Systems Engineering Team Lead - Johannesburg at AVI Limited

Key Performance Areas:

• Manages performance and sets direction and priorities of the Systems Engineers assigning clear accountabilities and performance expectations; reviews performance and addresses underperformance when needed as they relate to both daily operations as well as projects. Leads the staff appraisal process with direct accountability to the Technical Manager. 
• Management and oversight of the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of all systems infrastructure components such as storage, servers, virtualisation platform, datacentre infrastructure, business applications, software automation and monitoring and supporting software systems. 
• Manage the performance of close monitoring of the systems infrastructure and react quickly to co-ordinate activities for the resolution of complex problems as they occur. 
• Manage the scheduling and prioritisation of all project-related work in line with the ITSS Infrastructure annual objectives working closely with the Project Management Office 

Further responsibilities include:

• Analysing the performance, capacity and trends of the group’s systems infrastructure and escalating concerns to the Technical Manager
• Manage the implementation changes and upgrades where appropriate in line with the change management procedures in place
• Facilitate the diagnosis and resolution of complex problems relating to systems infrastructure and assists where required
• Manage the maintenance of the systems infrastructure lifecycles across all hardware and software
• Manage the administration and maintenance of the monitoring and management platforms
• Manage the documentation of systems infrastructure which includes but is not limited to:
  • Technical Processes, Procedures, Standards and Schedules (e.g. MS Patching)
  • Technical Architecture Diagrams (e.g. VMWare Platform)
  • Licensing (e.g. Microsoft, VMWare)
• Provide input into systems engineering strategy and architecture
• Ensure that the System Engineering calls are resolved within SLA and where additional assistance is required, that the relevant teams including 3rd parties, are enrolled to assist and drive resolution
• Maintains contact with the customer interfaces throughout the process until resolution
• Play a key role in mentoring and upskilling the systems engineering team members as well as second line support team members to ensure they understand the systems infrastructure landscape and assist in identifying proactive processes to monitor and support it 

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:                                                                   

• 5 years management of a technical team
• 5 years Systems Engineering Strategy and Architecture
• 5 years Microsoft systems administration including Windows Server, Active Directory and MS Exchange
• 5 years Enterprise Storage Administration (TinTri, Dell, HP)
• 5 years Enterprise Server Administration (Dell and HP)
• 5 years Virtualisation Administration (VMWare)
• 3 years SCCM, SCOM, SCSM and EMS administration 

Qualifications:

• Matric/Grade 12
• Tertiary Degree or Diploma in IT and/or Engineering
• ITIL – Foundation
• MDP (Management Development Programme) would be highly advantageous 

Essential Certification:

• Valid MCSE
• Valid VCP6/VCP7-DCV
• Valid CCENT 

Important and nice-to-have certifications

• SMDP (Senior Management Development Programme)
• Valid CCNA
• Valid VCPA6-DCV Deploy
• Valid RHCE
• TinTri-U completion
• Dell SC storage certification
• Valid Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Administering and Deploying System Center 2012/2016 Configuration Manager
• Valid Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Administering and Deploying System Center 2012/2016 Operations Manager
• Valid Microsoft Enterprise Management Systems (RMS, ATA, MDM) certification 

Additional Requirements:

• Management and resolution of complex systems engineering implementations and outages
• Identifying, owning and management of Management and Monitoring tools
• Operation of management and monitoring tools to identify and provide solutions to performance and capacity
• Provide expert input to systems engineering architecture and projects to ensure that best practice is applied
• Provide input into and guides the establishment and implementation of processes, procedures, standards and guidelines
• Provide ongoing cross-skilling and training 

Good understanding of:

• LAN and WAN and IP Telephony technologies
• Wi-Fi technologies and infrastructure
• Protocols such as HTTP, DNS, SMTP, SNMP and other web-based protocols
• Networking principles – TCP, UDP, FTP, firewall technologies (e.g. Fortigate)
• Basic Linux Administration
