Superintendent: Sanitation - Engineering Service Department - Meyerton at Midvaal Local Municipality

Job description

• Management, control and planning of all sanitation section activities by:
• Issuing work orders
• Organising subordinates to coordinate and control work, teams 
• Monitoring productivity
• Planning and project management of the sanitation section
• Procurement and stock control of all materials and equipment used, including vehicles
• Guides, advise and assist subordinates through communication and on the job training to ensure an effective work force
• Handling all complaints and attends meeting related to sanitation section
• Responsible for all problems and deadlines relating to queries and goals
• Work with contractors to ensure that work is done effectively and to high standards
• Responsible for all health and safety matters in the section and perform investigations
• General administrative duties pertaining to the position
• Responsible for discipline and management of grievances according to the prescribed disciplinary code and council policies
• Budget management for effective operations and maintenance of sanitation section
• Perform any other related Ad Hoc tasks and duties as requested or required by management from time to time

Minimum requirements

• Grade 12
• National Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Qualified Plumber/Millwright (Red Seal) will be an added advantage
• B-degree in Civil Engineering will be an added advantage
• Experience in sewer infrastructure maintenance and construction
• Valid code 08 or 10 Driver’s license 
• Experience in the management of different sub section
• Excellent Communication, Interpersonal skills 
• Computer Literacy (MSWord, Excel & PowerPoint)
• Competent in interpretation, implementation and enforcement of relevant legislation and applicable policies
• Skills & Competencies associated with vocation: adaptability, communication, assertiveness/leadership skills, conflict & stress management, negotiation skills & problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, attention to detail
• Project management and financial management skills & experience
• Hard working, self-motivated and self-disciplined person
• 3 - 5 years’ relevant experience in sanitation within Local Government Authority
