    Senior Lecturer- Centre for Human Rights - Faculty of Law

    Responsibilities
    The responsibilities of the incumbent will include:

    • Coordinating and teaching on the Master’s in International Trade and Investment Law in Africa, but may also be required to present other modules offered, in order to meet the needs of the Centre for Human Rights, and the Faculty of Law, as required, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
    • Conducting academic and scholarly research;
    • Supervising master’s and doctoral students;
    • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • Performing academic administration and management;
    • Managing the International Development Law Unit within the Centre for Human Rights;
    • Supporting the Business and Human Rights Unit of the Centre or Human Rights; and
    • Performing other duties as delegated by the Director of the Centre for Human Rights.

    Minimum Requirements

    • An appropriate LLD degree;
    • At least 5 years’ tertiary teaching experience;
    • At least 8 publications in accredited journals, of which 3 should have been published in the last 3 years;
    • Evidence of community engagement linked to research or teaching will be a recommendation;
    • Evidence of successful supervision of at least 2 research master’s candidates or 4 coursework master's mini dissertations; and
    • Proven record of academic administration and academic citizenship, such as participation in departmental or faculty committees, and journal review and editing will be a strong recommendation.

    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor: Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering

    Responsibilities
    It will be expected of the successful candidates to:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department;
    • Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and PhD students;
    • Conduct research as a member of a research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;
    • Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant research group;
    • Expand existing research programmes;
    • Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

    Minimum Requirements
    Lecturer

    • A BEng degree in mechanical engineering from a University of which the undergraduate programme is recognized by the Washington Accord or is recognized by ECSA to be substantial equivalent;
    • A Master’s degree in mechanical engineering that follows on the previous qualification (described in the previous point);
    • The Master’s degree and publications should be to aligned to one of the research foci in the Department.

    Senior Lecturer

    • Same as for Lecturer, plus;
    • A PhD degree in Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
    • Expertise and research experience in one or more of the specialist areas of the research groups in the Department;
    • A proven research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals. At least two years tertiary education experience or 2 years related industry experience;
    • A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience, and supervision of Masters students.

    Associate Professor

    • Same as for Senior Lecturer, plus;
    • At least six years’ experience at a tertiary academic institution or industry related experience;
    • A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, including supervision of Masters and/or Doctoral students;
    • A well-establish and nationally recognised research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals.

    Competencies (skills And Knowledge)

    • Advanced instrumentation, testing, data processing and analysis for field testing.
    • Measurement using advanced sensors such as Lidar, Radar, vision, image correlation etc.
    • Good computer skills (e.g. Matlab, C++, simulation)
    • Electronics interest and background in control, measurement and actuation (mechatronics)
    • Embedded controller programming (e.g. C++, Linux etc.)

    Clinical Assistant (Reproduction) - Department of Production Animal Studies

    Responsibilities
    The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

    • Registering for and pursuing a postgraduate degree in MMedVet (Gyn) with the view to complete the specialist training in reproduction of domestic animals and to obtain the degree within the prescribed time;
    • Actively participating in the clinical/experiential training of veterinary and veterinary nursing students while rendering services in the clinics of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, on farms and in satellite clinics;
    • Participating in providing a 24-hour clinical service and in community engagement activities, including disadvantaged communities, as delegated by the Head of Department;
    • Participate in Departmental research and publications;
    • Performing departmental administrative duties as delegated by the Section head/Head of Department.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A BVSc/BVMCh degree or an appropriate equivalent veterinary qualification;
    • Registration as a veterinarian with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).

    Any one of the following:

    • Minimum of two years’ clinical experience as a registered and practicing veterinarian for candidates who graduated before introduction of Compulsory Community service year, or
    • Evidence (provide verifiable case logs) of experience in handling an appreciable number of reproduction cases as a veterinarian whilst serving under the Compulsory Community service year and a minimum of one years’ clinical experience as a registered and practicing veterinarian; or
    • Training of at least one year in the specific field (reproduction) as an intern at a recognised training facility
    • Compliance with entry requirements for a Masters’ programme with a commitment to enrol for an MMedVet(Gyn) degree and to complete within prescribed time frame;

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines .

    Responsibilities

    • Provide a complete administrative and secretarial support to the Head of Clinical Unit and academic staff;
