    Principal Chemist

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Improve and optimise analytical processes for incoming materials and outgoing products, including new strategic business processes. Ensure that there’s efficient, safe, and high-quality analysis, while staying updated on technological advancements in the field.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • Evaluate and optimise analytical processes involved in analysis of incoming material and outgoing products inclusive of new strategic process.
    • Able to travel locally or internationally on assigned timelines to set-up laboratory processes as part of supporting strategic direction.   
    • Implement improvements to enhance efficiency, yield, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Work closely with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
    • Collaborate with junior miners and sample aggregators to support new strategic business.
    • Ensure that all processes comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
    • Analyse data generated from chemical tests and experiments.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports on findings, trends, and process improvements.
    • Implement corrective actions to resolve problems and prevent recurrence.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
    • Evaluate and implement cost-effective solutions in analytical section.
    • Implement the setting up of laboratories, inclusive of commissioning and validating the laboratories.
    • Formulating and Management of budgets and equipment procurement.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Must have completed a master's degree in chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
    • A PHD qualification in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry would be an advantage.
    • A Leadership or Executive Development certification would serve as add value.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role would be advantageous.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer proficiency in the following applications - SAP, MS Office, MINITAB (or any other statical software package) and LIMS.
    • Analytical skills - proficient in using various analytical techniques for chemical analysis and quality control.
    • Problem solving skills - ability to identify and address issues in analytical chemical processes, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective solutions.
    • Leadership skills - strong leadership qualities to self-manage and motivate a team of Laboratory associates during change management.
    • Collaboration - ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including metallurgy, engineering, production, and regulatory bodies.
    • Skilled in planning, organising, and managing projects related to process optimisation, research, and development.
    • Good exposure in project management and purchasing laboratory equipment.

    Senior Clerk: Fabrication (Metal Management)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Gather, collect and capture data upon which the metal balances are formulated in real time, in order to keep an accurate check on the metals as they move through various processes.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • Accurately capture all metal accounting information onto the SAP system and identify differences that may occur, alerting process leaders where necessary.
    • Capture the amounts of physical stock within the area, ensuring that levels are accurate and check systems with the production teams for differences.
    • Compile and produce daily reports from SAP, showing any differences or variances to finalise the sections performance report.
    • Receive metal  from upstream and downstream, recording all metal movements and interact with the production staff to follow metal movement.
    • Continuously monitor differences in metal quantities and discriminate where there are problems that should be alerted to team leaders.
    • Assist other metal accounting clerks with queries or problems to add input or offer solutions.
    • Move around between the various processes in order to track metals effectively.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • 2 Years experience in refinery / Fabrication of previous metals.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer literacy - SAP and MS office (excel).
    • Honesty and integrity.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Administration skills - Able to effectively manage paperwork for metal accounting.
    • Good communication skills - Able to communicate technical data with all people.

    Coins and Minted Bar Senior Operator

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Ensuring that products produced meet the required standards and quality. Completed batches of coins are to be packed in accordance with the SOP requirements. 

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • General housekeeping.
    • The following are duties involved during the production of the 22ct gold:
      • Weighing of coin (complete a batch of coins 5500 per 8-hour shift).
      • Grinding of coins (complete a batch of coins 5500 per 8-hour shift) (Grinding reject rate below 2% and flat reject rate below 2%).
      • Weighing and grinding coins by the robot (complete weighing a batch in 8-hour shift and grind all coins from a weight of 350mg to 200mg).
      • Rolling of strip by the Farmor roller (Over and under reject rate below 5%).
      • Casting of strip by the Rautomead (2 X batches per shift).
      • Punching of strip by the Caxton press (Damage coin reject rate below 1%).
      • Granulating 22CT at HF1/2 furnaces (up to two bathes of 1500KG in an 8-hour shift).
    • The following are duties involved during the production of 24ct minted bars:
      • Rolling at the Farmor Fine roller.
      • Casting strip at the Bartencello.
      • Polishing at the TT90/TT140 and LG 50.
      • Minting.
    • Packing of minted bars.
    • Balancing of completed batches of coins (completing of all log sheets where required).
    • Liaising with the Fabrication (Coins) Supervisor prior to depleting consumables.
    • Perform a assistant supervisory role with the Fabrication (Coins) Supervisor.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in similar role

     SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer proficiency (Emails, Microsoft Excel/Word, etc.).
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • The ability to work well within a teamwork.
    • Planning and organising skills.
    • Communication skills.

    Metallurgical Clerk

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    Accurately reflect the metal flow through every Smelter production activity on the business management system (SAP) through data capturing.

     SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • Data validation of materials produced.
    • Daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly stock verification.
    • ITM sampling management.
    • Validate physical stock equals SAP inventory.
    • Ensure that material is correctly labelled.
    • Verify and audit check-weighing of scales.
    • Daily review of assays to manage out-of-tolerance outcomes in metal balance.
    • Ensure that all consumed batches are accounted for in SAP.
    • Ensure that all products in a process are accounted for before closing month-end reports.
    • Ensure that SAP information for metal is transparent and auditable.
    • Daily checks of process order balancing and smelter metal balance.
    • Assists in the management and maintenance of the metal balances for the smelter, and provide prompt feedback for any variance and deviations that are encountered (assays / dry weights / weight discrepancies).
    • Capturing of production log-sheet and allocation of batch numbers for items produced (ITMs).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • National Diploma in Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering will be an added advantage.
    • Must have at least 1-2 years’ experience within a Smelter operations environment or similar.

     SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer software: Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel); SAP, Isometrix, QLIKVIEW.
    • Communication - Ability to convey information.
    • Honesty - An acute sense of honesty and moral conduct.
    • Integrity - High personal standards of integrity in all situations and maintain confidentiality on sensitive data.
    • People networking skills able to build meaningful relationships within the departments.
