    Scaler - Grain Field Chickens, Abattoir

    Job Description

    • Responsible for ensuring GFC products are weighed using a digital scale in accordance with laid down standard operating procedures, supporting acceptable standards of service delivery.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 or NQF Level Equivalent.
    • At least 2 years’ experience as a Scaler in a Poultry Abattoir.
    • Basic Meat/ Food Safety, Hygiene and Health & Safety knowledge.
    • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic surfaces.
    • Working consistently in cold room temperatures.
    • Physical ability to lift bags or cartons onto/ from the scale or conveyor assembly.
    • May be exposed to noise levels of varying degrees.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure product weights are correct to keep within quality standards and limit unnecessary losses.

    • Receive product from packer and accurately weigh using the scale.
    • Send the product on in the production line after weighing.
    • Identify incorrectly packed or labelled products, ensuring weights, tares and labelling is 100% correct.
    • Continuously ensure client service to the next department in the production line to deliver quality products.
    • Ensures the neatness / housekeeping of your area of responsibility.
    • To always comply with all Meat/ Food Safety, Hygiene and Health & Safety requirements at all times.
    • To complete all compulsory training interventions allocated by direct manager.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Optimal utilizing On-Key maintenance program to ensure that the machinery used in processing plants is in the best possible working order by undertaking a range of maintenance inspections and scheduling maintenance processes
    • Plan and organize preventative maintenance processes such as condition monitoring or plant start-up or inspection as well as preventative maintenance processes like lubrication, sensory inspections and periodic component replacement
    • Analyze the risk of process failure, ensure that correct spare parts are stocked, undertake performance measurement, and ensure that maintenance costs are kept as low as possible
