    Business Development Lead - Africa Environmental Planning and Advisory (EPA) Team

    Job Description

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Leadership:

    • Expanding business development and developing strategies for retaining clients.
    • Key client/account relationship management, lead out on marketing and business development activities, and development of proposals.
    • Identifying and researching opportunities that come up in new and existing markets.
    • Tender Go-No-Go decisions.
    • Technical and financial sign-off of proposal in accordance to Authority Matrix.
    • Manage and prioritize all EPA tender opportunities.
    • Update and maintain client databases.
    • Supporting consultants on strategic clients and opportunities.
    • Provide team guidance to the Africa EPA team. This includes the South Africa, Mozambique and Ghana EPA Teams.
    • Collaborate with other P&A team leads.
    • Contribute to and drive the annual business strategy for the Africa EPA team with the support of the EPA senior leadership team
    • Input into wider WSP business policies.
    • Assist with business administration and removal of roadblocks where needed.
    • Crisis control and management.
    • Drive and conduct recruitment as required by the team.
    • The role requires strong interpersonal skills and provision of mentorship and guidance to all team members.
    • Lead / prominent role in delivering local and international (Africa) projects.
    • Offer technical guidance and support on projects where required.
    • Maintain professional registration and technical capabilities.

    Qualifications

    • An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental discipline.

    Key Competencies:

    • 10+ years or more experience as an environmental specialist leading and delivering local (EIA) and international (Africa) ESIA and/or ESDD consulting assignments, with 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Demonstrable project experience across the following sectors: conventional and renewable power generation and transmission, ports and marine infrastructure, oil and gas, and industrial manufacturing facilities.
    • 3 to 5 years or more experience in business development and client relationship management in environmental consulting in Africa.
    • Experience in Sub Sahara Africa (outside of South Africa) and ability to travel.
    • Comfortable to engage in client-facing business development.

    Generic Skills:

    • EAPASA Registration.
    • Knowledgeable in a wide range of environmental and social sub-disciplines (i.e. air quality, ecological impact, occupational health and safety, resettlement planning, labour practices etc.)
    • Strong technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Significant commercial acumen.

    Strong preference will be given to:

    • Candidates with team management experience and a strong capability for this role.

    Electrical Engineer (Property and Building Services)

    Job Description

    This role can be based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.

    • Providing a consulting engineering service and the design of MV & LV, power and lighting, single line diagrams, reticulation, generators, UPS, fire detection and evacuation as well as Data, CCTV, access control, intruder and building management.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Preparing accurate and concise designs, design calculations, budgets, tender specification creation, performing project financial control and diligent construction monitoring and project management (electrical) throughout all stages of a project life cycle.
    • Collaborating and working with multi-disciplinary team of engineers on a project while taking an active part in the design process and co-ordination.
    • Completing all types of projects from inception to close out with limited input from management and/or other senior engineers.
    • Being able to focus on client care and professional team management including on-time delivery.
    • Marketing, including attendance at business related networking and client functions. Ensuring repeat work from clients and developing a client base.
    • Setting up client/consultant fee/contract agreements, calculating professional fees and the effective management of professional fees on all projects.
    • Managing internal office project finances regarding hourly forecasting, WIP and invoicing.

    • Minimum BSc Eng. or B. Tech in Electrical Engineering
    • Must be a Candidate engineer with ECSA. Pr Eng/Tech registration highly advantageous
    • At least 5 years consulting engineering experience within the Building Services Environment
    • SAQCC Registered for Design highly advantageous.
    • Revit Modelling Experience

    Key Competencies and Generic Skills:

    • Good to excellent communication skills (English) and including report writing abilities. Ability to have clear and accurate communication skills with internal and external professional teams and including clients via email, telecommunication, and face-to-face meetings.
    • Good knowledge of SANS10142-1&2, SANS10139 and SANS10114 among others.
    • Good knowledge of various building contracts applicable to the building services industry (i.e., JBCC, Fidic, NEC, Procsa, etc.).
    • Good knowledge of MV and LV reticulation designs.
    • Good knowledge of standby power systems including changeovers, synchronising, and calculating ratings thereof.
    • Good knowledge of Renewable energy installations.
    • Knowledge and experience with Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field, etc.) and CAD software.
    • Knowledge and experience with electrical software packages such as Relux and/ or Dialux, CBi and/ or Ecodial and/or Amtech.
    • Higher than average Microsoft Office package (excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.) skills.
    • Be able to work independently, take responsibility / ownership for their designs with little input, and follow up from senior management/engineers.
    • High-level quality to the attention to detail when performing design reviews, for sign-off, with internal working peers and BIM team.
    • Good with self and project time-management skills.
    • A good knowledge of the latest technologies within the building services industry (e.g., lighting, UPS etc.).
    • Self-motivated and ambitious. Ability to raise, suggest and drive to office/ internal efficiencies.
    • Able to offer creative solutions to client, architectural and/or interior design requirements.
    • Able to interface professionally across all levels of the professional team and with the client, think on their feet and remain calm when faced with a challenge/ confrontation.
    • Have a pro-active attitude.
    • Ability to offer input with multiple engineering disciplines in project meetings.
    • Good client marketing characteristics and including external project professional team members.
    • Must be a team player and be able to work independently on challenging projects that may have tight timelines.
    • Drivers licence and own mode of transport to travel to sites.

    Graduate Civil Engineer

    Job Description

    • WSP has a new opportunity for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Midrand. This is an entry level position in the consulting team and is regarded as a professional person in the delivery of tailings and geotechnical services, in line with the WSP suite of engineering products.

    Key duties and responsibilities will include:

    • This is the entry level in the consulting stream.
    • The employee has basic skills in core technical areas.
    • Works with specific and regular direction from intermediate and senior staff.
    • Makes decisions only in limited situations with direction from intermediate and senior staff.
    • Contributes to projects with a major focus on data collection and processing.
    • Work is reviewed by direct supervisor or project manager.
    • Providing tailings services and technical advice on moderate complex tailings issues to clients (internal) on projects within the mining industry.
    • Using advanced techniques, modifications and extension of theories, practices to synthesise and analyse data for decision making / recommendations.
    • Analysing tailings and geotechnical reporting for projects which may include the design and inspection of mine waste storage facilities, the construction of tailings deposits, the operation and management of deposits, properties and behaviour of tailings, closure and deposits stability and seeping analysis and water storage dams and earthworks.
    • Understands and follows company health & safety policy and procedures.

    • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects
    • Additional software skills which is preferred include slope stability analysis, seepage analysis and modelling software. Proficiency in other engineering related software will be considered beneficial.
