    Team Leader

    The Team Lead Role

    The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, Aids-free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) programme provides a comprehensive package of core interventions to address key factors that make adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.

    The Team Leader position will support and deliver on NACOSA’s USAID funded Community-based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response in SA Programme. This HIV and GBV Prevention Programme focuses on delivering both evidence-based group interventions to adolescent girls and young women and adolescent boys and young men (aged 15-19 and 20-49 years). It further focuses on secondary interventions services to survivors of sexual violence (females aged 15-24 years).

    Three Team Leads will support the implementation of the NO Means No intervention Programme in two (Sub District A and D) of the seven Health Sub-Districts of the City of Johannesburg.

    NACOSA is looking for experienced Team Leads to deliver on the following key performance areas:

    • Demand creation, recruitment and enrolment of eligible beneficiaries: Support the Program Coordinator to lead the team to implement and execute targeted demand creations, mobilization, recruitment and enrolment activities.
    • Facilitation of DREAMS Group Based Interventions: Facilitate Evidence based interventions to relevant target populations. In addition, support and assist coordination logistics for the smooth implementation of the GBI’s by the sub-district team.
    • Networking, Linkages and Referral: Support the Program Coordinator in Safe Space and stakeholder/partner mapping, maintenance of a database of stakeholders and their services/focus areas (DREAMS and non-DREAMS partners), support successful referrals and bi-directional linkages of DREAMS primary and secondary interventions.
    • Monitoring and Reporting: Perform 1st line data completeness checks and submit data on behalf of the team; assist Program Coordinator to collect team output data for the compilation of reports.
    • HR and Administration: Support Team Planning and assist to submit individual team member plans to the Program Coordinator on a weekly basis; submit requests for procurement and logistics on behalf of the team; record and track stock/equipment issued to the team. 

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 
    • Post matric qualification advantangeous.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in leading direct implementation teams working in the HIV prevention field in a target driven programme. Related work experience in the health and social development sectors, and preferably in the field of AGYW and/or survivors of sexual violence advantageous.
    • Experience in direct implementation planning, logistical support and basic data collection/completeness checks is important.
    • Well established community/stakeholder relationship building track record/ability to network and navigate communities.
    • Problem solving skills and ability to think on their feet.
    • Excellent communications skills in English, including the ability to guide implementers on implementation.
    • Ability to work well in a team environment, person centered; possess leadership skills and qualities and be proactive.
    • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience of web-based data systems
    • Knowledge about: HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health; HIV Testing Services; GBV programming; evidence-informed and rights-based programming for survivors of GBV, particularly for adolescent girls and young women.
    • Driver’s license – Non-negotiable requirement.

    Enrolled Nurse ( Staff Nurse)

    Description

    NACOSA is looking for suitably qualified Enrolled Nurses within the Moretele sub-district (North West) to support the implementation of a youth health programme called Imagine: Social Outcomes Based Contract. Imagine is focused on improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes amongst Adolescent Girls and Young Women in 6 selected Moretele High Schools over a 2.5-year period.

    This is a roving position and will be working in 6 schools based in Moretele sub District.

    • Facilitate ongoing medical education and advocacy talks on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) with learners at each school, aspiring towards achieving the maximum information coverage and holistic SRH understanding in the learner population.
    • Facilitate medical education and advocacy talks on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in advocacy workshops with parents at each school, aspiring towards maximum information coverage and acceptance and understanding of the Imagine Programme.
    • Provide scientifically accurate information on sexual and reproductive health products and services & explain the process of accessing those products and services in a simple way.  
    • Provide detailed education on sexual reproductive health services to clients. Including the step by step processes involved in prevention, treatment and management according to need.
    • Provide Family Planning Advocacy and information on different contraceptive products.
    • Become a consistent source of trusted medical information and help in the school community
    • Provide Assisted HIV Self Screening services and or HIV RDTS services to learners as per DoH Guidelines and facilitate the process of them giving feedback of their experiences using the Imagine data collection system.
    • Provide Blood Glucose Testing services to learners as per DoH Guidelines and gather feedback from their experiences of using the Imagine data collection system.
    • Provide Pregnancy Testing services to learners as per DoH Guidelines and gather feedback from their experiences of using the Imagine data collection system.
    • Provide General Health services and support to learners within scope of practice.
    • Provide support to Professional Nurses in the provision of PrEP, ART, Contraceptive and Antenatal Care including client referral and case management.

    Requirements

    • Nursing diploma and current registration with SANC
    • Certification/experience in sexual and reproductive health (particularly contraception and STI management); and HIV prevention and management
    • Knowledge of national, provincial and district health structures
    • A minimum of 2 years community nursing experience
    • Experience and trained on Sexual Reproductive Health.
    • Experience working in a donor-funded organisation/NGO or project-based environment and desirable to have experience working with schools
    • Pro-active, able to exercise discretion and independent decision-making
    • Able to prioritize own workload and work towards deadlines
    • Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Able to speak English and any other African languages

    District Officer

    Description

    NACOSA is looking for a suitably qualified candidate for the position of District Officer to support the implementation and coordination of the Community Responses and Systems (CSS) to strengthen the optimal functionality of community-led multi-stakeholder leadership and accountability mechanisms thus improve access to and quality of HIV, TB and STI prevention and treatment and services for PLHIV and Key and Vulnerable Populations.

    Born out of a movement to draft the first national strategic plan for AIDS, NACOSA has played an important role in mobilising an effective, multi-sectoral response to HIV, AIDS and TB – South Africa’s main public health challenges. NACOSA is now a leading community service organisation, working collectively to build strong, equal and healthy communities free from the burden of HIV, AIDS, TB and GBV. We do this by strengthening community systems, mobilising and managing resources, facilitating networking and collaborations, providing and enabling access to services and advocating, learning and sharing collectively. NACOSA works at all levels – from international agencies, the corporate sector, research institutions and government, right though to local services and small, community groups.

    The duties and responsibilities of the District Officer will include but not limited to:

    • Coordinates and supports the overall CSS programme activities.
    • Network with various stakeholders and form relationships at local level in support of strengthening the response to HIV, TB and STIs.
    • Conduct local level profiling and mapping to feed into district database - role-players in the specific priority districts. 
    • Facilitate community dialogues between civil society, government and other role-players and feedback taken to local level. 
    • Support coordination of civil society structures at district and local levels. 
    • Supports the capacity building activities, ensuring provision of support for CSS mentored organisations.
    • Report on all district and sub-district activities including capacity building, networking and community dialogues.
    • Checking progress on a regular basis – link with relevant specialist to measure outcomes.
    • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders and ensure that activity reports and critical issues are tabled timeously during quarterly meetings and other networking opportunities
    • Network with, and build strategic alliances and relationships with key stakeholders and organisations working in complimentary fields.

    Requirements

    Required qualifications, skills and experience

    • Degree in Social Science/Public Health or related discipline.
    • At least 3 years’ experience at management of programmes or projects
    • A thorough understanding of the HIV, TB and STIs in the context of Community Systems Strengthening,
    • Advanced Computer skills, specifically in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Good communication and inter-personal skills on all levels.
    • Proven ability to work as a team member within multi-disciplinary teams
    • Administrative competency and attention to detail
    • Facilitation and presentation Skills
    • Good time management skills
    • Valid unendorsed driver’s license and minimum 2 years driving experience. (non-negotiable)

    Community Facilitator

    Description

DREAMS layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.

    NACOSA is implementing the Stepping Stones intervention program under the DREAMS program. Stepping Stones instructors may undergo a two-week training in the Stepping Stones and LIVES protocol.

    NACOSA is looking for a suitable candidate within South Africa to deliver on the implementation of the DREAMS program focusing on the delivery of Stepping Stones group-based intervention.

    • Participate in 1-week training (full days, M-F) to learn the Stepping Stones curriculum and prevention intervention
    • Have knowledge of Recruitment strategies and be able to recruitment of participants, door to door and via networking at community level, etc.
    • Understand what demand creation is and be able to do demand creation activities
    • Reside in the Northern, Southern or Eastern sub-districts of Cape Town and willing to travel within sub-districts
    • Implementing the Stepping Stones curriculum with out of school girls and aged 15-19 years; 20 to 24 year old females and the partners of the aforementioned girls aged 20 to 49 years in their own communities and facilitate group training sessions
    • Be an ambassador for the DREAMS programme, NACOSA and woman and children’s rights
    • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive referral network of prevention and aftercare resources and providers i.e. socio-economic, medical, legal, etc.
    • Conduct and collect basic M&E data from participants
    • Liaise with local child safety, gender-based violence organizations, stakeholders, government sources, other DREAMS partners and schools to ensure active linkages and layering of services.

    Requirements

    • A Matric Certificate (preferred, but not required)
    • Currently trained in Stepping Stones evidence based intervention (Preferred)
    • Practical experience working with group-facilitation (advantageous)
    • Practical experience working within gender based violence programmes (advantageous)
    • Read, write, and speak in two official South African languages, of which one must be English
    • Good presentation, communication and inter-personal skills
    • Proven strong leadership and ambassadorial skills
    • The ability to think critically
    • A valid driver’s license (Advantageous)
    • Passionate about the rights of woman and children
    • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Demonstrate sensitivity, respect, honesty and maturity in interactions
