    Trainee Buyer (Foods)

    Job Objectives    
    Once appointed as Buyer (Foods) upon successful completion of the Trainee Buyer Programthe main purpose of the position as a Buyer within the Non-RSA Buying team, the Buyer will be performing sourcing and buying responsibilities for selected categories. The Buyer will work closely with the Buying, Marketing and Operations teams on a day to day basis to embed customer understanding, ensure consistent execution and monitor performance. The role is fast-paced and requires a high-energy self-starter with the ability to work with precision under pressure. Also have a demonstrated aptitude for formulating category strategies, conduct supplier negotiations, utilise customer insights and have a strong execution track record as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with people at all levels in an organisation.

    To buy effectively so as to ensure sales growth and increase in gross margins, in addition to necessary advertising spend recoupment. Key outputs include: 

    • Product range and line determination 
    • Product pricing administration 
    • Advertising and promotions management 
    • Buyer assistant management 
    • Stock level issues resolution in the stores and the distribution centres 
    • Merchandising layout determination 
    • Transfer of skills to, or coaching of, trainee buyers 

    Qualifications    

    • Advantageous 
    •  Graduate qualification  
    •  BCom/ Degree / Diploma in Business Administration (sales, marketing or a related field)

    Experience    

    •  1 - 2 years experience in buying within a food retail environment advantageous 
    •  Retail experience, Procurement & Replenishment experience especially FMCG

    Knowledge and Skills    

    • Advantageous Data analysis and interpretation 
    •  Knowledge of category customer behaviour 
    •  Understanding of local competitor and customer 
    •  Beneficial 
    •  Category management application & working knowledge of Buying systems
