modify accordingly
• Prepare activity plans to accomplish all work required by the procedures
• Liaise with client project control personnel as necessary
• Prepare and issue of overall project schedule, project network, manpower projection plan, critical equipment lists / schedules, progress 's' curves and tabulations, man-hour / manpower histograms, short term look ahead schedules and, monthly progress report including narrative
• Ensure that all involved parties participate in preparation of items described in item 5 and that they agree to their respective elements and approve documents where necessary
• Produce current physical progress reports and final job statistics
• Prepare and issue project action reports (monthly) to Project Manager
• Maintain accurate schedule and control curves in an updated condition and prepare forecasts of trends
• Act as a sponsor to trainees when nominated, regularly review their progress, make periodic reports and perform any other functions as directed by

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• National Diploma in Engineering, Building Science or equivalent. BSc Engineering degree highly advantageous
• Minimum 7 – 10 years’ experience construction project planning
• Professionally registered with PMP or SACPCMP
• Proficient user of MS Excel, MS Access, and MS Word, MS Projects and Primavera software.
